Honeymoon gift list sites...

dkennedy14, 22 June, 2011 at 13:31 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 5

Hi There,

I wondered if anyone can recommend a good honeymoon giftlist site..or even if they are worth it!

I have looked at buy my honeymoon.co.uk and a few others but each seem to offer different services and ways of paying, and i am getting confused!

We are planning on going to NYC for a few days then orlando for a fortnight and notice some just collect money in an account for you and others let you put experiences for people to "buy" or contribute to.

My friend recently got married and just asked for cash to use as spending money, is this just as simple and appropriate I wonder?

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

I was looking for one of these too, but my OH is very wary of them as if any of these companies go bust mid way through having had all your friends and family contribute towards your honeymoon, you would be very unlikley to get the money back.

So I would be interested if anyone has got any reccomendations of one of these companies who maybe has a policy in place for if the worst should happen (it isn't something that is usually covered in wedding insurance)

I like Buy Our Honeymoon and I personally did use Turquoise Holidays's own gift list service when booking my own a couple years ago. I love the idea because they're so easy to use and my friends & fam loved that they could pick out the experiences I was going to have on my honeymoon. It made asking for contributions a lot easier too. I like the idea of tying it in with the tour operator because they take the money directly and put it towards the honeymoon.

Only downside is you have to pay the balance of the honeymoon 3 or so months before you actually go - so it won't really spread the cost unless people donate quickly. We just ended up having our contributions go towards experiences while on Seychelles rather than actually paying towards total cost.

I think asking for cash is acceptable. One of my husband's cousins did that and we were fine with it. It's just a bit more fun to have a list!

Hi, I'm from a company called Zankyou.com. We provide a service where couples can create whatever gifts they like in a totally customised online gift list and then we transfer the cash equivalent of the gifts to your bank account so that you can go and buy your gifts wherever and from whomever you'd like. So you can list your honeymoon and buy it from your favourite travel agent rather than the ones that have a honeymoon gift list service. We charge a service fee of 2.85%. There aren't any other hidden costs except on additional transfers - we do one free transfer but if you'd like to transfer the cash contributed to your wedding multiple times, additional transfers carry a small administration fee.

Our competitors all have a different rate structure - sites such as e-wedding.co.uk, thebottomdrawer.co.uk - so it's up to you which you prefer and what site features you like best.

Moonpie1985 raises a valid point - when people first here of Zankyou they often ask about the security of the service. Zankyou handled approximately 100,000 gifts last year. We only recently launched in the UK but are well established in several European countries as well as Brazil, the US and other countries across the world and have an unblemished record in regard to appropriate use and handling of funds.

I hope this information was helpful. Take a look if you have a minute and hopefully you'll like it.All the best, Jacqui from Zankyou

I know you posted about this ages ago, but I've just been looking back through old threads and have only just read this. We haven't sorted our honeymoon yet, but a friend who is getting married next week has used honeyfund.com. I don't know how the set up works, but I went on today and contributed. They had a list of things they wanted to be able to do on honeymoon with a cost of how much it would cost. So for example, she had cocktails each at £10 and I think 40 options to buy. Then she had more expensive things like massages which were about £50 each. I went and selected what I wanted to buy, I could write a short message and then it takes you through to another screen where it gives you the option of either sending a cheque to the couple, giving the couple cash or it gives you the couples bank account details so you can just transfer the cash. It also gives you a gift certificate thing which you can print off. So I'll print this off (it says what I have bought) and will pop it in the card and I've transferred the money to their account. I guess this way, if the company does go bust, they don't actually have any of the couples money. I know they may not spend it on the actual thing I said the money was for in accordance with their list (does that make sense?!) but they've got money towards their honeymoon or spending money which is what they wanted. HTH and isn't too confusing!
