Holiday destination suggestions

Ohwhatatuesday, 26 October, 2014 at 14:20 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

We're looking for a week away end of Jan/Feb, ideally somewhere hot, not sure on budget, does anyone have any location ideas for this time of year? We've been to Cuba and Mexico before and they're possibles but would like something different if possible.

Have you done anywhere that far for a week? I was think plus 10 hours might be stretching it a bit if we're only going for 7days - not sure how far Mauritius is - I'll google!

Ooh I didn't realise there were direct flights to Vietnam and Mauritius, maybe worth looking into then, thanks

Doh sorry totally missed the 'week' bit of that sentence.

In that case I would look into Africa (Egypt, Morocco, Zanzibar) & Middle East (Dubai, Oman, Abu Dhabi)

We've just come back from Egypt and that was amazing, think that's nice all year, although probably only about 20 degrees, same as tenerife, think you'll struggle to get too much warmer unless you travel a long way

I've recently booked Thailand for the end of March. Been before and absolutely loved it!

Its seriously cheap once you get out there too so even if you have to pay a bit for flights you won't pay much when out there and there's so much to do.

This time we're just going to Koh Samui and might travel to a couple other islands, I've been to Bangkok, Chang Mai and Phuket before so wanted somewhere I hadn't been.

Only thing I would say though is that the flights are fairly long (10-11hrs) so you'd want to make sure you had a full week there if you can only go for one... But I guess that applies to most hot places that time of year.

I've travelled 20 hours door to door for just under a week before.... But that was to see my brother and OH had run out of holiday at work so we didn't have a choice. All in all though it wasn't that bad.

Mauritius! We went there for honeymoon and loved it. It is quite far for a week though.

Egypt is also great and Jan/Feb is a good time of year to go, before it gets too hot.

I would thoroughly recommend Sri Lanka. Lovely people, food and reasonably priced once you are there. Provided you aren't morally opposed to going due to past government actions which I know some people are.

We recently went to Italy for a weekend. (for a wedding!) and it was amazing! We keep taking about where we would go when we go back! We did Pisa and Siena and git lots of trains! The trains are amazing and we plan to go back and train around the country!! Ha ha! (just realised this makes us sound like Sheldon from BBT, we would leave the stations though!!)

We're looking for a similar holiday in March, and I think we have narrowed down to Cape Verde, Egypt or Dubai.

I've never been so am really intrigued by Cape Verde, but haven't managed to convince mr ddpunk yet. He's meticulous about checking reviews on tripadvisor and will read every single one, focussing on the one negative comment out of 50 good ones, grr!

Egypt or Morocco. I hear the Canaries are hot all year, but know nothing about them.

Malaysia although it's quite far and I really struggled with jet lag for the first couple of days so if you're only going for a week it may be a bit much.

I've never been but I hear Cape Verde Islands are nice during the winter months and the flight is not too long (5 or 6 hours I think)

Apparently there is nothing to do on Cape Verde so depends on the sort of holiday you want. If you are happy lounging by the pool then it would probably be fantastic
