For those of you that have made your own invites where did you get all your bits and bobs from, card etc. I cant see any I like so was going to have a go at making some.
I got kraft card blanks from ebay, paper from paperchase and a stamp from not on the highstreet, lace ribbon from a local haberdashery and little brown bows from hobbycraft! A website that does some really nice papers and embelishments is www.imaginedoingityourself.co.uk. A lot of others on here have also used and recommended pda card and craft!
I bought a kit from hobby craft that had the blanks, and loads of embellishments etc. But, it's looking more and more likely I'm going to give up and but ready made invites!
Yep, ebay (Kraft brown cards) and Hobbycraft here Very cheap and I also used some wrapping paper that I found in come card stores that looked pretty too. Ribbon was also purchased off ebay
Sorry, I must flash mine since I have now discovered how to flash!! Good luck - i had loads of fun making ours and people have appreciated the personal touch x
H2B and I are a bit techy, him more so than me, so we are designing our cards on photoshop ourselves and then printing them through vistaprint! Not exactly home made, but fairly close!
I got my card blanks with envelopes, glue, glue pen, glitter and ink from Handyhippo. The double sided tape and gel pen for writing the invites were from Hobbycraft (double sided tape is often on offer). The A4 card and silk paper for the inserts was from papercutz. The gems were from ebay.
The embossing folder (and machine) and stamps were bits I already owned as I'm a crafter anyway.
Another one making their own invitations here too. Ours are very very simple though, just some lovely quality cards from Hobbycraft and some ribbon and pearl beads from a local haberdashers. We are printing the fronts and insides on our home printer. Started doing it on Sunday night and the other half has already nearly thrown the printer out the window in frustration!
If you are going to make them yourself, get a few bits that you like and have a trial session over one weekend. We did this and it really makes you think about how complicated you are going to make them because there is only so much you can do without driving yourself insane. Not everyone will agree with me, but I take the view that the vast majority of these invitations are going to end up in the bin immediately after the wedding, so provided they look attractive and elegant, I would much rather spend the big money on other parts of the wedding.
We are planning to make our own invitations and I've had a mooch round The Range. I found loads of stuff and lots of inspiration at really really good prices.
We got our card and paper for making ours from here - http://www.greenstat.co.uk/StoreFront/home. Really quick delivery and good quality. We bought ribbon and glue from ebay. Under £40 for enough stuff to make all our invites, table plans, name cards and menus (we are having a small wedding though).
Can anybody help out there?!? I've found some fairly decent save the date/invites/name cards on hitched.co.uk website...but I cannot find a table plan anywhere in the same design on the website...they seem to cover every bit of the stationery apart from that...have I just missed it or is it the norm to do all stationery apart from the table plan and numbers???
I got card blanks, plain card (for inserts), envelopes and ribbon from a local garden centre with a craft shop concession, then a couple of heart punches and some patterned card from The Range. It took me ages to find some envelopes that fit my RSVPs and still fitted inside the invite but I managed to find some the right size in WH Smiths. The Range is brilliant for craft supplies - good prices and loads of choice. I've always been a bit crafty and my mum has started to do a few crafts as well so some of the other things that I needed (like a guillotine) we had between us anyway.
Totally agree with this! I had an idea of what I wanted in my head but when I actually sat down to do it, it just didn't work at all. In the end all mine were, was some coloured paper stuck on card and then our printed invite and a designed front stuck on top of that and some sibbon stuck down the side... even this sounds relatively simple but after two days of sticking paper to card for about 40ish invites I was knackered, lol
We got blank black cards and envelopes from Ebay, some red cards and envelopes from Hobbycraft for the RSVP's, a rubber rat stamp from Etsy all the way from Ohio, and some red lace from China (Ebay). All in all the invites cost us about £20 for all the bits. Oh and a last minute gold gel pen as we did not think about how to address said black envelopes! Oops.
Hi, I have recently set up a company specialised in creating Wedding website and advertise on Hitched. Creating a website allow you to create much smaller invitation that you can personalised and then send people to your website for some of the details like RSVP, maps, accommodation list, gift list and much more! our website can also be used later down the line to hold all your photo, video and guest book!
Have a look at our website to found more information, even if it is just for more inspiration and do not hesitate to contact me if you want any more information!
I got a lot of my stuff (ribbon, crystal brooches etc.) from Sparkles & Stuff www.sparkles-and-stuff.co.uk. They also now do a printing service where you just put your wedding details in and they print the inserts for you which is really is the most tricky bit of the whole DIY invites thing! I'd agree with someone else above that said to get some trial bits and play around with designs before making a final decision.
The Range is a good shop, I usually get anything I need thats remotely crafty from there.
We do want to make our own but wonder if it's worth it. We'll have several "pages" of information (directions, accommodation details, etc) as usually and making our own "cards" doesn't seem to give much from for all the info....
And the range (ha!ha!) is so vast! Many things in our house are from there... we have a wooden egg box, some candle holders, handy things.... a mirror... plant pots... etc
I'm going to get the card for ours from PDA I think; I saw them recommended on here and ordered some samples and was really impressed with the service and price; got 5 or so little 'books' of card swatches for £1.50 so I could choose exactly what colours we need and their range is huge!
