Honeymoons, where you going and how did you decide?

Little.Miss-Scatterbrain, 18 March, 2009 at 21:08 Posted on Planning 0 27

We're really struggling to decide where to go! initally it was las vegas all the way, now after looking at the maldives we're swinging towards that and then you think dont be so stupid spending all that money on one holiday and we think we'll just go to one of the greek islands instead. ARGHHHH......decisions, decisions, decisions!!!! let me know how you guys decided?

We are going to Paris. It is one of our favorite places, and dont feel like we need to do a tropical island type affair. We are going to save up to do a holiday to Japan in a year or so after

I sooo could have wrote this post myself - and we are date twins too!

We were originally thinking Vegas and Hawaii, but now thinking Hawaii isn't paradisey enough, but still really want to do Vegas. We've now decided that Vegas for 3 nights, followed by 10-12 nights in Thailand is our dream HM. This is being priced up fo us now, but we knowthis is going to cost a ridiculous amount (especially with the $/£ exchange rate). So then we are back to either Vegas and Hawaii, or somewhere like Hong Kong, followed by Thailand. (And then do Vegas for a holiday next year? maybe?)

So I'm no help to you whatsoever, but at least you know you're not alone in this dilemma.

We're going to New York and Las Vegas. Both places we've always wanted to go. Originally I thought of somewhere paradise-like, with just a beach and us! But OH would get bored after a couple of days and we wanted it to be something we'd both enjoy and remember. As we're going on honeymoon in August we should hopefully still get to enjoy good weather. In Vegas we're staying at Caesars Palace so hopefully we can chill out by the pool for a couple of days, giving us some relaxation (and sunbathing) time! TBH the trip has probably cost us a much as going to the maldives or somewhere similar but we want it to be something we'll really remember, so hopefully it'll be worth it!

We're having 4 nights in Singapore & 10 nights in Bali. We wanted to do something special for our honeymoon & I've never been to the far east. We took advice from the travel agent about the best places to go for the things we wanted to do & the hotels etc that were in our budget.

We're thinking San Diego, then Hawaii, and then New York on the way back.

I delegated the research to my H2B. He wants to go to the US, and we thought we're never likely to go as far as Hawaii again.

It took h2b ages to find somewhere as May/June is a bad time to go to heaps of places but we have eventually booked 11 nights in Borneo and 4 in Dubai. Borneo is my TOTAL dream destination and I never thought we would be able to go so I'm very very excited. My mum thinks I'll stay out there in the forest though and not come back ? ...iIf only!

To do - florist, order BM dresses, get the rest of my outfit, such as underwear, shoe, veil, tiara. Make invitations, I have a prototype and have bought all the card, ribbons etc, just need to actually make them. Oh, and obviously HM! h2b is meant to be sorting this but it's more of a joint effort at the moment.

    How about you?

Probably easier to write down what i have done, booked the venues, have my dress, have chosen the invites, just to order them now. fil2b is organising the band. sorting out the flowers and menus etc at the end of the month.

We're taking a year out and going travelling round the world for our (very long) honeymoon! Starting in Russia, then taking the trans-siberian railway to China, then going to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Oz, NZ and South America. Can't wait!xxx

I'm so jealous - I would absolutely love to do this. Even 3 months would do.

Originally, we wanted somewhere like the Maldives too - I remember seeing another Hitcher's honeymoon pics and being absolutely blown away, love the idea of those huts in the middle of the sea! Pure paradise! But then when we sat down to do the wedding budget more thoroughly we realised we probably wouldn't be able to afford it. So I suggested Italy - it's somewhere I've never been but have always wanted to go, it's one of the most romantic and beautiful places in Europe and there are some absolutely stunning places to stay without breaking the bank as much. So I think it's about 90% likely to be perhaps Sardinia, Sorrento or Sicily - we'll probably look to book it late summer time this year.

We picked Domaincian as I have always wanted to go to the caribeen, and they flew from Manchester on the Monday after the wedding and it didn't break the bank to much.

As others have said I would have loved to go to the maldives but I couldn't jutify spending so much, maybe in a few years time when we have abit more money.

