honeymoon worries

vikmast, 6 September, 2011 at 22:18 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hello everyon, well the big day is nearly here and i am so excited xx however i am worrying so much about our honeymoon. we are goin to turkey and ive read that people have said its fine there, however have just checked th fco website and there is very high risks of terrorist attacks in any part of turkey, yet we havnt heard anything from out travel agents first choice. is this just a precautionary measure or is it really unsafe to go?? surely first choice would have told us not to go if it was too dangerous. if anyone has any info or has just got back please let me know

If you actually look into terror threats you will see that its always on high alert, this whole country has been on the 2nd highest alert since 9/11 but we've lived with it for 10 years. I would think if there was actual cause for concern you most definately would have been recommended to go elsewhere.

They have only recommended not travelling to certain parts, the rest of the country is deemed safe, but be vigilant.

This advice has been reviewed and reissued with an amendment to the Local Laws & Customs section (removal of reference to Ramadan 2011). The overall level of the advice has not changed; we continue to advise against all but essential travel to the provinces of Hakkari, Sirnak, Siirt and Tunceli.

You can't predict where trouble will happen, look at the London riots!

I am sure it will be fine, I know 3 separate couples who have all been there in the last month or so and all were fine.

I would'nt worry. We're off there for a holiday next week and aren't bothered. I've travelled to far more dodgy countries in my time and never had any problems (well, a few, but only in "safe" countries such as getting held up at gunpoint in Bulgaria, but hey, I digress....) so I'd never worry about a tourist-trap area like the Turkish beaches. As someone else said, the whole point of terrorism is that no-one knows when or where trouble will strike next, so to let if affect your plans is a waste of time Smiley smile
