Holidaying in the USA

Hi

not really posted on here for AGES.....coming up to 5th wedding anniversary soon but...

I need inspiration - for my H's 50th next year. We've done the Hollywood trip taking us to Vegas, Grand Canyon, Paige, Flagstaff, Zion National Park and then back to LA;

For my 40th we did New York, drove up to Boston for a few nights then back to NY.

I would really like to go to Memphis and end up in New Orleans - we'll drive ourselves and book out own hotels but just wondered if anyone had done anything similar and whether they had any bright ideas. H loves music as I do so it would make sense to keep ending up in towns / cities with great music.

I've never done Memphis/New Orleans, but I had a great time on the Californian coast last year. Really loved it there and it was so laid back. We drove from San Luis Obispo north along the pacific coast highway to San Francisco, and then further north through the wine country and to the redwood forests. Not much in the way of music or big cities, but then we didn't really seek them out.

I have not been to New Orleans but I would second the california coast. Many excellent nature reserves worth visiting and further up the coast, fantastics red woods etc.

I visit California when I can as I have family there. Love Florida and Miami but mainly for tourists. California is stunning and beautiful expecially up by Little River a few hours north of San Francisco.

Hi!

We had a month long holiday in 2005 starting in NYC and finishing in San Diego - travelling across the country! We stayed overnight in the following places (and did lots of "day trips" too...

New York, Boston, Cooperstown, Buffalo, Las Vegas, Death Valley, San Francisco, San Simeon, LA, San Diego.

In 2007 we had 5 nights driving round the deserts - Bit of Route 66, Grand Canyon South Rim, Monument Valley, Zion National Park, Four Corners USA.

In just under 5 weeks we're off for a planes trains and automobiles trip! We start in Washington and then drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virgina, through Tennesse - Konxscille, Nashville, Memphis and then up to Chicago. Then after that we take the California Zephyr to Denvver (sleeper car) and then a plane to Vegas!

I've loved every trip in America. Highway 1 is a fab drive, the deserts were awesome (kinda boring - just a long straight road through nothingness - but so cool - especially in a convertable Mustang!). Looking forward to a bit of the South!
