Honestly, how often do you wash your bras?

Mrs Magic, 1 May, 2009 at 12:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 107

A study has shown that most women only wash their bras every two months. In that, given most people have several bras, they say an individual bras get worn seven times before washing.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/5254406/Women-spend-2700-on-bras-but-only-wash-them-six-times-a-year.html

So, how often, being honest, would you say you wear one bra before you wash it? I know it's been done before but it's topical today. ?

I only have two bras that fit me. As a heavy 36HH/J, strong bras are hard to come by and very expensive. (At least when I was a 32FF, they were still expensive but could get pretty ones. ?) I would say I wear each one about 4 or 5 times before washing. I take them off as soon as I get home as they are so uncomfortable and I don't wear them on at home days. I wash both every two weeks or so, depending on how often I have been out.

I only wear them once. but i don't have expensive bras

i don't wash them by hand either, although i know you're supposed to. so i tend to have to mend them when the wires stick through. i don't know what would be least effort tbh.

It depends. My sports bra I wash every time. Normal bras maybe 2-3 wears? I fear that I am a bit slapdash about keeping track though- I'm sure it's sometimes after every wear and sometimes more than 3, but if I can't tell I suppose it doesn't matter.

I do mine in the machine too, and always have. ?

My bras are usually about £40 each and they still don't fit me properly, hence I only have two. I would love to go to a shop that sells pretty matching sets that don't cost a fortune. The only time I've ever had a matching set was my wedding day and the knickers were bloody horrible. [granarama] ?

ETA, I have very fond memories of my FF sports bras. They were so comfortable and supportive. They don't do sports bras in my sizes, gutted! ?

I buy one bra and two pairs of matching knickers, so wear the bra twice (with a clean pair of knickers each time) and then wash it, usually. On occasion, I may wear it another time or two. I buy fairly cheap ones (2 for £20 from La Senza type thing) and just throw them in the machine.

Um probably after about 4 or 5 wears, but I dont wear one for very long, usually only when not indoors at home (so usually only a few times a week for a few hours) I hate having to wear one all day if Im not at home, stupid large heavy boobs!

I fid it amusing that the article seems to be outraged that only a third of women "bother" to match their knickers and bra!

Every 2-3 wears for me. I have loads but only wear about 3 of them regularly. Chuck them in the washing machine too. I don't think I have ever washed any item of clothing by hand - but then I'm a lazy bones!

Probably wash them after 3-4 wears, as I usually wash / wear two bras a week.

I shamefully have over 40 bras in my collection at last count.

I have about 5 practical wear bras but can't always keep track of where they are or how often they've been worn. I'd say maybe up to about 5 days to a week max but then sometimes after a couple of wears of straight after the gym so a mixture

My standard work ones probably 3 times, nicer matching sets twice as I normally buy 2 pairs of knickers. Always machine washed in with the colours or whites and not done them any harm despite the under-wiring.

Every 2-3 wears. I always hand wash, having nearly killed my last washing machine when the underwire came out of a bra. My bras now last longer too.

Must say i'm surprised at larger boobed ladies prefering to be braless. I'm not THAT large but feel much less comfortable when I don't have the old over shoulder boulder holder on - perhaps my ❤️❤️ are saggier?

For my plain black or white ones I probably wear them 3-4 times before washing them as I have lots of knickers to go with them but the patterned ones will only be once as I only usally have one matching set of knickers.

LG - My boobs are saggier than a saggy thing in a saggy factory but bras (even with wide staps) really hurt my shoulders. Also, my boobs don't hurt but the feeling of relief I get when I take a bra of is so nice. I only ever wear a bra at home if we have visitors. Having no bra on isn't brilliant as the heavy sag isn't particularly nice but it's much more preferable to wearing a bra.

Sports bras, every time obviously, as they're not particularly nice after being soaked in sweat ?

Normal bras, probably around every 3 wears, but I've probably gone longer without realising it for some everyday ones. I'd say my going out bras would be washed every 1-2 wears. (I have a drawer of daytime underwear, and a drawer of 'evening' wear ? ).

When I was richer than I am now and bought very expensive underwear, I'd wash it all painstakingly by hand. Now that it's all from places like Le Senza, it goes straight in the washing machine.

I was my sports bra after every wear. Normal 'day' bras I don't really know ? I try to wear a different one everyday. I always wear a matching set and will buy 3 knickers per bra.

My 'special' ? bras hardly ever get washed and when I do wash them I do it by hand as they aren't cheap!

Once a week. I only have two that are v v comfy, and I usually forget. I do change them after a exercise as they are sweaty. They never get smelly though, in my defence ?

I put mine in a sock, and then wash as usual. It seems to protect the bra and the washer (she says hopefully.

Each bra costs 30 quid, so I can't justify having loads. Although I should try and wash them more.

I would wash a sports bra probably every time, and other bras every two or three wears. Surely seven times is leaving it too late?

Probably around every 3-4 wears though it does vary. All my bras cost around the £30 mark (30E - not easy to get hold of). I have seven and they're all variations on the same style, i.e. moulded and very plain but give me a fantastic shape. I used to have pretty bras but non-moulded ones don't give me enough uplift and shape and it's hard to find pretty patterned moulded bras in my size.

Too late for what? If they aren't dirty or smelly, is it really necessary to clean them?

Blimey, I wash mine after every wear - and if I shower twice in one day (ie before going on a night out etc) then I'll put a new bra on then too. And bras and knickers always have to match - even if they're just plain white ones.

Since being pregnant I wash after one wear because for some reason I get eczema otherwise. Before pregnancy I wore a bra for 2 days. I really surprised that people wear them for 5/6/7 days - do you wear your t-shirts for similar numbers of days? Surely your bra gets sweatier etc than your t-shirt? And I'm a slovenly person who only washes sheets once a fortnight and towels once a week!

I only wear t-shirts once or twice depending on the weather (and hence level of sweatiness). My bras don't really get sweaty as they don't actually touch my armpits.

Always in the machine. And i wear a clean bra each day.

But i have loads of bras. I have a habit of buying them in sales. I don't match bra and knickers either. Only if i'm going out or somewhere special. Not because i'm going to flash them, just because i feel more done up with matching undies.
