Honeymoon Jan 2013 - without breaking the bank!

Kerryd1175, 2 January, 2012 at 18:27 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 10

Hi there,

We're starting to think about where we want to honeymoon after our 27th Dec wedding at the end of the year.... we want to go for 2 weeks and spend around £3000.... but this doesnt seem to go very far in 'traditional' honrymoon destinations such as the maldives...!!

Wondering if anyone has done something slightly different and maybe got a bit better value for money? We want to have some "get away from it all and do nothing" luxury ... and then maybe some time spent out and about seeing something fun.

We want to go just before new year ideally but, but maybe sometime in Jan 2013 if not...

Any ideas very welcome!!

xx

    Hey,

have you thought about Thailand or Costa Rica? lush beaches, wildlife & culture?

I think Jan, Feb, March are the best months to go!

What about a combined holiday in Europe? A beach break such as a Greek island, combined with a city break for exploring and excursions. £3000 could go a long way on that type of holiday.

    Hey,

where did u go in Thailand out of interest? that's where we're going for our honeymoon!

umm haven't been to Costa Rica but this was our original choice, researched a long time ago so can't remember the areas but we just looked through brochures and then googled and spoke to travel agents, perhaps ask on here if anyone has been?

    Hi sr3693

Aw ive been quite a few times to Thailand... its amazing!! We've been all over... I'd really suggest going to a few different islands down in the South... there's loads to choose from, it depends what you want though... koh Phi Phi is just beautiful scenery-wise (although busier these days, you mjight be able to find a quieter part if you paid a bit more - we were slumming it a bit there as we went at new year and hadn't booked!)... you have to go and see where The Beach was filmed (although go VERY early morning as loads of tourists turn up on big boats from mid morning and it ruins it, it's packed). You dont need to do a package tour, a few of us just got a local long-tail boat over there from the beach on Phi Phi for a few hundred bhat (it's not far from the inhabited island but no one lives on the island where The Beach was filmed) they will also take you on a little 'tour' of a few other islands round there. Really beautiful, the scenery is very dramatic around that island. That holiday we started in Bangkok, few days there, then to Phi Phi, then on to Koh Lanta (which is bigger but you can go to a great hippy beach which is really chilled out - or there's a busier bit if you want some life). Koh Tao is great for diving and a lovely quiet island, but I've not made it there yet. I've also heard great things about Koh Phangnan - away from the crazy area where the full moon parties are it is very beautiful, I believe there are gorgeous beaches around the other side.

If you do't fancy the islands, you could go north from Bangkok... Chang Mai is gorgeous... and I know you might be going a bit more up-market for your honeymoon, but the night sleeper train up there from Bangkok is sooo much fun!

There's really so much to choose from... let me know what you're thinking and I can maybe try and remember some more... it's been a while since I've been to some of the places... also been to koh Samui and koh Samet... oh and Koh Chang is really really beautiful!! We've always moved around a bit, but I could definitely have stayed there in one of the gorgeous beach resorts for a while Smiley smile You've really got me dreaming of Thailand again now... You will have an amazing time !!! xx

    Hi,

I do a lot of booking corporate travel booking and if you want to look for some bargains the times to look at booking travel are Jan and Sept time as they airlines / holiday companies have sales.

My OH and myself booked 12 nights in Boston through BA as a combined Flight and hotel package and paid £900 per person which was about £850 cheaper than if we had booked them separately. Worth looking at what options they have.

    Hiya,

We are hoping to go to Cancun for honeymoon, depends where you look though but some of the hotels are just absolutely amazing, i've heard good things about te Riu Palace. If you upgrade the room you can have a jacuzzi on your balcony and drinks optics in the room are filled daily. Spoke to a few people and if you email the hotel ahead they have roses and champagne and things in the room on arrival for honeymooners. We've not booked yet but with the upgrade rooms its looking to cost between £2500-£3000.

Hi we are getting married 3 weeks before you, and we are going on a Caribbean cruise! Quite good weather at that time of year, and a lovely luxry holiday. Ours is costing £3200 for us both, but that is in an upgraded cabin, and as it is over Christmas this also boosts the price up, so you would be able to get it within budget xxx
