High street bridesmaid dresses - new lines?

victoriamarie, 17 August, 2010 at 20:06 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi I am planning to buy my 4 bridesmaid dresses from the high street as one of my bridesmaids lives 100's of miles away and also because I am trying to stick to a budget. I have seen lots of gorgeous dresses in BHS, Debenhams, Coast etc. but cannot find the dusky pink shade I am after. M&S website had some but have recently been discontinued Smiley sad

How often do these stores get new lines in?

I am also looking in these shops for bridesmaids outfits and going shopping on Saturday. My mum has a had a quick look in House of Fraser today and said they had more in store than online. Or its the other way around, I have seen a lovely dress on Monsoon but its not in any stores yet!

I bought both of my bridesmaid dresses from debenhams. We first saw them last summer but only bought them last month so I think they keep the collections for quite a while. If you find some more you like I'd check with the customer services to see how long they will be keeping them that way you will know to buy them straight away or if you can wait a bit.

Once the summer sales are out of the way they will start to re stock all the rails again. Have you phoned up customer service? I only ask as Coast stopped making the dress i wanted for my BMs managed to find a size 8 near where i lived but then needed a 12 as well. Phoned them up and within 30mins i had one being sent down from edinburgh.

    Hi there

I ended up getting my bridesmaid dresses from Jane Norman - they were white, strapless dresses with black bands at the top and bottom and net underskirts. I then bought burgundy satin sashes to replace the black ones that came with them so they tied in even more with our colour scheme. If you're looking for a specific colour and can't find it, you could consider something neutral and then using accessories (sashes, shoes, even flowers/fascinators) in the right colour.

It's definitely worth trying this kind of shop as they sometimes have things that would be perfect for bridesmaids - I've had so many compliments about the bridesmaid dresses, with people saying it was nice to see something a bit different. Also, it's cheaper to get normal dresses than the ones that are specifically sold as bridesmaid dresses.

We found lovely dresses in Jane Norman, Oasis, Wallis and Warehouse so I'd definitely recommend those - of course, Monsoon always have beautiful things but they can be so expensive.

    Good luck!

I rang BHS last week to see when the Autumn stock comes in and it's apparently the first week in September x

I'm also waiting for new lines to come in for my BMs. We went shopping the other week but everything was too summery for us!

Have noticed Debenhams slowly filling up with more wintry dresses and also ones in the colour I want (BLACK!) so hopefully more and more will be in soon. I know it's an odd thing to go by - but argos's new autumn/winter book is out this week, so I think all types of shops will be bringing in new ranges now.

I would say from now on the autumn winter stuff should be coming in! so keep an eye. and look on the shops websites as well. In case you can buy them online in advance, and then take them back again if you needed to! Smiley smile

Thanks girls hopefully I should see some new stock over the coming months.

Vintagebride that dress is lovely - right length and colour too, but am not sure if it is "bridesmaidy" enough. I might pop to the store and have a look at it though!

Just wondered if you found your BM dresses? I ended up buying proper BM dresses from Dessy, was worried that the dress I liked in Monsoon could be worn by a guest!

No not yet, budget wont stretch to "proper" bridesmaid dresses plus it's more practical for me to get them on high street due to one bridesmaid living 300+ miles away. Hope to find something by the end of the year, fingers crossed!

Victoriamarie - I just saw a dusky pink dress in Debut at Debenhams and remembered someone was looking for this colour and it was you! May be worth a look, it was £100.
