Honeymoon / Minimoon

tonileehall, 17 January, 2012 at 12:56 Posted on Planning 0 43

Hi all,

Where have you decided to go on honeymoon? Are you having an exotic adventure or a mini trip in the UK?

I get married 25th August, and the following weekend the family are going to the paralympics (as we know someone who is representing Britain) so I didnt think there was much point going abroad for 5 days.

I have been looking at lodges with hottubs. We are from Leeds and thought is we stayed in Surrey, it is near my family and London for the paralympics.

Cannot decide whether we want to them go away maybe October time.

Morocco. Not so much of an 'exotic adventure' just a week away to de-stress, relax and take in what just happened! We then plan to save for a bigger holiday next year, thoughts at present are Kenyan safari.

Lodges with hot tubs sound good, romantic too. A holiday in October would then give you something else to look forward to I guess.

Hi I am getting married in June this year.

We are staying in a local hotel for a couple of nights and then going Monday to Friday to the Lake District in a lovely luxury cottage.

In December we are going on honeymoon for Christmas in New York!

We’re having a mini-moon for 4 nights after we get married. We work for a holiday company so booked a cottage through work, we’re staying just outside York in an amazing property with hot tub and a tennis court! I can’t wait!!

We don’t want to get in debt with the wedding so we booked what we could afford, then we’ve asked for money or vouchers for our abroad honeymoon as a wedding gift so hopefully we’ll get a cheap deal to the sun!

We having a mini moon the weekend after the wedding. Its 3 nights staying in North Yorkshire in a log cabin with a hot tub and bbq.

We would love to have done the big honeymoon but we're going to book up later in the year and take the kids with us.

We're having a minimoon too. 3 night break in Manchester so H2B can get his Man U fix and we're going to some museums etc.

Then we're saving for a proper honeymoon, probably around our first anniversary, which again will be nothing exotic as money won't allow. We're thinking of somewhere like Malta. H2B has never been abroad before so he's a bit daunted by it all ?

We're going to Cyprus because neither of us has ever been so it will be somewhere new for us both to explore. Not very exotic, but when we get back we'll saving hard as OH wants to go to Brazil for the World cup in 2014

We had a couple of weeks at home after the wedding (christmas time) and then spent new year in edinburgh for hogmonay as our minimoon.

we are planning on going to majorca for our honeymoon - nothing exotic but at least a honeymoon.

    We had/are having both.

We went here for the week after the wedding and we're shortly off to New Zealand and Singapore for almost three weeks.

Here is a little article that was published for me, about some of our favourite UK based mini-moon locations - some not far from Surrey at all! http://lilguyweddings.blogspot.com/2011/12/buttercup-bus.html

    We are a bit different!

We are having a pre-honeymoon in March which is a road trip to the west coast of America for 16 nights. The increase in cost to go in July was ridiculous, so my logic is to go in March and get away for a week somewhere in Europe after the wedding all for the same price!

We're not having a honeymoon as we can't afford one and any money we get as gifts is going to be used for a new boiler and central heating (god I sound boring!)

Maldives...Seychelles.....Bali... some lovely destinations But alas, I doubt I'll be seeing any of them as I have 18 month old and can't stand the though of leaving her for more than 2 or 3 nights, and just wouldn't be the same going somewhere like that with a 2 yr old who just wants to run around and get into mischief!

So I think a minimoon it will be for us aswell, I quiet fancy a weekend in Paris or Rome, but H2B has been to both :-( Any other ideas out there for a minimoon which is Europe based?

Salzburg in Austria is gorgeous and romantic been there 6 times.

Also Stockholm is lovely if you like a modern city mixed with older historic houses. ?

We're going on a 2 week Mediterranean cruise the month after the wedding, so we have time to come down from the day and give us ample time to pack etc!

We could've done without the extra spend but as we're starting a family after the wedding it was our last holiday as a couple without kids and we wouldn't have felt right not having it ?

We're spending 2 nights at a posh spa hotel locally (the first hotel we went to together, and the first place we said we loved each other ❤️ and we've managed to book the same room, too) and then will spend a further 4 nights elsewhere in the UK but haven't booked anything (and probably won't until very last minute).

We're then going to spend another week honeymooning from home - going to our favourite local haunts, visiting local treasures that we have never actually experienced because, let's face it, who does the touristy thing in their own area?!

Our main honeymoon though, is hopefully going to be a week in Feb 2013 Northern Light hunting, skiing, dog-sledding etc in Finland or similar. This is very money dependent as we're focusing on the wedding first and then will have to try and save. We're considering asking for contributions as wedding gifts but I HATE the idea of asking for money (especially for something we haven't booked / can't book until we know IF we can afford it).

Oooh Laura, I'd love to pick your brains at some point - we're leaning towards Lapland in Feb but don't know where to start to give us the best experience for the best value as we'll be on a tight budget! Any suggestions?

    I'm happy to help.

Try to avoid Christmas, end of January/beginning of February (Finnish school holidays) and Easter. Those are the most expensive times. If you don't like or don't want to do skiing stay as far away from them as possible. The closer to the slopes you are = more expensive.

Don't book anything through Finnish agents because they rip you off. Thomson does very well priced packages.

    It's a truly magical place. I've been about 6 times. ?
