Housework Poll - Inspired by BT

Clairebecky, 6 January, 2009 at 00:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 47

Is your house:

a) Pristine - like a showhouse all the time

b) Generally presentable most of the time

c) Bit of a mess generally but blitzed for visitors

d) Messy and visitors can take us as they find us

e) A complete pit?

I'd say I'm a c really. I have a friend who is an a though and puts me to shame!?

I have a one bed flat (3 rooms- bathroom, bedroom and living room/kitchen) and I'm a bit of a combo of c and d at the minute ? My problem is I work such odd hours sometimes it's a luxury to be able to get a reasonable sleep nevermind worrying about tidying up/washing up! Tomorrow however is a day off and a tidy up and washing day!

    I'd have to say I'm mostly B.

However when my mum is coming to stay I turn into C and clean like mad as I once caught her on her knees looking under the bed for dust?

I have to say though she is deffinatley A all the time, her house looks like no one lives in it all!!

    Luv Victoria

    xx

People will hate me, but at the moment it would be A as I'm a housewife and clean a lot. It's old fashioned, but my H works all day, so I like to have the place immaculate for him to come home and mess up and not have to do anything. However, I don't have children, so this is a lot easier to achieve than most people. I honestly believe though that I may well kill myself when I do have kids as I will still be obsessive about cleaning, but also have kiddies to take care of.

When I worked, it would always be very clean and presentable e.g. ready for visitors, but there would always be one room full of clean unironed laundry or something that had to be hidden for fear of an avalanche.

Our house doesnt quite fit, its messy but tidyed when we know we are having visitors so sort of c sort of d. Although sometimes its e.

Clearly I am not a domestic godess and am a slovenly mare compared to most hitchers ?

Ours is B as we both teach from home every day so have students and parents in the house 5 days a week. Having said that, they don't see upstairs which can sometimes get to E before we have time to fix it!

Generally I'm a (b), although we have a room where the children play/veg out which gets a once over once a day but is generally covered in toys/games but I can live with that. MrD is a bit anal about things being put away and I'm sad t say after nearly 9 years its starting to rub off ?

    by Tuesday - B

    by Wednesday - C

    by Thursday - D

Our bedroom is an E ? (what can I say, I am a messy dresser)

Our main bathroom & the kitchen is a B but Everywhere else is C/D

We both work full time and try very hard to keep the house to B/C standards, but most evenings I just want to curl up in bed, our lodger (my sister) keeps her part of the house to B/C all the time

Probably c - cleaning is far too boring to do every day or even every week.

Normally somewhere between b and c. However for the last 3 months or so we have been living upstairs due to DIY and I'm most definitely an e now, but at least I have DIY as an excuse and as we have so seats, bar the toilet, downstairs visitors aren't here for more than 5 minutes before we go to the pub!

MIL2B is an a though, the house gets really blitzed when she is visiting!

I'm a mix of c, d and e. c in the places where visitors (like my mum and dad) are allowed, d in places where friends who know me are allowed and e everywhere else ? I've just never really succeeded at this housework lark!

ETA Before I had children I was more of a C, maybe even stretching to a B at times! I've got worse the more children I have ?

It alternates between B and C. I'm a housewife at the moment too ? but my house isn't pristine even though I do housework every day. The DIY I do the rest of the time might not help though!

A mix between C & D - the problem with our flat is we have no storage so things are stacked in corners in the living room, and as we have no money and most of our furniture was bought cheap or given to us, none of it matches. So even when it IS tidy, the living room always looks messy.

C mainly although I would like to be B. There is only me to take care of so you would think I could maintain higher standards but no, just doesn't happen. Although the house is clean, I am incredibly untidy. I pick somehting up, put it down, who knows where and papers and magazines everywhere really.

New Year goal is to be tidier. I will never reach the heady heights of A though.

I am between b & c. I hate a dirty bathroom, so even if I don't do any other cleaning, that will always be done.

Our flat tends to collect clutter - paperwork & ironing (1 bed flat, no outside space so waching dries inside). However, with the delivery of a sideboard tomorrow, <does a little dance> things will get much neater...

I'm a housewife too (with no children) but a hairy dog who sheds his coat everywhere and is always running his muddy paws through the hall so mine is a B. I also spend a fair bit of time at the gym and so I tend to do housework on my days "off" from there rather than everyday. I do blitz it quite manically if we have friends over when I'll set aside a day of the week and clean it from top to bottom.

Sometimes C, usually D and occasionally E (and in our bedroom, almost always).

I have two children under 6, one of whom has an ASD, Mr JK is out of the house 13 hours a day in the week, and works at home a good proportion of the rest of the time, and I work at least 2.5 days a week. I hate housework. I wholly resent cleaning up after other people at home. I'd rather be at work TBH.

Edited to alter what was an unconscious upgrading of my own housekeeping. B? I don't think so.

    A mixtute of B & C

I'm a naturally tidy and organised person but I am limited due to lack of space and things start to get messy as I have no where to put them!

I would say that I'm a C. But I think H would love it if we were a B but unless he does it himself, he has to put up with C.

I think he gets it from my MIL who is definitely between A & B. She is constantly cleaning although I definitely wouldn't say their house is a show house, my best friends parents have that ?

But then I think my slovenly ways (or as H see's them!) come from my parents house which I would say is a D. But then even I find that a bit annoying after a few days.

C/D. The problem with our flat is that the mess isn't superficial. ? Our bedroom is a pit from hell, it's sooooo depressing.

I have a toddler though and I really don't understand how I'm supposed to keep the house clean and entertain him at the same time (though I know lots of women do manage this).

Im somewhere in between B/C. I live alone, so there isn't that much mess and i just tidy-up after myself. It's a far cry from what i used to be like when i lived with my parents, my mum used to have a fit!

Errr... A! No children, OH is slightly OCD with cleaning and I am the queen of tidying and de-cluttering. I work from home, which is actually a bonus as always about to stick the washer on, and do other quick tasks. I love to tidy out cupboards and draws when feeling stressed. My attic is tidier than my parents' houses - it's even zoned. Yes, I am anal. I have also been tempted to hoover the garden in the past, but drew the line there. I was also disproportionately happy when I replaced my Dyson with a Hetty, although I think this was because of the general pinkness.

I'd like to think I'm a B, heading towards an A most days. But I'm a housewife. We've got young children, but they only create toy mess and crumbs, which only takes 10 minutes to put right. Paint, glueing and the like are easily containable in our vinyl floored dining room.

I am a bit anal about tidying up as I go, H gets a bit annoyed when I tidy up in the evenings when the girls are in bed, but for me, I'd rather sit down with a glass of wine in a tidy clean living room than sit and stress about looking at it. I get very annoyed by things that are squint - rugs, pictures, ornaments. I'll even get up to straighten the cable box under the TV if the girls have pushed it out of line! ?

Off to clean the shower now - it's the one thing that I ever let slip a bit - I just hate getting in there to clean the runners and stuff, I always end up wet!

I'd like to think it's B to C, but in reality it's probably more a C to D, with some areas bordering on E.

My usual method of tidying is to shove stuff in a box where I can't see it anymore, and I have never vacuumed under the bed so that's disgusting. The dust bunnies have their own civilization under there - I think they're approaching the industrial revolution.

The public areas of the house are presentable, though, although the kitchen and bathroom are probably not to my usual standards. H is doing them at the moment, though, so the pregnant lady doesn't have to be contaminated with too many harmful chemicals, so I can't complain!

B/C mostly although the back bedroom is D and always full of washing and ironing

I come from an A house so I had to do a deep clean before my parents came round at Christmas, my mum runs her fingers along skirtingboards!
