Honeymoon/Mini-moon help - should we stay in UK?

pink_tink, 31 August, 2011 at 22:40 Posted on Planning 0 13

We only have 4 days due to work commitments for our honeymoon! (We could go on a longer holiday later in the year if we choose to) So we were thinking of staying in the UK but staying somewhere special or a bit different...Is there anyone who has any ideas of where we could go or what we could do?Alternatively, maybe somewhere close to an airport and around 2 hour flight from UK.

Basically I have no clue what so ever and H2B not being very helpful! Has any one any good ideas for a mini moon?

Thank you!

Oh, sorry! Our nearest airport would be Liverpool or Manchester. If we stay in UK we don`t mind driving for a few hours, maybe up to 4. x

For 4 days away you simply can not beat Rome. You can fly there in just over 2hrs directly from Liverpool John Lennon airport with RyanAir, cheap as chips! Get the train directly from Ciampino airport into centre of Rome (Termini station) then on to your hotel. Or the taxis in Rome have a special rate of Euro30 direct from Ciampino to anywhere within the city walls ? I just got back from a 4 day trip there last week and had an amazing time, can't wait to go back for the thrid time!

For four days i would stay in the UK. If you were flying that would take up at least one and a half to two days of your four days.

    The lake district is lovely.

Or northumberland, particularly along hadrians wall area and the northumberland coast line. We've spent a lot of time in both areas and can recommend a lovely but slightly basic cottage near Hexham at Hadrian's Wall. (nothing particularly luxurious but it has an open log fire and a lovely kingsize bed!)

Although i second the suggestion of Rome. Also Barcelona is lovely. A proper city break, we did it for my 18th birthday. We flew out first thing on the thursday morning and arrived home on the monday afternoon.

    Thanks everyone.

Think we are going to go the morning after our wedding so that we can do 2 nights in the Lakes and then 3 nights in Scotland. Has anyone got any suggestions for accommodation? We were thinking of maybe a spa hotel, although I do like the idea of a yurt!

Rome or the Algarve were our abroad choices, but I think we may be able to do this 2 months later for a week - so if anyone has any suggestions for these then let me know that too!

Thanks so much to all you helpful hitchers - as always! I love this place!

Prague and Budapest are both amazing cities if you wanted to go abroad and you can see lots in 4 days!

Thanks everyone. We think we have decided on a cottage in the lakes IF we can get one for 2-3 nights. Maybe here https://www.monkhousehill.co.uk/index.html Following on from this would be 3 nights at this hotel.../.

    What do you think?

Finally, 2 months after the wedding we will go to Rome for a few nights :-) Has anyone got any hotels they could recommend? Not too far from the airport?

Thank you for your help! :-)

Have you considered the Bonham? It's beautiful, central enough to be a 10 minute stroll from George St, but feels far enough away to be honeymoon-ish.

I would not recommend staying near the airport. Each day to and from the hotel you'll be reliant on the hotel's shuttles which often stop early evening or paying 30Euros+ for taxis. You'd be much better off finding a deal in the centre. We stayed at Best Western Canada hotel one night. It's walking distance from termini station although not through through the nicest area to be honest, it's pretty rough. Once you're there though you're around the corner from a metro station which is invaulable after a long hot day of sightseeing and you just want to get back to your bed!! We also stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri but that is on the wrong side of the Tiber and a bit of a mission to get to once the shuttles have stopped (cost us approx 12-17Euros each time in a taxi) it was beautiful though. La Minerva is slap bang in the centre of Rome, right next to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, we ate at the rooftop restaurant and it was absolutely spectacular, we didn't see any rooms as we didn't stay there but everything else seemed really nice, lovely staff. Don't even bother with Palazzo Manfredi (with rooftop restaurant Aroma) despite it's amazing location the staff are shockingly bad!
