How are you wearing your wedding ring

casinogirl, 27 May, 2010 at 16:53 Posted on Planning 0 24

OK I have spent the last hour or so fiddling with my new shiny! I am trying to find the best way to wear it.

I know it is tradition to wear your wedding ring first then your engagement ring after, but mine looks better the other way round.

WHats everyone else doing or planning on doing x

Apparently the reason for wearing your rings on that finger is because it is somehow connected to your heart via viens and/or arteries or something so the idea of WR first is that it is the one closest to your heart (not sure how I know this or even if it is 100% right, I think someone told me !!!).

I will be wearing mine the traditional way, but not just because of tradition, also because my WR needs to be shaped round my ER so I think it will look better for the shaping to face down to the base of my finger, if you know what I mean !!

I wear my ER first, then my wedding ring on top of that, just prefer it that way, if i ever get an eternity ring that will go on the top of them all...................now thats an idea, hoping to renew my vows at some point, could have my eternity ring then...........

I guess it depends on when you'll be wearing it too - I take my engagement ring off a fair bit depending on what I'm doing, but hardly ever take my wedding ring off. If you're going to be wearing them both all the time, there's no reason why you shouldn't wear your ER first.

Hmm, I'm sure there's some tradition about wearing your wedding ring first because once you put it on you shouldn't ever take it off so me being me, and a bit superstitious (is that spelt right???), I'll be wearing the WR first. I think it's personal preference though and if you don't like the way it looks one way then change it.

I wear Wr then ER because... I didnt want to take my WR off. I still haven't actually. I also think my rings look better that way, but can see why other styles would look better the other way round. I think it's up to you, I doubt anyone else would really notice.

I wont be wearing my ER after the wedding unless we're going out etc (i can only have a plain band for work) so i'll probably have WR then ER

Im another WR then ER, just fits better like that for me. It wouldn't bother me wearing them the other way round though.

I always assumed that you wear your wedding ring first. with engagement ring on top, but have just bought our wrs in Gibraltar and the jeweller insisted that it was er first then wr, and in 35 years he´d never heard of wearing your wr first!

I know different countries have different traditions with the order of the rings. I think germany is even different again. I think they wear the wedding ring on the right hand as a sign that you are to be married (like an engagement ring) until the wedding and then move it to the other hand!

So wedding ring first is traditional - does this mean you shouldn't wear your er at the ceremony then and put it on after??

Am my case of bronchitis got worse last night so I'm now off work today. ☹️

I'm going to be a WR then ER on top girl! That's how my Mum wears hers so that seems 'normal' to me. I don't suppose it matters how you were them, it'll be whatever is comfortable for you.

My ER won't fit on my right hand so I'm going to ask someone (OH, CBM or my Mum) to look after it during the ceremony then I'll put it on afterwards ready for photos x

WR then ER for me. On the day I'll put my ER on my right hand and then pop it back onto the proper finger later on ?

I put my er on my other hand for the ceremony and then moved it back over. When my H went to put my wedding ring on, he went 'where is your ring!' I had to show him my other hand, don't know what he thought I'd done with it!