Our original honeymoon was different than the one that we ended up going on because the company that we booked with went into administration 2 weeks before we were due to fly out.

We should have been going to Orlando Florida for 3 weeks going to the theme parks and swimming with dolphins in Discovery Cove.

We should have been staying here https://www.comfortsuitesfl.com/

In the end because we only had 2 weeks to sort out our honeymoon we ended up with 2 weeks rather than 3 in Orlando, still went to all the theme parks and swam with the dolphins in discovery cove but instead of staying in the hotel we ended up in a villa.

We are doing 4 nights in Kuala Lumpur and 10 nights in Penang. We decided on this by discounting just about every other country in the world. We both wanted to go to Las Vegas and then do a beach holiday afterwards but couldn't agree on where, he didn't fancy Hawaii and I refuse to go to the Caribbean during hurricane season as I was in Mexico during a Category 5 one a few years ago and won't take the chance again. He ruled out mainland USA, I refused the Maldives as I'd be bored after 2 days, neither of us wanted Europe as it wasn't 'exotic' enough......and so it went on for months. Malaysia was the only country we could agree on.

WEES re maldives - we would have loved to go, but just couldn't afford it, especially cos we are going in august.

we fancied a driving holiday in the usa but h2b hasn't passed his test yet and needs to have passed for a year before he could drive a hire car. like CD, europe wasn't exotic enough for us (plus we have been around europe lots) so we ended up going for thailand (4nts bangkok, 10nts koh samui, but in two different places). we have got the cheapest flights possible (which still cost us £1500) but at least our accommodation has worked out quite reasonably (after WEEKS of bloomin research!)

We are going here! we looked at Seychelles to start with but it is SO expensive so we are now doing 3 nights in Venice and 8 nights in Sardinia.

BTW - Easyjet fly direct to Sardina if you decide to do that...

Oooh, yes will definitely look into that. When are you going? We've been looking online and got a few brochures out of the travel agents, and it all just looks beautiful! Seems ideal for me to be honest, love Italian food, love wine, have always wanted to go there, and H2B seems keen on the idea too (always a bonus ?)

Yes same here - we have been saying we wanted to go to Venice since we got together really and haven't managed it yet!

We are going mid July this year - I booked it all directly for the flights and hotels too so we have exactly what we want and no coach transfers!

Sounds great, hope you have a fab time!! You'll have to post all about it when you get back!

OH and I are getting married at the end of July next year, so will be around the same time of year as you that we'll be going too - end of July or maybe the first 2 weeks of August. Weather should be at its peak then so am sure you'll both come back nice and brown too ?

I don't really have any idea as H2B is organising it all and insists on it being a surprise. We had talked about possibly Cuba and Greneda, or Iceland, or Italy, or even Cornwall. But I will just have to wait and see, which I'm not very good at as I don't really like surprises and I have organised all our previous holidays. Also, my bridemaid won't tell me what she is planning for the hen weekend. I'm going to be trying to get it out of them for the next four months!

As somebody who works for a cruise line, I would double check that you can still do a round-UK cruise without a passport, as we normally still request passport details in case the ship has to divert to Europe for any reason.

BTW - we're going to Kuredu in the Maldives.

We both wanted a do-nothing beach holiday somewhere where we wouldn't normally be able to go (and hadn't been before). As I work for a cruise line, we've been to the Caribbean three times now and I've covered most of the Med for either work or holidays, and we'd never been to Asia together before (H2B's been to Chennai and I've been to Bali but not together).

    I definitely will! Can't wait.

Only think I would say for you is that if you go in August the costs (and crowds) will increase substantially wherever you go in Italy... most Italians take their holidays in August and therefore the demand is really high. We come back on July 31st and just miss the crazy time...

Ok thanks, will keep that in mind. We get married on the 25th July so if we wanted to go pretty much straight after the wedding we would definitely be there during early August. Will have to do a bit of research, could even leave it a month and go in early September or something when the weather is still warm but the costs are a bit less. Will look forward to hearing all about yours anyway!
