Holiday Vouchers for Honeymoon

HollyLou, 15 February, 2012 at 09:40 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask your opinions. For our wedding pressies we are asking for Holiday Vouchers for our Honeymoon. We have been living together for some time now and really don't need anything for our home- however, what with saving up for the wedding and everything else thats gone on, we haven't had a holiday abroad together yet.

I am hoping we will be able to take the holiday vouchers and get a fantastic last minute deal, and fly away somewhere lovely and hot the week after our wedding. So obviously this is a bit risky, as we will both book holiday from work and hope that we can find a holiday at last minute that fits in our timeframe....

Do you think this is madness? Is there anything I haven't thought of- that could make this plan difficult/ unlikely to work?

Thanks in advance ladies! ? x

This is what were doing so i don't see any pitfalls as long as your not too fussy about where your going! we always book are holidays last minuite as do most of my friends because you can get holidays so cheap!

my advise is to get the highest star rating possible for your money as you wont have much time to research the hotel, going for a 5* and it turning out to be more of a 4* isn't a total disaster but booking a 3* and getting there to a 1-2* could ruin your honeymoon, also most places need a week between booking and leaving for your holiday, so draw up a chart of what the time length is for each company and have a look at what sort holidays they have available at the time of year your traveling and what the weather will be like, once you have all the infomation booking it the day after the wedding will take 10 minuites if that!!

We did this through Thomson. We had booked our holiday and people could pop in and pay some off or buy us vouchers from any Thomson store. Worked great and people loved it as we weren't asking for cash and they didn't have to think of a gift.

    Thanks ladies,

Your comments have made me feel more confident that this decision will pay off. Its exciting wondering where we will end up!

Emze- thanks for the tips. I will certainly remember this when it gets a bit closer to arranging it all.

Little Pixie- It is great to hear from someone who has tried this and it was a success!

Thanks again for your input ? x

We are going to do soemthing similar, well, ask for money rather than vouchers though to give us complete freedom of where and who we book with.

We plan on having a few short holidays over a year or two to keep that lovely feeling of it being part of our honeymoon (how self indulgent!)

We have never been on holiday abroad together so it will be extra special Smiley smile

Yea just shop around and i'm sure your find something, as someone else said cash rather then vouchers gives you more flexibility plus if for example you get £500 in vouchers and you find a deal you like for £350 you may end up with £150 worth of vouchers left when you could have had that money towards your spending money if it was cash.

Plus do you think you or your OH work would be flexible if you changed your annual leave +/-2 days? if you gave them prior warning this may be the case?

The time of year you plan on going will also effect the deals available if its school holidays for example everything is generally a lot more expensive and busier! One of the reasons we booked our wedding in September cheaper rates for venues and for honeymoons.

Also worth looking into booking flights and accommodation independently if no decent packages are available.

I will ask for vouchers and would you mind if this is what someone asked for. Is it just as rude to ask for vouchers as it is to ask for money. i wouldn't be offended at all if someone asked for vouchers as a wedding gift. i think they're a great idea acrtually - the bride and groom can pick something they actually want at whatever value they want without worrying abotu whether its too expensive an obhect to put on a list.

These are all very good points and things I will think about.... Thanks everyone!!

I think that next year when it comes to booking the holiday off work I will see how flexible they will be. It would be good if we could alter our annual leave by 1/2 days- especially if we find a great deal. It would be a shame to miss out just because we would get back 1 or 2 days later than planned...

Lots to think about!! Thanks again xx
