Honeymoon - Where?!

ebarton24, 19 August, 2013 at 13:53 Posted on Planning 0 10

Although the OH and I have been together for 4 years we have never been abroad together - too busy buying house and now wedding! So we have no idea of where to go...

We are trying to research honeymoon locations but we are really struggling with this - so far this has been the hardest part of the wedding!

My OH is a little bit of a fussy eater (doesnt like seafood, tapas kinda of food - hes a meat and potato kind of man!) and the thought of going somewhere where they don’t speak English stresses him out - so I’m thinking the states or something like that.

I don’t think we would do well on a beach/relaxing holiday as i think we would both get bored and would need to go sightseeing.

We like the idea a half the honeymoon in New York and the rest of the honeymoon in San Francisco but both these places are really expensive £2000+ each!

We have a budget of about £1500-£2500 for the both of us. we don’t really want to spend much more than that as we would really like to move to a bigger house when we are married and start a family so any money we get as gift from our wedding we would like to put towards our future family home.

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations about where we could look at?

When are you thinking of going as that will play a big part in affordability and weather conditions of certain destinations.

Also does your budget include spending money?

When do you plan on going? What about Australia, you can get lucky and get cheap flights if you look around. You could then go sightseeing in Oz, climb the Sydney Harbour bridge etc. Food is lovely and they speak english :-)

Sorry forgot about that! Middle of May but we are happy to wait a few weeks/months for honeymoon - doesnt need to be right after wedding.

Budget is just for flights and accommodation

Were going to Florida - doing a week in orlando - theme parks etc the driving down to Miami for a couple of days and then a few days in key west.

We are the same as you and didnt just want to be sat on a beach for 2 weks so this is a combintaion. America is good in terms of food as well if your man is a fussy eater!

To do all that is probably overbudget but you could look at something similar perhaps?

Or what about the carribean? You may be able to get a deal at a really lovely luxurious resort with good food etc? xxx

We're travelling round the USA west coast for 16 nights, all hotels/flights/car hire/tickets/spending money is costing 5k so I'm guessing you could do some part of this to fit your budget. We've booked everything ourselves though and used all the comparison sites for hotels etc, I would guess going through an agent would cost more.

Just some input as we currently live in Australia it is not cheap when you are here in terms of spending money so just be careful in your planning, check the cost of the activities you want to do, places you want to go.

We are going to Switzerland and staying near the Swiss Alps. Having a couple of nights in the city and then booking a lodge for the rest of the time. Flights work out at about £400 for both of use and the lodge we are hiring is £450. Excited!!!

How about a cruise? You get to see lots of different places then but most cruises also have a day at sea where you can relax a bit! The cruises I have been on have a wide variety of food, including 'english' food and if you go with an English cruise line then everything is in English. Obviously depending on where you go, the ports may not speak English but you could always go on tours with the cruise company. It should be do-able in your price range as well!

OH and I are currently trying to sort our honeymoon and a bit like your OH mine wants to go somewhere where they speak English, etc!

At the moment we are thinking of doing 3 nights Toronto, 2 nights Niagara Falls and then getting the Maple Leaf Train to New York for 4 nights ;-)

We have priced it all up ourselves [buying flights and accommodation directly, not using a travel agent] and at the moment it is coming in at around £2800 mark with 4* hotels so you might be able to do something like this with just slightly cheaper hotels?

You might have already looked here but if not, the best website we found for doing multi destination flights was eDreams, it is really helpful so might be worth a look ;-)
