Hotel Room Blocks

FilleNouvelle, 26 May, 2017 at 23:10 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi all!

I'm planning a wedding in Edinburgh. My fiance and I are Americans who went to university together there, so figured it would be a lovely spot for us. I'm having some trouble finding information on how to get group rates for hotels. In the states, you just book a hypothetical block, send a promotional code to your guests, and they get the discount when they do their booking on the hotel's website. So far, I haven't found any information about that online for Edinburgh hotels. Is this not really something that's done in the UK?

Thanks in advance!

For some hotels you don't book the rooms in a block the hotel automatically offers discount, your guests call and book using your wedding day rate (not sure if there's a code or anything like that). Other hotels will offer a whole venue hire price, you have to pay for it all and you sell your guests their rooms, some hotels help with this, some don't it really depends on the venue. If the website says exclusive hire, that's the whole place including rooms, if it says discounted rate for wedding guests then that's the one your guests call to book.

Best idea is find one you like and enquire.

As far as I'm aware, hotel blocks aren't as much of a thing over here.

We got married at a hotel, so we got a discounted rate there if you said you were with our Wedding.

If I were you, I'd look at hotels near to your venue in a couple of price brackets and just give that info to your guests Smiley smile that way they can make their own decision Smiley smile

It's actually done quite a lot when it comes to weddings but it tends not to be advertised. Find a hotel you want and talk through the options with them.

Try the Village Hotel, Novotel, Holiday Inn, MacDonald hotels (you'll need to google them to see what ones are in Edinburgh - I can't remember!). They all do it. Or at least have done it.
