Honeymoon in UK in october

foosey, 25 February, 2012 at 15:05 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi

We are getting married the 21st October 2012, and have decided that it is going to cost too much for us to go abroad after paying for the wedding, so we have both agreed that we will get a lodge or cottage in either Wales or cornwall for our honeymoon, so i was wondering if people can recommend anywhere in these areas that would be good to stay.

TIA

Cornwall will prob be nicer weather in Oct than Wales, although both can be hit and miss. Me and OH like staying in the Fistral Bay area, close enough to walk to the town centre if needed but far enough out so that it is totally peaceful with stunning sea views in almost any property you could find.

Wales...hmm... avoid places like Rhyl, a bit tacky and I say that because I have family there and in Prestatyn, and they think the areas have really gone downhill over the last few years. Snowdonia, Llandudnno, Colwyn Bay and Betwsycoed can be really picturesque on a dry day!

We are planning on going to Cornwall because it's beautiful and we want to take the family (i.e. four legged friend!). We're planning on going back to a brilliant cottage in Polperro that we've been to before. The village is lovely, right on the coast, plenty of beautiful walks and friendly local pubs and a fantastic restaurant. You should have a look on cornishcottageholidays.co.uk - they have loads of lovely places, and October is out of season so it shouldn't be too pricey!

Never nerve been to Wales but Cornwall is gorgeous! We went to Carbis bay two years ago in the June and we loved it, we stayed in an apartment for about £500 for a week and we were a short walk from the beach which was not crowded at all (I hate crowds!). There's plenty to do nearby and in other towns just outside the area too.

Agree with avoiding Rhyl. Not just for honeymoon but for all days out ? Although they have got a nice theatre and pretty good shops!

Near Powys there are some amazing log cabins that are about £200-£300 for a long weekend. Very private, surrounded by field, hot tub, tvs in the shower (which holds 6 people so I've been told!). I'm not sure of the name but google should be able to help.

Also, if you're looking for a nice quiet honeymoon, then I'd say Caernarfon would be a nice area. Close to Snowdon/Betws Y Coed. Bangor and Anglesey aren't far away for days out. As is Porthmadoc and Barmouth which are very picturesque with lovely cosy pubs and nice food! Perfect for escaping the rain!

However, don't be too negative on the weather. Last October it was as warm as Spring here in North Wales!

Ps. To balance the view a bit, I love Cornwall too. Especially St Ives.

That time of year, South coast of Devon, Cornwall or Wales is key. Devon and Cornwall have many high cliffs which means that many of the Northern beaches are in shade due to the lower sun at this time of year.

I absolutely love Cornwall, but I can also reccomend North Wales, yes it might rain some of the time but its a really romantic area around Snowdonia. I also suggest climbing Snowdon for a really memorable trip and massive sense of achievement once at the top!

We got married at the beginning of October and had a mini moon straight after in Cornwall. We stayed in a lodge but I cant for the life of me remember what it was called!
