honeymoons?

irrelephant, 9 July, 2011 at 17:19 Posted on Planning 0 21

Where's everyone off to? We can't decide.

My uncle has just offered to pay for a week in his timeshare for us, if we pay for the flights and spending money (obviously). We can go pretty much anywhere in the world but it won't be blatant luxury, it will just be basics. What do people think? We think its very lovely of him to offer and we're not exactly lying on a beach in the maldives type people anyway. But I like my own space (and own swimming pool if i can get it!) because my parents always rented private villas rather than resort type holidays so a bit worried i'll hate it.

Plus, where do we go at the very beginning of September?

I'm not a lying on the beach type either so I know how you feel. We did look at the Maldives, because it's beautiful but I was worried that after a week we'd no longer be speaking to each other!

Our honeymoon is early September too, but next year. We're going to Disneyworld in Florida - I know it's not to everyone's taste, but it's a surprise for OH as he never went as a kid and has always wanted too. I'm not telling him til the wedding!! I figure america is a good choice even without it being Disney as there's so much to do there!

I'm sorry I'm not much good with suggestions, I hope someone comes along with an idea that takes your fancy Smiley smile

I'm not a "laying on beach type" either, so we'll be going to NY

We'll be having our honeymoon in early August and we're planning on a mini tour of Italy starting in Venice and visiting Verona, Rome, possibly Naples and ending up on the Amalfi coast. That's if the budget stretches!!! x

We got married in Santorini, Greece in early september. Its beautiful, dead small so easy to hire a car and get about the island with loads of little harbours and villages.

We arent really into just lying about, but at the same time we arent dead active - we went on a trip to climb the volcano, a few boat trips and drove about finding random villages to have lunch in!

Blonde Viki, that when ours will be too, Sept 2012. But Uncle has asked us to start looking now, so he can get it sorted.

America, especially Florida, is going on our list, although someone said to me hurricane season is September-ish? don't want that to ruin Florida for us!

I've also just discovered that you can get remote little holiday cottages to rent, like the ones my parents used to rent through the Time Share thing, in Italy and France so will also look at those. Flights will also be cheaper than florida!

Greece, also an option. Have always wanted to go there!

    More suggestions welcome!

We're getting married in April and have decided to go to Germany and do a tour of the Rhineland! We're on a relatively small budget (£1500), so somewhere exotic or far flung is out of the question. I can't wait though - lots of picturesque castles and lots of bierkellers and wurst! But maybe that's just us!

Ah that sounds like what Mr DWC would like to do. He really wants to go the German countryside, but not sure i'm keen personally. Also think it might be getting a bit on the chilly side in September.

We're definitely not the type to just sunbathe and lie on the beach all day either, so whilst we love the look of the maldives, we decided that it'd be too quiet for us!

We're getting married in April, going on honeymoon at the end of the month for two weeks and we've decided on:

-Cancun 5 nights for the culture and history, mayan temples/ruins, interactive aquarium (you can swim with the dolphins, touch sea urchins etc), water park, snorkelling and investigating caves, horse back riding in the jungle, clubbing in Cancun, exploring the old town etc etc, so much to do!

    - Miami 2 nights, bit of a city break, neither of us have been and we have to go stop over here in order to get to our final destination, not 100% sure what we're going to do here yet, might learn to surf! Exploring, maybe some shopping and bars.

    - Montego Bay (Jamaica) 7 nights, quite a few similar things to Cancun, dolphins, jungle, beach, surf, canoeing, cayaking, wind surfing, water skiing, paragliding, bob marley's house, water parks, deep sea fishing, dunn's river falls, natural spring, zip wiring through the jungle, horse riding tours etc etc, argh, got to stop now, getting too excited... ? ? ?

Oh in my excitement, I forgot to say, this will be our chill out destination, lol, so we may well do some sun bathing and lounging about the place here :o

We're hoping to go to Croatia and spend two weeks travelling along the coast there. It's supposed to be very beautiful and there is scuba diving there which I want to do!

What's your budget if you don't mind me asking? I would have thought that our honeymoon would cost more than the quotes that we're getting back, so you never know.

Also, if you're interested in similar, you could do a dual centre trip instead of a three centre trip? I know that they do indirect flights to mexico and jamaica via miami, so you could do either mexico or jamaica with miami, or just one of them.

To help subsidise the trips, i'm going to have a gift list website with options of just cash gifts, gifts that contribute to trips we want to do etc

Hannioli, probably less than a grand. I would say £800 at the most as we are on a pretty tight budget, so something like yours is probably out of budget Smiley sad

My uncle offering to pay for the accommodation is a massive help. I've been looking at Italy and it looks so lovely. We're going to Rome in 9 weeks so we'll see what we think then. I think the honeymoon gift list is a good idea.

What is Greece like? I've never been.

I love greece, but some islands are more greek than others!

My favourites are Skiathos, Santorini, Zanti, Symi and Kefalonia.....would love to go to Mykonos as well.

Some of the Resorts are quite English....just come back from Sidari in Corfu and it wasnt really for me ?

Oh that's awesome, what a honeymoon!! Italy is my most favourite place ever!! We went to Rome then drove to Sorrento via Naples for my 30th birthday and visited Amalfi whilst we were there. We also got engaged in Venice! It's such a wonderful, exciting, beautiful country, full of history and so much to see and do. Not been to Verona yet but it's on the list!

We're getting married in Rome and for our honeymoon we're hiring a classic Italian car and driving up to Florence via Pisa with some nice little detours through chianti country ?
