Honeymoon Report with pics.

Here's my honeymoon report at last!?..we've been home over 2 weeks!

After getting married on the Saturday we headed off to Dubai on the Monday. We flew with Emirates and the flight was fantastic - ate loads of food and watched loads of films. I think one of the cabin crew took a shining to Mark...he kept coming over talking to him and giving him loads of ice creams - totally ignoring me ?, he could've given us free drinks instead!

We arrived at the hotel (Hilton Dubai Creek) and they'd decorated the bed with swan towels. The room was lovely but we went straight to bed ?...as it was the early hours of the morning! The next day we wandered down the creek, hired a boat to take us up and down the creek (luckily we didn't end up in it)...it was great haggling for prices!

We then walked round the gold souk...I was hankering after a diamond bracelet but didn't get one ?. We then went back to the hotel and had some drinks at the roof top pool bar - the views were amazing!

That night we had a meal at Gordon Ramsay's Verre which was in our hotel. The meal was delicious! ?

The next day we went down to the Emirates towers and did a bit of shopping then back to the hotel for a bit of sunbathing. We were picked up by a white Lexus at 7pm for one of our wedding presents. The car took us to the Burj Al Arab hotel for our 'culinary flight'. We were whisked off to the skyview bar which is suspended off the top of the hotel in a little pod. The views were amazing! We chose a course for each of teh restaurants and also wine to match. We had our first course in the restaurant adjacent to the sky bar..I had lobster bisque ?. The manager of the restaurant took us down to the next restaurant once we'd finished that course. We went from restaurant to restaurant eating a course in each until we reached the 'underwater' restaurant where we finished off with a steak surrounded by fishes! I was quite drunk aswell by this time as we'd had a large glass of vino with each course!

After the meal we went to a bar called 360 bar and had some cocktails.

WE had one more night in Dubai then we went to the Maldives. After quite a lonf flight (we had to go via Colombo) we arrived at Male airport. Getting through immigration was a nightmare. We picked the slowest queue ever! It was that slow that people who got off a flight after us made it through before us!

We were met by a rep from the hotel and whisked off onto a speedboat and given cold towels and a refreshing drink. The journey took around 25 minutes before we arrived in Paradise. We stayed at the Banyan tree and it was wonderful. We were shown round the island then we went for an amazing lunch.

WE were booked in for a 3 hour couples massage later that afternoon. It was bliss...especially as we were so tired after being awake for more than 24 hours. I was that relaxed that I woke myself up snoring! ?

We just chilled out for the whole week...reading, snorkelling, eating and drinking. One night we had a private dinner on a sandbank in the midle of the ocean - we had to get a speedboat there! It was unforgettable, truly amazing!

During the dinner when it turned dark, loads of crabs descended onto the beach! I was a bit freaked out but the waiters built a sand wall round us so they couldn't come and run accross our feet. One crab did managed to get over the wall but when I used my camera to light it up we discovered that it was 2 crabs ..and they were They were obviously on their honeymoon too ?

The food at the Banyan tree was magnificent, I still miss it. <insert saddo icon>. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to go back. Here's some more pics if you're interested:

Oooh what a fabby honeymoon you had! It all looked amazing. One year on I think I miss being on honeymoon (the Maldives too) more than I miss my wedding day ?

Banyan Tree is on our list of other islands to do when we go next so it was lovely to see it is as stunning as the brochure says it is. I think once you have been to the Maldives, it spoils it for future holiday destinations as you really are truly spoilt while you are there. I want to go back!

I'd definitely recommend the maldives - it was paradise on earth! I'm already planning my next trip.?

Laura Lee - we stayed at Banyan tree vabbinfaru. They do have another one but it's about £6k each per week ?

Miss Kitty - didn't you stay at Royal Island? I remember seeing your report and it looked amazing! I sooooo want to go back but wouldn't know which island to pick. I know it might sound strange to some people, but I don't think I'd like a water villa - I loved being able to walk into the sea and move my sunlounger around as much as I liked ?

Kath we did stay at Royal and we loved every second of it! One of the reasons we chose that island was because we also didn't want a water villa (H more than me) and I didn't want to go to an island that had a 'them and us' (standard side & posh side) divide because if I could not afford the posh suites, I would have had room envy, and you can't have that on your honeymoon can you ?. On Royal, they are all the same standard and all the same style ?

We desperately want to go back too and would also have a real struggle choosing a new island. It is so tempting to go back to the same one as you know you loved it, but there are so many beautiful little islands out there that it would be a shame not to try them out! I really like the look of Anantara, but I think that maybe quite a bit more expensive!

    Hi Jo

Totally agree! ? WE upgraded to a beach front but there were also deluxe beachfront - I spent ages walking round wondering what the differences were and I really couldn't find any!

Have you considered Angsana? It's a sister property to the Banyan and you can see if from the banyan - it's supposed to be lovely. We might consider it next time. x

My best friend honeymooned in the Maldives in July and had fab weather. We went in September (which is meant to be not very good at all) and had the most fantastic weather. It rained twice but that was at night. The only thing that spoilt was that we had to eat inside rather than besides the ocean, which is where we ate the other 12 night we were there!

This year, we went on holiday to Texas in August, their hotest and dryest time of the year and it rained for 80% of it! I also know a couple who went to teh Maldives in January and had quite iffy weather.

The worlds weather is so unpredictable these days that I honestly think it can sometimes just be pot luck!

And Kath, we did look at that island and it looks lovely, that is also on our long list of maybe's! There are so many to choose from!
