How are your BMs getting to the church?

sidsidney, 5 January, 2010 at 21:19 Posted on Planning 0 12

For those ladies not having a civil at their reception venue....

Sorry if this sounds like a daft question! OH and I have had a crap a day of bickering over transport to/from church and venue. Only one person in my family is a driver and she's one of the BMs so I wouldnt be expecting her to drive my mum, dad etc to/from the ceremony. OH is not so happy at the prospect of me getting a car (or taxi) for my mum and dad, as they dont have much dosh and will probably say they have to get the bus there.

But I digress! The purpose of my post was to see if you are all getting your BMs transport to the ceremony then venue? I assumed that it would be the norm to get a car for your BMs, but OH is now moaning about that! He seems to think that you can just tell the BMs when where they are needed and let them turn up at the church....!

Please tell me I am not being mental?! After 3 hours of so of angrily debating the transport issue I just want someone to be on my side!! lol! ?

Sid xx

I'm on your side! I think it's helpful to arrange transport for the bridal party, unless there's an easy alternative.

How are you and h2b getting there? Can you arrange a minivan or large car for the whole bridal party?

I've only got one BM n 2 flowergirls (who are nearly 3), they're making they're own way as I wasn't happy having the girls in a car without car seats n seems daft to have it just for one. my mum will be driving there from my house (prob BM with her) n obviously dad will b with me.

I would have had a car if i'd had more bridesmaids to take them from wherever we're getting ready to the church.

I was mad for the idea of an old London bus (https://www.wheels.co.uk/coach/vehicles.htm) to take people from the church to the venue - I thought it a bit unusual!!! But thats been poo-poo'd (to be honest there are more guests than seats so might be a bit awkward if not everyone fits!). And OH has said that he would rather have one car just for us as it will be the only time in the whole day we get to ourselves (ignoring the poor driver!!).

I think that I can talk him round to the idea of a minibus to take BMs to church and back + mum and dad. And it would be cheaper than hiring a more traditional classic car for the BMs.

...Just so long as I can convince him that we should actually be arranging a car for the BMs in the first place...!

Im having my 3 bridesmaids staying over at my house the night before the wedding so can't exactly tootle off in a wedding car with my dad and leave them to make their own way there so we've got them a car too.

My OH hasn't got a wedding car to get to the church though, is that normal? I assumed he'd get a lift from the best man (OH is staying at BM's house the night before) and then go to the reception with me in the wedding car.

If you're getting transport there how about getting a limo so that you, bm, flower girls and parents can all go together? x

My OH isnt getting a car there either! No one will see him in it. He just wants a ride in a posh car once he's married!

If you live close to the church you could send the bridesmaids in your car then it could come back for you, that's what i'm doing but i literally live 2 doors away fron the church, but if you're close enough it could work.

H2B is arriving in the A-Team van with all his ushers and best man via the pub... although they don't know that yet - it's a surprise!

I am arriving in a Horse drawn Carriage with my Dad. My mum and sister (bridesmaid) plus flower girl will arrive in another car (either hired or taxi - not sure yet).

Mum wants to be in the carriage though so may have to get a bigger one that will seat 4.5! Although if I decide on more bridesmaids this won't work!

Totally normal to provide transport for bridesmaids... You will surely want to see them before you get to church?

I've arranged two cars for my wedding, one which will take me and my Dad and the second to carry my 3 bridesmaids, pageboy and Mom as it seta 7 people. Though I'm not sure if my Mom will now drive her own car as they may be going on holiday the day after the wedding!

I think traditionally the bridesmaids have a car but each to there own and obviously peoples budgets have the final say!! x x As I say it's the womans day the man should just turn up hehe ?
