Honeymoon in LA?

ClaireMcToBe, 2 December, 2011 at 20:35 Posted on Planning 0 6

Starting to think about our honeymoon. I wanted to go to the Caribbean but because of the time of year (end of Sept/beginning Oct) I was a bit wary of all the hurricane season stuff! I suggested a mini-moon to OH and then we could do Christmas in New York but he's all "been there done that" and wants us to go somewhere hot. So he suggested LA. I had a quick google and it seems reasonably within our budget. We probably wouldn't book it until last minute, hoping to be able to put any cash gifts towards the trip and also hoping to be able to get a last minute bargain! Just throwing some ideas around at the minute.

Anyone been, or going?

I have been. Look to stay in Santa Monica or even better Pasedena. Do you drive? If you don't then steer clear - LA is a city for drivers, impossible to get anywhere without a car! If you need advice on what to do and what to see then give me a shout!

    Hi

My brother lives about an hour south of LA. I would definitley second about it is all driving.

In terms of actual LA, I wouldnt want to stay there for a whole trip, however all of the area around is gorgeous. The beaches are lovely.

San Diego, further south is the cleaniest and one of the nicest cities I have ever been to and well worth a visit. There are also lots of nice place inbetween.

    Hope that helps

I'm going next year (doing Vegas, Hawaii then LA) and staying at the Beverly Wiltshire. My wife has been before and we have friends there; you'll definitely need to hire a car!

Thanks all! We do drive, and normally do hire a car whenever we go anywhere on holiday just so we can see a little bit more of the world! I never thought about doing a few different places in one trip, maybe need to look into that!

Definitley would suit if you like to see a bit, there is so much within driving distance of LA.

I had never been to the area before my brother moved there and now I can't recommend it enough. People are lovely, climate is lovely and everything in close distance.

In the past we have been on the beach in the morning and in the mountains snowboarding by the afternoon!

    Any questions, just ask

Grrrrr! Just told OH about the driving thing and he said (for the first time EVER when talking about going on holiday) that he doesn't want to drive. Honeymoons are about relaxing (what, after all this stressful wedding planning that he's I'm doing?!?!) so he's now changed his mind! Anywhere else anyone's willing to suggest that it's not necessary to hire a car?

    Hiya,

we did San Francisco - Long Beach (LA) - Vegas as our summer holiday this year and it was amazing but we did all the travel on a Harley and definitely needed it in LA!

San Francisco is amazing and you don't need a car there. We've been to the Dominican Republic twice in September and have always been lucky.

We're going to Kenya for our honeymoon in March ?

What about going to somewhere in Europe - St Tropez, Rome etc.
