Housemoving kleek - we have a date!

Doughnut, 4 July, 2009 at 11:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 24

15th July!! Fiiiinally! We shall be moving here*:

I can't beliiiiiieve it!

That grey paint will be the first thing to go ? And whoever owns that blue Peugeot better move it, that's our space now. Not looking forward to returning to the joys of on-street parking, but as we only have one car now not 3, we should be OK. Have stalked the area at various times of day and parking is good. The road to the right of the house has parking down both sides and no houses on it.

How is everyone else getting on? Dave, what's occurin' with you?

    Thanks! We love it!

Lovely FIL is paying for someone to pack and move for us.

It has a paved garden, not massive, but bigger than the tiny place we're in now.

Oooooh congratulations! Have you started packing? Have you much decorating to do inside or is it mainly the grey paint you want to tackle? ?

Our experience has been a nightmare this last month or so. We're selling up and moving into rented for the time being. We had a buyer, had found a place we loved, sorted school places for the children and it all fell apart <sob>

Fortunately we still had plenty of interest and accepted a new offer on Thursday afternoon. We'll go househunting again once we've exchanged contracts (hopefully end of this month/early August). We've no chain this time so fingers crossed it'll go ok.

As long as you've got space to sit out with a glass of wine on a summers eve that's enough surely? ?

Your FIL is lovely, that's fab. I've never moved a full house (furniture etc) but packing has got to be the worst job.

do you need to do any work to it?

No packing people, FIL is paying for us to have someone do it ?

The inside is hideous but it needs a serious damp proof course before we can do much:

Awful isn't it! The MIL loved it and was saying "Oooh look at this, you wouldn't need to do anything to it" which the agent was laughing at as when we first looked round I'd said "Oh god your Mum would love it here" to H ?

We rented til we bought this place and we moved every 6 months; I loved it. How come you're moving?

Well at least its not your MIL who has the say with decorating lol.

We are moving to save money and to get away from the neighbours. I just stole some of the pics off rightmove so I can show and tell. https://www.flickr.com/photos/15940787@N05/sets/72157620939132072/

Ooh me, me meeeeeee...we're moving on Friday, HURRAH! I can't wait, I'm surrounded by a sea of boxes and have nowhere to sit at the moment. Our current sofa doesn't fit in the new house and the new one isn't being delivered (to the new house) until the day we move in. I put my current one on Gumtree yesterday expecting it to take a few days to hopefully sell but someone came and bought it this morning, oops!

Zoe, what a gorgeous place. I bet you can't wait to get in.

Serendipity - good luck! How exciting! We can't get the bed out of our room here and don't have one in the new place, so it will be mattress on the floor for a while ?

Thank you, I am very looking forward to being there and not here! Can you believe its cheaper than a 3 bed modern house in a not that great area.

Sounds like us, I've got a new bed being delivered to the new house and have Freecycled our old bed frame, it's being collected Thursday night so we'll be on a mattress on the floor then too. TRhe kids beds are already dismantled so I can decorate their rooms so they're on mattresses too, lol.

    Gorgeous house Zoe.

Another one here moving on Friday. My house looks like a tip but I have people coming in to pack and then move us. Can't wait. Just panicking that I've remembered to speak to everyone - insurance etc!

What lovely houses you're moving too! Donut, yours will be amazing once you've decorated it etc. We are moving too but not until the 31st July and we are renting rather than buying so it's a lot less stressful I'd imagine!

I don't have any pictures of our new house but it's an actual house as opposed to a flat and it has a giant garden which will be brilliant. At the moment our house is full of furniture as we live in a furnished flat at the moment and our new house is unfurished so we've been collecting bits as we see them. It's beginning to get to me but it's not for that much longer really and it will be worth it in the end.

I think I'm going to be quite disappointed in the end though as yes we'll have a garden but we will still live in Scotland and it will rain lots and I won't be eating outdoors every evening like I am imagining in my head.?

    Congratulations everyone who is moving!

We might be able to get our house on the market this week ? - it's all taken way longer than I thought it would, but we've had confirmation that the extension we'd need to build for granny flat on the house we want to move into doesn't need planning permission - so that's the biggest hurdle out of the way. Mr Layabout is out in the front garden as we speak, putting the finishing touches to the new guttering so we can take photos of front garden for the website it'll go on. Our house is 40% owned by a housing association so they get 8 weeks to sell it first. With any luck they'll find us a buyer, but I'm not very hopeful. I anticipate we'll still be sitting here twiddling our thumbs in the new year!

But, for the first time, it's gone from being a possibility to a probability that we can move to the proper countryside, which I've always wanted to do ever since I was about 8 ?

Love both your houses Doughnut & Zoe.

Great potential there Doughnut .. you'll take great pleasure, I'm sure, in turning the decor round into something more modern and stylish ?

We too are moving on the 15th. We completed ('closed' in American speak) on the 30th June, but the house doesn't feel like ours ATM as the builders are still working there. Not the best situation as we'd like to be able to start moving bits and pieces ourselves, but hey ho. We'll get the key back from the builder on the 10th, and then we'll probably 'camp' there for a night .. just because we can!

Packers are packing up everything on the 15th & 16th, and then move our stuff into the new house on the 17th & 18th.

Our first American home. Exciting stuff!

Good luck to everyone on the move. Stressful, but wonderful at the same time ?

Coooee Doughnut! I was wondering how you were getting on. Thats a lovely looking house I bet youre sooooo excited.

We went viewing last weekend again, 9 houses in a day, we started at 10am and got home at 7pm, we were knackered. We found two houses in the same street we love, we have tentatitvely offered on both as we know we cant proceed yet (still waiting for the bottom of the chain to slot into place) but we wanted to gauge what theyd accept.

    This one

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-22686329.html/svr/1012?backToListURL=%2Fuser%2Fshortlist.html%3Ftype%3DBUYING

We offered £155k and they said theyd like more for it as theyve just reduced the asking price from £175k, which is fair enough so we said we would leave it for now but it gives us an idea of what theyre looking for price wise. Minimal stuff to do in this one, Id put in a cloakroom downstairs and refit the bathroom.

    Then theres this one

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-20742721.html?backToListURL=%2Fuser%2Fshortlist.html%3Ftype%3DBUYING

Which we offered £135k for as its been on the market for over 6 months with no reduction in price. They said they were looking for over £140k and we offered £142k whic they said theyd accept as soon as we could proceed. To make this one what we want would take about £30k as Id want to put the kitchen on the lower ground level with a conservatory as the dining room. Id reconfigure the bathroom, add in a cloakroom on ground floor, rip out the current kitchen and knock through in to dining room, then put the wall back in between the living room and dning area so Id have 2 good sized living rooms.

So Im praying that the bloke thats offered on ours manages to get an offer on his ASAP!
