How are you getting there?

psycho_jo, 4 March, 2012 at 20:46 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hello, just wondered how everyone is getting to their wedding?

I was going to be going in my mum's friend's Jag, but long story short, that won't be happening.

The venue is about 20 mins away. I have 4 bridesmaids (who I'd planned to go in my mum's BMW). That could still happen I guess. The thing is, I am a bit against spending £100s on a car I'm not fussed about, that no one will see anyway and that will inevitably be expensive when I mention the word wedding. I need to get my mum and brother there too. My brother is quite up for driving - and has hinted he'd love it if we hired a sports car then he'd drive us there! Hmm.....

So, what do you think my other options are? (Brain freeze!)

Cheers, Jo Smiley smile

Luckily, my brother is part of a vintage car club so we have some contacts. If that didn't work out, our plan B was to insure my dad's sports car for the day and Rob drive me... can't be doing with spending hundreds of pounds on a car to drive us 10miles.

Have you got friends with nice cars? Taxi (a proper black cab)? Something original like a tractor? (we live in the country so that was another option!)

I kinda felt the same as this and we were planning on using a friend's VW camper and then two other friends offered their own cars to transport bridesmaids etc (Audi A5 and another Audi convertible). The VW has sadly fallen through but we've seen a very cute vintage Morris Minor convertible which we're hiring for a couple of hours for £120. I'm not paying for vehicles for anyone else though. Happy medium! I've been to plenty of wedding where the couple didn't have cars (inc my best friend) and they weren't missed. Especially if you personally aren't fussed.

I'm staying the night at the venue so don't have this problem. OH was going to drive himself but we have now decided that he is having a campervan take him best man and his son to the venue. I was quoted £400+ but spoke to a lovely couple explained exactly what I was after and now paying £150 which is just over what I am paying for the bridal suite at the venue the night before.

You could look at executive taxi's?
