Honest Opinions required

VHGT, 3 February, 2014 at 12:32 Posted on Planning 0 40

Hi Ladies & Gents,

In the midst of our wedding planning, my future hubby & I are looking to develop a new business.

Would you consider having stone baked pizza at your wedding? Either for your wedding meal or as the evening buffet?

Basically it would work similar to how a hog roast would work. The pizzas would be made/cooked fresh in a pizza oven brought to the venue.

Potentially 3-4 flavours available. Would you want anything in addition to pizza? or would pizza suffice?

We have a contacted a few wedding venues locally who offer hog roasts etc and have suggested this as an alternative. The response has been positive.

All ideas welcome, we are very much in the early stages of researching it.

Thanks

V x

Its personal taste...however, IMHO I would never consider Pizza at a wedding....to me Pizza is something people can have every day if they wish...not so much with a hog roast or traditional wedding breakfast....but I guess it could work as part of the evening food. However, if you want to do Pizza at your wedding....its your wedding day, you have what YOU want.

Yes I think this would be a fantastic idea! I was hoping to have a pizza stand as my evening food where guests could choose their own toppings etc and the company I was looking at had their own portable stone baked oven but unfortunately the two venues I am interested in don't allow outside catering so I am nit sure if this would become a problem for you if most venues dont allow this either.

I personally wouldn't, but imagine other people would like it if it was combined with other food stalls. I know some of my older guests have never had pizza before so wouldnt want it, and also I'm gluten free so it wouldnt be suitable for me either.

Main thing for me would be getting pizza down my dress!

I think it's a fab idea, and would be a unique personal touch for the wedding! Im sure it'd be a good choice for even the fussiest easters, esp with a few different choices. There is nothing wrong with trying something out of the ordinary for your big day, and would maybe be a welcome change to traditional wedding buffets. Xx

Yes I would I am! I wouldn't have it as my main meal as I'm having a more formal meal but for the evening it's perfect. I love a hog roast but have it all the time whereas I don't have pizza very often. We have 5 options for the pizza but as they are made fresh you can change it if you don't like olives or somehting for example. I have a guest who is gluten free and they will bring bases/dough for her as well.

Yes I would definitely consider it in the evening, as long as it was proper Italian pizza and not Dominos style ? Doesn't need anything with it but if you wanted to serve extras I would go for rocket salad & garlic bread. NOT chips. ?

I agree with others, I think it would be a good idea for an alternative in the evening.

I know that my oh would love this idea!

I definitely think that a range of different sides would also be good, even if they are limited in numbers

    Most definitely!

I love "alternative" wedding food and couldn't say no to pizza!

Then again were having a burger van at ours, so perhaps not the best judge ?

We are having our wedding breakfast at Pizza Express ? but if we weren't I would definitely consider something like this. As long as there was a range of options (veggie, spicy etc) it would be great.

Totally agree, i love an evening buffet with food like bacon / sausages sandwiches and chips, rather than the classic spread. Pizza i would have loved, shame the OH hates cheese.

    Fab idea, good luck.

We're having pizza as our evening buffet, it's coming out at around 10:30. They'll be made on site in a wood oven and have a few toppings and salads etc.

Didn't even think that it'd be a weird option.

I'd go for that! We're having informal food all day so it would sit well with our street food stalls and ice cream van!

Think this is a great idea. I had actually considered this and I saw a supplier that offered this service although I can't remember who or where they are from (sorry that's not that helpful!). The main reason I didn't take it further was the time taken to cook each pizza. Even though they said it would take something like 3minutes, I think they did 2 at a time and it would take too long to feed everyone at our evening do. So perhaps just think about timings and how to market it.

Overall I know a lot of people that would find it strange but a lot of people are having more laid back weddings these days and a lot of people like to have something a bit different.

    GOod luck!

    xxx

This^^ I'm purposely having white food, apart from the chocolate cheesecake, because I know I'll end up spilling down my dress. I would have had pizza though if it was an option as me and OH LOVE pizza!!!

