Honeymoon on a budget that doesn't revolve round beaches. Any ideas?

markandkatieswedding, 27 August, 2013 at 22:42 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 6

Hi,

My partner and I aren't sure where to go on our honeymoon. We not sun worshippers although we would like it to be warm. We not bothered about the beach although if a beach was near by then it wouldn't be a bad thing. We both like being active such as walking and cycling and I love animals. We're on a tight budget as well, but would really like to go somewhere abroad. We've been to Italy, France and Florida together so we want somewhere thats different to those places. We like the sound of Canada but it seems very expensive.

Has anyone got any ideas for where we could go? it would be much appreciated.

We looked at Canada for our Wedding and honeymoon but it got out of hand with car hire and cost of flights so we ruled it out too.

We then looked at Kenya but that was even more expensive. I would have said Italy but you have already been so how about something else we looked at….

We were going to take a train journey around Europe like Michael Portillo recently did – The Bradshaw Guide. Looked amazing, Poland, Switzerland, Germany etc. you can spend as long as you like in each place and go cycling, horse riding, skiing, the salt mines in Poland. We only ruled it out as we wanted to get married abroad too and it meant getting all our documents translated and notorised so we went somewhere English speaking instead.

What about somewhere like Croatia or Montenegro? Beaches nearby but also good hiking/outdoor options.

Depends on what a tight budget means but have you thought about Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand? There's loads to do and see and it works out quite good value for money compared with places like Canada/New Zealand. Also what time of year were you thinking?

Out of the South East Asia options I feel Indonesia might be too expensive, but Thailand or Vietnam would work and are both lovely. In Thailand you do scuba diving if you also like underwater animals! (Great place for beginners and a good price).

Croatia sounds like a great option. I would also consider Spain - there are some beautiful places inland, I have been to the North near Girona (stunning scenery and great food) and I'm sure the Pyrenees would make for some awesome walking/hiking!
