Honeymoon suggestions please! (with a twist)

jjsmum, 26 April, 2011 at 11:34 Posted on Planning 0 16

Well not really a twist, more like complications - 1) we have a little boy who will be 2 and who will be coming with us so there are obvious restrictions but also want somewhere hot but not too hot for him! 2) On a bit of a budget - looking to spend £1000 on travel & accommodation

I've found some flights to Venice which are reasonable, also thinking Normandy as we can drive there but I've been there twice in the last year on trips with my parents, also thinking UK but not sure what would be special enough!

Thank you!!!

We're very open in terms of what type of holiday - beach, city, countryside are all fine! Turkey would be our 1st choice in fact but it'll be BOILING in July and I think my little boy (and me!) might melt!!!

In all honesty i would probably suggest cornwall or devon! I love it down there it is beautiful and there are some gorgeoud beaches with out ll the complicatons of taking a young child abroad for your budget you could get a lovely cottage near the beach and treat yourselves to some top notch meals out too plus there is things to do like the eden project etc

Another UK suggestion would be Centerparcs - lots to do for all ages, plus they have a creche if you want to enjoy some adult time!

Other ideas would be either Disneyland Paris (suitable for all and not too far) or a villa/cottage rental somewhere in Europe - if you look on independent villa owner sites you can pick up real bargains, and then it's just flights/car hire on top x

Ooh I'm liking the thought of a cottage in Cornwall...definitely a maybe! Annoying thing is we get married on the Friday, then we're off work until 2 Friday's later. Ideally we'd like to do a Weds-Weds holiday but most cottages are from Sat or Monday which then leaves us almost a week at home. Hmm, god I'm a moaner aren't I!!!

Disneyland Paris sounds a mare to me sorry!!! I'm sure my boy would love it but noooooo! ?

Gozo (is that spelt right?) - never heard of it but sounds luuuuuverly...going to check it out now!

    Thank you again all!

I think for the sake of your littlun, a UK break is the best as the weather will be perfect for you all, but if you really do want to travel abroad then stay high up, and make sure you choose a short-haul flight as little ones can get restless. Somewhere like Italy, Sicily is really nice for culture, beaches and lots of fantastic scenery! The weather is beautiful in July and not unbearable. The south of France is also lovely. If you want even cooler weather than what Southern France, Turkey and Italy have to offer then you're best of staying in this country. Turkey and Egypt are great during August/September months and beyond as the weather subsides slightly and so do the tourists.

HTH. Sorry if it doesn't. It's hard without knowing what you're ultimately looking for as there are so many places you could go. The Canary Islands are also good and lots to see and do. If you want to try and keep out of the sun mostly then a city break or something along those lines is the best thing to go for and there'll be plenty to do.. you could take one day out of your trip to visit the coast and spend the day on the beach splashing in the water. If you want city breaks then Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Venice, Madrid.. Even Dublin, Edinburgh, Cardiff!

Cornwall is beautiful.. my Mum lives down there and I am lucky enough to be able to visit and stay for free (in Mums spare room) about 4 times a year. It's beautiful and loads to see and do.. I would recommend it as the beaches are lovely. My favourite places are St Ives, The Lizard point, Fowey, Torbay and you could even jump on a boat and head over to the Isles of Scilly on a day trip! I've been there too.. your little boy will love the boat trip, although it may be a little rocky as they are flat-bottom boats.. or you could go via helicopter!! lol.

Oh my, that place in Gozo looks soooo romantic and rural and charming and gorgeous!!! I'll check out flights Smiley winking

Also rather liking the Cornwall idea for ease of getting there. Just found a nice house but it said it was £1200 for a week, whaaaaat?! Found some other ones for much more reasonable prices though. Thanks for the tips on places too. I've been to St Ives before and loved it and I'll check the other places out too. It would be good cos we'd save on flights that way?

    Hi - with a 2yr old, i'd avoid Venice!

It's a beautiful place, however you will walk and walk and walk. Fab, but if you have to get a buggy over all the bridges and steps, you'll be knackered!!

    You're right - Venice was a nice thought but a no-no with a 2 year old!