I would, but then again we did have curries and samosas at our meal (but I'm half-Indian).

I have seen companies doing this before too.

I'd love it if we went to a wedding and they had pizzas. Personally I'd prefer it to 'normal' wedding food, especially as a vegetarian. But it would really have to be decent quality pizza, with good salad (olives, feta, rocket, mozzarella etc). With a decent number of veggie options (possibly a margherita, a roasted vegetable pizza, a pepperoni and maybe a chicken pizza?).

    Pizza!!!!

Who doesnt like pizza after a few drinks? Perfect evening food! Beats a 'brown buffet' any day.

I don't think it 'needs' anything with it but would happily polish off some salads, chips, wedges etc if they were on offer too.

I'd like this idea for an evening buffet, but would prefer if they were cooked on site - warm pizza with a wider choice of flavours would be far more appealing than colder pizza with less flavours. My OH and I have different tastes in pizza topping (I like spicy and mushrooms, he likes meat feast and pineapple), so made to order would suit us better.

If it was colder, buffet type pizza I'd want other types of nibbles, whereas if it was made warm at the wedding I wouldn't expect extras.

I love pizza and would consider something like this, however only for the evening.

Maybe some garlic bread and wedges in addition?

I think it works really well as evening buffet/food - if it takes time to do pizzas you could do larger ones and people get slices. I'd love a slice of pizza after a few drinks and dancing. I don't think you *need* anything with it.

Yes I would. In fact there is a stone baked pizza oven at our venue. We won't be using it on the wedding day as all that is covered, but we will on the evening before.

I would set it up like the pig roasts - pizza and a range of salads or hot/ cold buffet options. You'd need to look into costings though. I know for eg that most pig roasts are between £400 - £900, then there are chip, pie and baked potato vans for around the same price or less. So you would have to be comparable

I was going to book with a company that offered pizza. He had a pick up with a trailer and a stone bake oven. He came to your wedding and set up his oven under a white canopy and supplied boxes. These could be a any colour and personalized with bride/grooms name and date. Each pizza took 90 secs.

I was planning on having buffet still, As with my venue I have to have buffet for 100 otherwise im not allowed outside catering, But then I thought well with my wedding cake sweet buffet and popcorn machine it would be a waste. So didn't book him, He did say guests only got two to three slices and not like a 10in. So I would still need a buffet anyway but for 80 guests quote was over 600pounds.

All the weddings iv been to with hog roasts they have it all at the venue ready to go and remember it feeds big numbers easy. Do you mean you would cook it offsite? I just wonder how much pressure you would be under to cook say 70 to 100 pizzas for a sit down meal. I would think some would go cold and with traffic you could get delayed, I would want my wedding meal cooking onsite, As I would be worried. You would need to attend wedding fairs to promote your company and they are not cheap. You will be competing against hog roast company's which are very popular so something to think about. Most venues only allow inside catering as others have mentioned as well. Most venues will do bacon butties now aswell.

Also with all the craze, you all ready have popcorn stands, cookie/cake carts, cheeses counters dessert tablets and candy carts etc

Maybe u could go to loads of wedding fairs in your area and see exactly what company's there are already and see if theres a gap or if u could do it better. What about having stands/carts built and offer some of the above and build some postboxs and wishing wells. Giant garden games is another good one. buy offline or u can make ur own jenga and dominos as there wood blocks. Also center pieces like big silver candle holders would be good to hire out. (kids b'days to) You could build your company one thing at a time lol so then if u want to still do pizzas you will know the market and if it would be cost effective and popular enough to take off. I hope some of this helps lol. Im self employed so know how hard it can be to try and build a company. Also you couldn't really do just pizza as if guests don't eat it they go without food so you would need say chicken wings and at least wedges. Hog roasts come with wedges salads sauces, Even seen Yorkshires/gravy lol

I would love to have pizza for the evening meal, to accompany other dishes and it's way better than sausage rolls! I wouldn't choose it for the wedding breakfast though.
