Honeymooning in Mexico

Mrsjones2024, 31 May, 2016 at 18:54 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi all,

OH and I are thinking of honeymooning in Mexico.

I have been before, but this was about 8 years ago and to Cancun.

OH needs to be constantly entertained so Mexico seems like a good idea, and he would love to go.

The hotel that we are interested in is Sensimar Seaside Suites and Spa in Riveria Maya. All rooms have jacuzzis as standard and we are looking at upgrading to a swim up room as a treat.

Does anyone have any experience of this hotel? Or any recommendations in Mexico? It will have to be adults only with a bit of luxury!

Thanks in advance X

It's a lovely resort. Nice choice for a honeymoon. What time of year are you going as the summer months are very hot. Lots or little to do depending on how much you want to join in and easy access to playa del Carmen, tulum, akumel if you want to get off the resort. We liked it in the evening as they had an evening show but then had live music round the open air bar that has swings around. OH played lots of volleyball which he loves and I loved watching the sun go down and the Pelicans diving in the water. Enjoy. X

We went to the Excellence Playa Mujeres which was awesome. Adults only, gorgeous rooms and awesome service. I did ALOT of research and we'd go back in a heartbeat!

Thank you both for your advice. I am now torn between the two! The Sensimar has a swim up room but the Excellence is closer to Cancun....decisions, decisions! We are going on 4th July x

We've not long been back from the Catalonia Royal Tulum and we'd go back in a heartbeat. It's probably not as luxurious at the Sensimar (as far as I can tell from the decription) but we found it so luxurious, relaxing and just beautiful! It was adults only, very small and quiet. Our room was beautiful, the resort was beautiful and the service was excellent. I didn't want to come home.

I've stayed at the excellence as well as the senismar. I did like both and the excellence is lovely and luxurious but I preferred the senismar. The beach was nicer and the food was just as good at both. I prefer player del Carmen to Cancun for an evening off resort which you are closer too and you are closer to Tulum and Ackumel which are both lovely to visit. You can even get the boat over to Cozumel from player del Carmen. I thought the Sensimar was more tropical and laid back than the excellence and as a said we loved the bar in the evening with the swings around and live music. You won't go wrong at either. Enjoy. X

We've just returned from a 10 night stay at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba in Tulum (although we had kids). Amazing place, the staff, resort and everything all-round was brilliant. We're already looking at booking again for next year. They have another hotel which is more luxurious - Grand Bahia Principe Akumal which might be more suited for honeymoon. xx

Thanks everyone. We booked our honeymoon! We went for the Excellence Playa Mujeres. (Thanks for the tip Laura Ellen). I preferred the location (closer to Cancun and a shorter transfer time) and the trip advisor reviews seemed better. We splashed out on an Excellence Club room and Premium economy flights. Only 394 days to wait until we go, so excited! ?

For anyone thinking of booking the sensimar seaside suites all I can say is DO IT!!!! We are just back from the most amazing 2weeks honeymoon. We had he premium junior swim up suite and it did not disappoint neither did the hote I just loved the fact u got table service at each restaurant. The staff were amazing and just all in all an amazing holiday! I recommend doing the trip to Sian ka'an however for those in cancun I am not sure if that trip is available as its a full day from Rivera maya and cancun is at least an extra hour. Also coco bongos either cancun or Rivera maya is a must! Definitely go gold member though! Enjoy Mexico ladies. ??

My sister and cousin both did adults only to Mexico and thoroughly enjoyed it.

However, Sister was a bit gutted as they were going to try for a LO on honeymoon but it was booked before the Zika outbreak so here doctor advised her against it ?

Ahh how exciting! I hope you have a lovely time.

We were warned about the Zika virus but we aren't going to try until 2018. We want to go on safari first and travel around Thailand! X
