Hi there, im Gillian 29 from Edinburgh. David and i are hoping to get married June 17th 2011. We were going to get married next year but we want to make sure our little daughter Hannah is up and walking so she can be our little flower girl. How soon is too soon to start planning. Also are there many costs involved with church weddings. I am worrying about going to try on dresses as im currently size 20 and thatspretty much what i have been for ages and although im planning on losing weight i want to try on dresses that i can actually breathe in.

Hi Gillian and welcome to hitched!

    I'm also from Edinburgh.

Where are you planning on having your reception?

We're having our ceremony and reception at The Vu in Bathgate in 2011.

I'm also on a mission to lose some weight before our wedding, I've went from a 22 to an 18 in the past 4 months but hope to be a size 14 by the wedding, I'm not planning to try any dresses on til the start of 2011.

Apart from having our venue booked all we have done so far is pay a deposit on a cake.

Can't help you with charges for a church wedding but our civil ceremony is going to be roughly £300 for the registrar and £1000 to have it in the venue.

Hi Gillian ? Welcome to hitched!

Im having a chirch wedding, at our church its about £250 for the church, then about £100 for all the charges such as reading of banns, marriage certificate etc, then £80.00 for organist, £80.00 for bell ringers, flowers costs need to be added, about £100, and then the church ask for a donation - which apparently they recommend you donate the same amount as the hire of the church ? Not sure we will be able to do that much but will try!

Also bear in mind if you are having a videographer some churchs will charge more to allow you to video the service!

It may be different in your area, im in the south of england but I hope that gives you an idea!

    Hi, welcome to Hitched!

I actually got married a couple of weeks ago so will try to help where I can! Our wedding was at a gorgeous old house, which is now used as a hotel, so I'm afraid I can't really help you much with the church wedding queries. You've still got a while before you probably need to start looking for dresses so if you are planning on losing some weight first then I think you have plenty of time before you need to start shopping. Good luck with it all!

    Hi welcome to hitched!!

If you are interested in a civil cermony I would suggest contacting your registry office they can send you a small booklet of local venues licenced to hold weddings which should give you a starting point!!

    Good luck!!

Hi & welcome to Hitched. You'll get loads of help on here from the girls (and guys).

Sorry but can't help with costs for a church wedding - I'm having a civil ceremony.

I say its never too soon to start planning. Get your main things sorted out like budget and venue and you can work from there.

    Hi and welcome,

I hope you don't mind but I thought I'd use your thread to re-introduce myself to hitched as it has been ages since I've been on.

My name is Susan, I'm not married (yet!) but have been involved in quite a lot of weddings theough my stationery business. I'm happy to help anyone in any way I can (and I don't just mean with stationery questions) I have opinions on lots of things and generally just love to chat when I get a spare five minutes.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

    Susan x.

    Hi, welcome

I'm getting married in a church too and it's £450 all in. If wewanted specific flowers then it would have been an extra £100 but the church is a bit small so we've left it. Not sure how much help that is to you as I'm south of the border too.
