Honeymoon!

Beckyv83, 7 February, 2010 at 13:34 Posted on Planning 0 28

Right

I know this sounds silly but well i dont even know how to explain this!!!

Every year for the last 8 years whenever we go on holiday (me and h2b) we go with my parents and my brother and his g/f at the time (2 different ones over 8 years!). This is normally 2 times a year and then we may take a shorter break alone. We love going on holiday with them and have an amazing time as we all get on so well!

We are going to be on holiday the same time as they are going on our yearly september holiday too.

We were going to go on honeymoon for 10/11 days and then meet them for 6/7 days.

Me and H2B are thinking that now we may just do 7 days alone and then be with them for 10 days as we have so much fun with them and dont really want to miss out!!

But i kinda feel guilty that maybe we should spend a bit longer by ourselves, but i also know we will get bored and want to be with them!!

I dont even really know what i am asking, maybe just for some justification that its okay just to spend 7 days together and then head off to the family!!!

If that's what you want then you should do it.

Personally, I wouldn't lke it. Holidays are a time for me and D to spend time together. But we're a bit travel mad.

But, a honeymoon should be treated as a "dream holiday" going whereever and doing whatever you want! Some people do a small city break, some stay in the UK, others go on exotic round the world trips. No honeymoon is better or worse cos it's what that couple loves and wants to do.

So you go for it girl!! ?

I think thats the problem! Like you we are travel mad. So most of the places we ever wanted to go we have been or have plans to go in the next few years, i feel bad saying it but we are travel spolied!

One of our favs like you is Las Vegas but we have been so many times now have had to force ourselfs to try somewhere different!

You are right we should do what we want just feel kinda gulity!!! Where are you going for your first honeymoon?

    I agree with GB.

A honeymoon is whatever u want it to be. Personally we are going to centreparcs for the week straight after the wedding so we can take the dog on holiday with us (sad i know) and then later in the year a trip to an exotic location (maldives etc). We don't normally holiday to far away locations but we look at this as our last opportunity to do this as OH wants children as soon as possible.

Do whatever you want to do. It's your honeymoon ?

I have no idea! D has booked it all as a surprise.

We always had grand plans for our honeymoon - a month long round the world adventure but we decided it was a bit siloly to try and do a really expensive trip straight after the most expensive day of your lives. But we did want to go away straight after the wedding as it didn't feel right to wait for a honeymoon.

In the end we've gone for 2 weeks though that's about all I can tell you - other than the fact it's the most expensive trip we'll have been on to date (well over double what it cost us for nearly 3 weeks in Bali last year and more than our month long holiday in America!). D decided he couldn't win the wow factor of exotic locations (quite a few of the traditional wedidng destinations we've already been to) so decided the honeymoon was all about luxury and spending quality time together. We normally stay in 3-4* places but he's pushed the boat out on hotels this time.

Honeymoon Part 2 (as we like to cll it - helps jusitfy it!) is 7 nights on the East Coast - Washington, Philadelphia and New York and then 7 nights in Vegas!! I can't wait for that!!

We also talk about Honeymoon part 3 at Christmas... ?

But then that's the reason we're only now getting married at the age of 32, after 8 years together and don't yet own a house! ?

    You sound just like us.

Weve been together 8 years and seem to travel very similar to you. Weve been to most of the traditional honeymooney destinations and are finding it hard to find somewhere different!

I love your east coast itinerary! We are looking to do an across america trip maybe next year or the year after, because although weve seen most of the big cities we want to explore some of the smaller cities. We would need a month for that, so go to wait till next year for the money and the holiday allowance at work! Have you been to New York?, you will love it.

I know what you mean with wow factor, i just dont think we will beat some of the places we have already been!

One place we have never been is Mexico, so we are leaning towards there?? Have you ever been?

Haha! Most of our mates think we're mad - they're not big travellers. We went to see about a mortgage once and came back feeling down about the big increase in rent payments we'd need and the fact that our sacing potential would pretty much disappear so we booked to go to Barbados instead! Our mates couldn't believe we'd have a holiday over buying a house ?

Nope - not been to Mexico - well apart from a day trip to Tijuana! ?

Where is it your fancying for your honeymoon? Where would you go with your parents? You could go away somewhere nice the 2 of you for a week and then join your parents and brother. It will feel a bit like the wedding is continuing! ?

We went to New York when we did our month long trip. Not been to Philly or Washington though. I love that about America, the driving and the small towns you find. One of our fave towns is Cooperstown, NY, I also loved Buffalo, NY for it's Buffalo wings and Williams, AZ.

I love the whole barbados holiday thing!!! I like your style!

Thats what we were thinking. Maybe a week or 10 days in mexico alone, all inclusive. We were looking at Moon Palace.

Then we were going to join them in florida, its kind of family tradition, we head to florida in the september and then do a bit of travelling while there. So last year we did a 7 day Carnival cruise while we were there round the Caribbean.

So its the choice or 7 or 10 days alone and then the rest with them. We are leaning against just the 7 days alone.

The month long trip sounds amazing also!

    Haha! Yeay! Me too!!!

Our honeymoon is costsing £5200 for 2 weeks. The most we've EVER spent on a holiday, And we're planning on spending money of nearly £3000 so that we can do what ever we want and don't have to scrimp. He said he doesn't want to be in a situation where we have to say no to doing something.

I normally organise all the holidays so it's really nice that D's doing it for me. And he's probably spent more than I would have so double bonus! ?

We're gonna ry and sprog it up straight away (getting on a bit, need to start soon!) so these could be our last fancy holidays for a while!

We aren't having a 'proper' honeymoon as we had already booked a holiday before OH proposed. We're just going to Majorca 2 weeks after the wedding with our son, brother, SIL and their 2 boys, SIL's mother, her boyfriend, 2 boys and a cousin (and my parents and other brother are thinking about booking up to go with us).

We couldn't have gone away on our own as we would not have anyone to look after our son. I know we'll have a lot of fun on this holiday with everyone else and we'll also have a lot more babysitters so we can spend some time on our own.

OMG - you are my new best friend ? Girl after my own heart ?

I do know that i'm adding at least one new country to my list!

D's told me were travelling BA on honeymoon and we're flying BA to the US in September. I've worked out that with the points we already have and the cost of buying the few we need to make up the numbers we can get to Barbados over Christmas really cheaply! We went in 2007 and it was amazing. Defo want to try and do something this Christmas.

Yeah, at 32 it's about time so planning a big holiday year in case it's the last for a while. If not, then we're planning a big trip for our first anniversary! ?

Want somewhere we havent been that is beautiful and different. We also want the luxury of all inclusive. Beaches and relaxation time really. Also things to see, so im interested in the Mayan Ruins.

We are looking at Moon Palace and Riu Caribe in Cancun. People say Moon Palace is supposed to be amazing.

Have you stayed at either of these places?

You do whatever feels right for the both of you. If it feels right and it is what you both want then of course it is ok! It is your honeymoon and if this way will make it more special then go for it.
