Holiday help Please - Sharm El Sheik/Turkey

cheekymonkey, 17 April, 2009 at 14:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

Hi

After a period of illness and a recent operation my husband has now suggested a one weel holiday (last minute) to help me recuperate!

We will go at the very end of April/early May and think either Turkey or Egypt (Sharm El Sheik) are good options due to flight length, good weather and the fact we can fly from south west airports.

I have been online all morning but can't help ut think that nothing beats recommendation as I have never been to either place before!

Needs/Wants are as follows:--

- Warm, not too far to fly and fly from Souh West - as I said above

- Beachfront property

- All inclusive incl buffet and some al a carte restaurants

- Pool and other activities

- 4* plus

- Quiet and chilled as opposed to city centre/young and lively or city centre etc. Literally happy to stay on site for 7 days and chill.

Can anyone recommend anywhere please??

Thanks in advance. Emma.

I've travelled widely in Turkey, but sadly 4* all inclusive has never been our thing. I'm not even sure Turkey is fully geared up to that sort of venue.

If you are prepared to slum it a bit (3* / B&B) I'm happy to help. ?

We went to Turkey last June. We loved it there, very relaxing!

We went to Olu Deniz and stayed at Hotel Turqoise which is a 3* hotel went B & B but I know they do all inclusive there.

Also went to Sharm but really didn't like it there at all.. hotel we stayed at was not all that nice. but that was just our experience. other people I've spoken to love it there.

    Hi Emma

We've just been to the Renaissance Golden View in Sharm and didn't leave the hotel for 10 days (well did one trip but that's it). Its got its own private beach, 5 pools, very luxurious, 5*, was quiet and chillled but not all inclusive.

If you search my posts I recommended to Mizz Pink I think a few days ago?

    Any questions please ask!

To be honest I am happy for any recommendations whatsoever!

Thought AI would be good so I don have to worry about money once I am there but if you know anywhere good of that sort I'll happily hear your ideas and investigate! Cheers P&P.

We've just come back from el gouna which is the other side of the red sea. we stayed at the three corners ocean view. there were two pools, a 'beach deck' and a free half hourly mini bus to and from the beach which took about 10 mins

it was a bit quiet for my taste tbh, but a good location and the food was pretty good. there was a dine around element to the AI which meant you could go to other restuarants in the resort and got a credit towards it

I've just booked Lykia World in Olu Deniz Turkey, we're going out next Friday. It's all inclusive and I intend to do nothing for 7 days. We went a few years ago and it was wonderful which is why we're booking it again.

You can't book from this link though, I did it through an agent.

If you're after sunbathing weather late April might be pushing it for Turkey - think it's mid-20s around now with the odd thunderstorm and rain shower not out of the question. I've also travelled around the Turkey a lot (actually I live in Ankara) but like P and P I'm not an AIer. I know that Marmaris is one to avoid though.

Never been to Sharm, however i've been to Icmeler in Turkey lots of times. Never AI as to be honest we like the variety of eating out in different restaurants.

I can however recommend here. My uncle and aunty and aunty's parents have stayed here a number of times.

I can also recommend the company for booking the holiday with too.

I have been to Sharm el Sheikh on several occasions as well as Hurghada.

Had a thoroughly good time in Na`ama Bay and I stayed in the Hilton. Easy walking distance to the main shopping sector and beaches.

Hurghada is more up and coming with a little more development occuring in the region, but some fantastic diving there.

I`m shortly spending a few days in Damascus and Amman so if they interest you, I could report back..I`m looking forward to a dip in the Dead Sea!

I stayed in the Hilton on each occasion. It was good enough hotel with several pools and very good quality rooms. Very close to everything you need and only 15 mins to the airport.

There seemed to be quiet a few pilots staying in our hotel which I took to be a good sign!

Thanks everyone. I have booked today for Turkey, Nr Gumbet, as we can fly into Bodrum from our most local airport making life sooo easy which is just ideal right now. Thanks for all your tips and ideas.

Another Q - what is the best currency to take to that area? I have read everything from Turkish Lira to Euros to Sterling!?!?!?

    Thanks in advance.

Turkish will clearly be used everywhere..Euro`s you might get stung with the locals giving you a dodgy rate, but then you can use them in Eurozone on further trips afterwards. Generally I usually use USD when travelling, near enough a universal currency and with the amount of travelling I do I can use them in more than one place!

Gosh I hadnt even thought of USD!!

I just heard from FIL that they prefer Euros or Pounds... although perhaps this links in to the dodgy rate element of your reply!!

As I said it`s really a personal preference. If you do a few trips to Europe a year then Euros might be worthwhile as you can use your Euros on your next trips without changing them back. If you don`t have many trips then just use Lira.

    Hello!

The hotel Hugo recommended was a bit of our budget also 5* dont normally offer all inclusive. If we go to Egypt I think we will book the Hilton Sharks Bay....not sure why I'm typing this as I think I put this in my other post !?

I really wouldn't take Euros - very expensive to buy with pounds and you'll just lose twice converting GBP to EUR and then to lira (you can often pay directly with lira in tourist resorts but you can guarantee that the rate they use will not be to your benefit). I would do one of the following - either use your ATM card, there are ATMs everywhere and if you get out a lot at a time you won't pay too much in charges, or take cash in pounds and change it at an exchange bureau. You won't get a good rate for buying lira in the UK so don't do that.
