**Hoddy's wedding report**

Hoddy, 16 August, 2014 at 14:18 Posted on Planning 0 63

So it has been 16 days of married bliss and now it is time to give you my report!

How we met and proposal

I am lucky enough to have married my first love and I was his first too. When we met I had just turned 16 and he was nearly 19 playing a gig at a local charity festival thing. I instantly fell in love with him when we got chatting. I know it is a complete cliché to use the phrase 'love at first sight' but that really is how I felt about him.

We got together in September 2009, a month after we met. We moved into our first house in July 2012 with our two cats. We both bought cars, I went to uni, he is working up the career ladder in his current job. Everything just went so well and I still feel lucky every day.

OH proposed Christmas Day 2012. He had woken me up at 7am and I opened all my stocking presents from him (yes, we still do that!!) before he gave me a card. He was stood up in front of me and I insisted he sat down and didn’t have a clue why he was stood there like a lemon! I opened my card and it said ‘for my wonderful fiancée’ on the front of it. Me being me I instantly thought he must have just picked the first card up off the shelf the night before without bothering to read it. It wasn’t until he was down on one knee asking me to marry him that I realised. It was so romantic and not like him at all. I remember the squeal I gave him (before he got an answer) and just how many happy tears I cried that day. Saying this, I knew the proposal was coming at some point as we are rubbish at keeping things from each other and he let slip he wanted to marry me when he took me ring shopping in October 2012!!

Anyway, we got planning straight away in January 2013 and visited three venues before finding ‘the one’. The first wedding related item I bought was my shoes and I shortly after booked my photographer before having anything else sorted....

    Week before the wedding

As a lot of you know I had a lot of venue related stress which I really didn’t need that week and I think if it hadn’t have been for that I might have enjoyed the days building up to our wedding much more. I won’t go into any more detail about that as it would be too boring!

I turned 21 three days before the wedding but of course there wasn’t a lot of fuss as I was in total ‘wedding mode’. I didn’t have a lot of wedding related tasks to do as I made sure I was organised.

The morning of the day before the wedding we (me, my mum and my sister) went to get our nails and eyebrows done. It was my first time getting my nails done and it was really good and I was very impressed with the results. I also kissed my OH goodbye before having my nails done and we couldn't believe that the next time we would see each other would be our wedding day!

We then took my Mums 7 seater car to the venue with us filled with all the wedding bits. I met with my wedding coordinator and went through the lists of where everything was going, timings, the CD’s etc. It was so exciting. He then told me everything would be okay for me to set up the tables and sweet buffet – I was obviously ecstatic at this point that everything was going to go my way Smiley winking

We had a meal at the venue although I did find it very hard to eat and didn’t eat much at all. I also didn’t have anything alcoholic which I really thought I would! At about 7pm I was told it was time to set up. I was just jumping around with excitement and left to it with my Mum and sister to set everything up. Of course, they just watched. I had it in my head what my wedding would look like and that is exactly what I made happen.

I remember feeling like everything was a dream. It just wouldn’t sink in that I was getting married tomorrow!!! When everything was set up at about 11pm we went up to bed and just laid there for a while taking everything in. We had lovely views from our room which was very nice.

AAAAAAND the sun was still shining!

    The Wedding Day

Wow, it was actually here! Straight to the window to check for rain - nope, not a drop in sight! I was up and in the bath at 5am. I had bought myself a special bath bomb from Lush as I wanted a smell which would remind me of the day forever (bought another one when on honeymoon).

We went down for breakfast at about 7am but I couldn’t even stomach a cup of tea. It was the nerves more than anything. I had to go upstairs and leave my Mum and sister to eat as I couldn’t even look at food after a few minutes of being around it. While upstairs I had a minute to myself to look around the room at what was in front of me….our dresses, tiaras, shoes…it was all finally going to be used. I just couldn’t wait.

At 8am my other bridesmaid came along with a bottle of bubbly. Unfortunately I couldn’t even face drinking that! None of us could once it was poured. I was so glad when she arrived though as she really helped with keeping me calm. My hairdresser and makeup artist arrived at 8.30 and I had my hair done first. Almost forgot to put my ‘bride’ dressing gown on though!

The morning is a bit of a blur now. I just remember going from feeling sick to feeling excited. It was a whole range of emotions I have never felt before and cannot describe correctly now.

My photographer arrived just after 11 and it just made it all feel even more real. I thought to myself ‘wow, my wedding photos are being taken right now’….WOW! My ACTUAL wedding photos!!

Once hair and makeup was done I walked into the other room in the hotel to give myself a once over in the mirror and my sister followed. She asked me to turn around, which I did. And she just burst into tears….bless her. My sister is everything to me, we have been through so much together and the emotions were high for us both.

I gave my Mum and sister a card each which I had personalised which lead to a few more tears! My prediction on my sisters card was correct (I bet you cry first!). I then gave my bridesmaids their gifts which were a necklace each and for the youngest she got a ‘my day as a bridesmaid’ book and camera which she loved.

I heard that my fiancé was downstairs at about 1pm and I got brought up a wonderful card and gift which made me cry. The strangest thing being we had bought each other the exact same card!! I was wondering how he was feeling and my Mum had seen him and said he looks so nervous. I was glad he was feeling the same as me!

At about 1.45 I had my final call of the morning from my wedding coordinator which was to come downstairs as the registrar was ready for me. I could hardly walk! I was so shakey. I had to sit down while the registrar spoke to me and it felt like forever. I just wanted to get out and get married!

Then before I knew it my bridal entrance song was playing. I had ‘At Last’ by Etta James which fit perfectly and I felt every word as I walked down the aisle. All I could look at was my husband to be, standing there with tears in his eyes and the biggest smile I have ever seen on his face. It was magical...

A few more flashes before I continue!

I am desperately trying to keep this short and sweet so it isn't too boring!

    The Wedding Day continued…

...As I reached the end of the aisle I saw the tears in my fiances eyes and he whispered 'you look beautiful'. I could have wailed there and then!

I had a lot of people tell me I wouldn’t remember the ceremony due to the emotions involved. But they were all wrong, I remember every bit of my vows and although we were the most nervous about that part it turned out to be the best bit of the day! We wrote our own promises and there were a lot of teary eyes in the room including my father in law who I have never seen get emotional about anything! And then I was a bit naughty and kissed my husband before the registrar said we could which was a bit funny! Ooops.

We exited to Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere. We were married! Wow!

We then went and had our drinks which I was gasping for at this point and just downed in one – real classy! It had rained during the ceremony and surprisingly I just didn’t care. We went out for photos anyway.

The next bit was the speeches before the meal. They were short and sweet just how we wanted them. The meal was delicious and it was lovely to finally be able to eat! Everyone was getting into the swing of things and using their disposable cameras, and the children all loved their activity packs. Afterwards I introduced guests to the sweet table which again was a big hit and I saw lots of full bags of sweets.

A few more pictures for you all Smiley smile
