Hog Roast

monkeypants12, 7 March, 2010 at 16:31 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the site, and planning a big wedding as I come from a big family. My H2B and my dad and brother really want to have a Hog Roast at the wedding, I've never been to many weddings so haven't seen one at a wedding before. How much do you think I should be paying for it and how well does it go down at weddings? Any help on the matter would be great!

    Welcome to the site!

we're planning on having a hog roast at our wedding too, hopefully with a hot buffet like roast potatoes/veg/salads etc. havent met with the caterer yet to discuss prices but we have been told by the venue that it will be the cheaper option compared to the wedding breakfast which starts from £35 per head!

i think it will go down really well, we love the idea of it being less formal than a sit down meal and more social. planning on a sit down starter first so that everyone gets a seat etc, then gets up for main.

how much did you want to spend? im sure the caterer could do something to suit your budget. our caterer can do a simple hog roast with buns, or with extras such as potatoes and salad, and can also do canapes, starters and desserts, all depending on how much you want to spend.

    hope that helps

Not 100% sure how much I want to spend, the caterers I got for a 3 course meal was at £40 a head. I'm having the wedding in a marquee in my parents back garden, so I'm allowed to bring other catering companies in, as mine does not do a hog roast. I've been looking online and for a hog, salads and roll is about £11.80 per a person, much cheaper than I thought it may be!

Now I just need to decided if I should have it as the main meal or not.

We went to a wedding at our local barn (lains barn) and they got caterers who did a hog roast - it was lush and really worked with the style of the venue! I would have thought its very economical with feeding a large number of guests and gets them all involved!!

Anyone here near oxfordshire - should check out Lain Barn - they are having a fair on 21st march run by Guides for Brides apparently
