Honeymoon in Italy

MissExcited, 17 September, 2014 at 20:55 Posted on Planning 0 19

Hi everyone.

Me and my FI have just started looking at honeymoon ideas and we're looking at Italy at the moment. I've been to Florence before and I loved it there. So for our honeymoon in Mid-June 2015 we want to go to a few different places: Rome, Naples/Sorrento, Pompeii, Venice & Milan. We're really excited about it and have set aside 10 days for this trip. There are some really cheap flights from ryanair at £103 (Manchester – Rome, Milan – Manchester).

Is anyone else planning on honeymooning in Italia? Smiley smile x

    Hi Sambarine.

Your honeymoon will be fab! When are you going? Do you think two days in Venice will be enough?

Hi ladies! i'm afraid i don't know Sorrento, Schwelley. MissExcited, we arrived in Venice in the morning (by train), and stayed 3 days. I think 2 might be cutting it a little fine, especially if you want to visit some of the islands (I recommend Murano!) Also recommend taking the Vaparetta (water bus) whenever you can, it's fab. Also, stay away from restaurants on the canal, they are tourist traps - little pizzerias on back streets are definitely the way to go Smiley smile

    you'll love it!

Also, have you thought about how you'll get from rome to venice/milan? we found the trains to be really good the first time we went in 2008 (took the train from venice to florence and then florence to pisa for our flight back), and the train stations are beautiful buildings to visit in themselves. just make sure you validate your tickets after purchase! we kept getting in trouble for not stamping them in the machines. we'll probably be going in late may/early june 2015 (straight after our wedding) if i can wangle the time off work (i'm an exams officer and that's gcse time, so we'll see!)

We are going to Venice for 3 nights then Sorrento for a week, then Rome for 3 nights. Travelling by train in between each one. I really cannot wait.

We would love to have our honeymoon in Italy, neither of us have ever been and it's definitely our first choice. However, we're getting married at the end of September and i'm worried about the weather that time of year. The other option is to wait until spring/early summer the following year, but OH isn't too keen on that idea. Does anyone have experience of Italy during September/October? All your honeymoon ideas sound amazing!

Love Italy!! You'll have an amazing time. We got married just outside of Rome and have just got back from our minimoon in the city.

If you're going to do Sorrento/Naples, make sure you add Capri in to the mix. It's so beautiful it'd be a shame to not spend a few hours there.

Grand Hotel de la Ville. H and I stayed there for our honeymoon and it was really wonderful. The food was amazing, rooftop pool, and breakfast in the lemon garden was amazing.

Take a guided trip around Sorrento if you can. & a trip to Pompeii is definitely worth the money.

I wouldn't recommend a day trip to Rome from Sorrento. It'll take a good 2-3 hours to get there and you wont have enough time to do it all in a day.

Thank you all for all your comments and tips! I will check them all out. We're looking into getting the train across Italy which I've been told was definitely more affordable than in this country!!! I'm really looking forward to our honeymoon now Smiley smile.

HappyRedCars135, I went to Florence first week of September a few years ago and it was still really nice and hot so I don't think you'll need to worry about the weather?!

We honeymooned in Italy. We flew into Venice and out of Naples. We did 13 nights, 2 in Venice, 3 in Florence, 3 in Rome and 5 on the Amalfi Coast. We hired a Fiat 500 but I wouldn't recommend driving. My OH did it all but it was very stressful. He's a policeman and is used to driving at high speeds etc but they're mental! Someone crashed into the side of us after cutting over three lanes. There are also limited traffic zones in all of the major cities and it's an automatic 100 euro fine if you accidentally drive into them. Some of our friends did a similar journey and used the train - I'd do it that wah if we went back.

All that said, we had the most amazing time! Definitely a good choice!

We honeymooned in Amalfi itself - got back on Monday

it was amazing and would highly recommend. We expected rain after day 1 but ignore all weather signs as had some rain very late at night but the daytime was very, very hot. We were pleasantly surprised to say the least!!

If you plan to go to the Amalfi coast, save your suitcase allowance and don't pack heels - you won't need them, I took some but 1 my feet were so hot they were uncomfortable even to wear for food at our fancy hotel but 2 you will break your neck on the climb up or down once outside or walking around town.

We were lucky to have a private transfer and didn't venture outside of Amalfi because of a bomb scare at Luton Airport on Monday the 8th meant we didn't arrive till Wednesday 10th so didn't really have time to go to other places as lost a few days but overheard several people who came on buses that they felt carsick due to the winedy roads - so if you get sick bring something

Also there are mozzies - I don't normally get bitten but my god I got eaten alive, so prepare to bring or buy some spray.

Sorry that all sounds negative but it really is the most romantic place, the food, the wine is amazing - everyone is so friendly and like us you will want to go back

    Ciao xx
