Honeymoon inspiration needed please!

Nicalf08, 28 February, 2012 at 18:17 Posted on Planning 0 20

I have a tension headache from spending the most part of two days thinking, researching and not coming up with anything so need some help as I have hit a wall. I want somewhere honeymoon-ey ie.quite luxurious but it has to be child friendly ie. babysitting and children's club. We're flying from geneva so are really limited as to where we can go that is a direct flight, can't go to Cyprus, turkey, some parts of Spain, Greece, and south Portugal. It is so frustrating, I've found the perfect hotels, one in cyprus, one in south Portugal but ohhhhh no can't get flights there ?

Wherever it is it needs to be no more than a 3 hour flight due to flying with a small child! Thanks :-)

What about Italy, there are some lovely places there and the Italians are very child friendly people. Not sure if you can direct flights there, but can recommend Sorrento, I so want to take H2B there.

Italy was my first thought and getting a villa but I think somewhere with more going on would be better for my son. I'm looking into Rome today! Think I may have found somewhere in Malta that seems almost ideal, has anyone been there??

I went to Malta when I was 14 and I enjoyed it, but that was a decade ago so I'm not sure how that compares to now, and I'm not sure what facilities they had for young children, but I suppose that would depend on the resort anyway.

The hotel I'm looking at has a kids club which would be brilliant for us to get a bit of rest during the day lol. I see you're from Bracknell, I'm getting married at the berystede in ascot in June! When and where are you getting married?

Italy's amazing! You could get a gorgeous little villa near Lake Garda and then take the train for day trips to Venice, Verona, Milan, Bologna... It's a beautiful, relaxing, romantic place, with great connections to big cities. Best of both worlds!

(I'm a bit biased, I've been there twice and my hubby-to-be proposed to me there!)

I would not receommend Malta, I went there about a year and a half ago. The last buses were around 7pm and most of the shops/restaurants were closed, as it was off season. We only wanted a short break to simply relax and it was fine for us but I couldn't imagine going to a place like that for a honeymoon- boredom central without the lush beaches!

Oh lol. Well we're just going for a week and in August so everything should be open and the hotel has a spa so while my son is enjoying himself in the kids club we could have a treatment or just laze by the pool. We're not the biggest fans of the beach but this hotel has a private one so it'll be alright for a change of scenery I suppose. I'll think about it.

I want to go to all those places in Italy - apart from Milan as we drove there last summer for the weekend - I just think we could do those in weekend trips and it will be nice for my oh to have a relaxing pool type holiday as his job is stressful at the moment, I barely see him!

We are looking at Lake Garda too.

Why don't you try Tuscany op, my friend goes every year with her children, they have working farms with pools, lots of things to do and places to visit locally.

I've been to Malta years ago and I've got a friend who goes with her two kids every year, it was great when I went and my friend obviously likes it as your going in peak season I wouldn't worry about it being boring!

In Venice we stayed at the hotel Metropole which was amazing, and at Lake Garda we stayed at the hotel Maximilian. The food was great and it's a small walk into Malcesine which is beautiful.

Have a look at princess yaiza in lanzarote, in playa blanca resort. https://www.princesayaiza.com/es/ and the tripadvisor reviews are good too.

we went last august for 2 weeks and dont have kids ourselves, but noticed how much stuff they have going on for kids, there were loads of kids there but hardly noticed them because there was so much to do, including 2 pools for smaller children. We stayed by the bigger pool or by the beach. So there are separate facilities for adults only! The hotel staff are really nice. would def recommend you have a look!

Thanks debs, I looked at that hotel and it looks great but there are no direct flights there from here, it's getting really frustrating! I think Malta is looking likely at the moment as it's the only place so far that has a hotel we like and can fly to. I'd like to stay somewhere in Italy but struggling to find a hotel that is perfect for what we want.

I would but my son is a pain in the ass when we fly even though we do it regularly, he makes things quite stressful so just one flight each way will do lol. I've now found la manga club in Spain and we can fly there woohoo. Need to see what the boyfriend thinks of it if he gets home at a reasonable hour after work and look at some reviews.
