Hog Roast???

Lucy137, 23 November, 2009 at 20:20 Posted on Planning 0 12

Just looking at some catering options and wondered what everyone thinks.

There is a formal sit down meal option with lots of choice

or a hog roast with extras such as roasties, seasonal veg etc. The hog roast guy can also do canapes and starters.

We like the idea of a hog roast especially with it being winter, but just wanted some other opinions. Thanks in advance!

p.s. the hog roast is the (much) cheaper option!

I looked into this - still not decided. I would want a veggie option and sides to go with it. Also proper plates as i can't stand the idea of people having a napkin!

I think its a great idea, although I would also want proper plates. I'd be gutted if I spilt fat down a new dress I'd spent a fortune on to go to a wedding!

There would be plates and cutlery! and there would be side dishes as well so just like a proper meal really just a bit more fun and informal. no veggies so don't have to worry about that!

I think we will probably go for this but don't want people to think we're just doing it cos its cheaper???

We did this for ours - basically a hog with hot and cold buffet and it went down really well. As we had proper plates, cutlery (basically sit down meal, but people had to help themselves) it didnt seem cheap at all - go for it!

That sounds pretty much the same as our option, and like you say will just be like a sit down meal except people help themselves. Glad yours went down well. Im much more convinced now! Thanks!

Hog roast! Hog roast! i've never had one myself but seen them at the farmers market and they smell yummy!!!! its something a bit different and if it saves you some money all the better. To be honest i don't think your guests will think its a cheap option, they'll be too busy fighting over the crackling!!!! i just mentioned it to H2B and he asked if we could have one.....

Glad to hear so many positive thoughts!

We've been to quite a few weddings with 'posh' sit down meals which, fair enough, have been absolutely ovely, but you soon forget the food if you know what i mean.

we like the idea that this is a bit different, a talking point, and will probably be remembered! also it seems more like a proper hearty meal which is just what you need on a nice cold winters day!!
