Honeymoon indecision...

BlossomKatie1993, 14 June, 2017 at 20:49 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi all,

I'm in the middle of browsing honeymoon destinations and I just really can't make my mind up about where to go! It's come to the point now that i'm getting a little bit stressed over it and I feel like I'll never be able to make a decision.

I think I've narrowed it down to two destinations, Jamaica and Mexico. Me and fiance have always wanted to go Jamaica for our honeymoon but I've been advised not to go because of the crime rates out there and that its not the safest of countries unless you stay in your resort. We normally just stay in the resort anyway when we go on holiday but we do like going on excursions aswell, so I don't want to be stuck somewhere. Has anyone been to Jamaica and would advise a place for our honeymoon?

Mexico was our second option because we have been there before and had the most amazing time. I'm just worried that going a second time may not be the same... Has anyone else been to Mexico more than once?

I basically love the Caribbean, the beach parties, all inclusive resorts, beautiful beaches and luxury rooms at an affordable price. I went to the Dominican Republic but wouldn't go there again, and I've heard the food in Cuba isn't great (me and my fiance are big foodies!)

So I'm just stuck on what to do really!

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks X

Both are incredible - flip a coin. Jamaica is not unsafe. I'd put it on par with Mexico. The food in Cuba isn't great unfortunately. Cuban food in Miami is delicious, but they struggle with high quality ingredients in Cuba (at least in Havana).

I've not been to Jamaica, but I did work with someone who lived there. She said it is really dangerous in some places, but that the tourist areas it's not tooo bad, it was mostly people who weren't be careful that got picked on. On the resorts it should be safe, as long as you make sure it's a reputable one, so make sure you check tripadvisor thoroughly!

Mexico is pretty big, so you could go to a different area? We're going to somewhere we've been before for honeymoon, but we're staying in a super posh hotel and doing stuff we wouldn't normally be able to justify!

Although have you thought about doing a cruise? I've done several round the caribbean and loved them. You should be able to get one that visits mexico and jamaica (and other places). Cruise ships have several inclusive restaurants, and a few pay extra places and you can get drinks packages. Then the big ships have loads of stuff that normal resorts don't always have. Like we're going on the Ovation of the Seas for our honeymoon, and it's got skydiving, dodgems and circus school classes.

They aren't to everyones taste, but I love them! I'm hoping my OH loves them too so we can go on more together. Although it's worth noting that I know he doesn't get seasick!

If you are considering Jamaica then all I can say is... YES, DO IT!! Smiley smile

I got engaged in Jamaica last summer and regardless of the ring and question popping it was the best holiday I have ever had and will probably be difficult to beat! Generally, I find when you go to 'resorts' it is all a bit 'samey' but with Jamaica there are so many incredible experiences, activities and cultures to discover! To name a few - dunns river falls (climbing up a waterfall!), the glistening waters that is only available 4 places in the world (the water literally glows in the dark, it is amazing - google!) and there is the Mystic Mountain zipline 700m down a rainforest and of course Ricks Cafe (please google this) which is allegedly one of the best places in the world to see the sunset. The food, the people... all amazing. Please do check it out!

For info we stayed in a large resort of Lady Hamilton, Grand Palladium in a small village of Lucea, just outside Montego Bay. The most popular areas are either Montego Bay, Negril or Ochos Rios. I would probably recommend Montego Bay is there are a lot of attractions across all three of these locations but as Montego Bay is in the middle it means less travelling time all in all!

    Jamaica Jamaica Jamaica!

We have been 6 times now. Our 5th stay was our honeymoon last year. We stayed at Couples Tower Isle. Couples have 4 resorts in Jamaica. We've stayed at 3 and visited the 4th for the day twice. You really can't go wrong with any of them. They are not as grand as some of the big Mexico resorts but you really get the feel for the county. Lots of excursions you can do too It's not always wise to go out and about on your own but if you stay in negril (we stayed at Couples swept away in negril this May) you can go to the cliffs area to eat at lovely restaurants and watch the sun set onto the Caribbean Sea. Beautiful. Couples isnt cheep but includes so much you literally put you purse in the save and don't touch it until you leave. They have a no tipping policy too. Great food too. Where ever you decide have a great time. If I could give you one last tip - we had an unplugged honeymoon- no phones, no tv, no newspapers , no internet, just us.
