How big is your wedding?!

MayBride2012, 22 August, 2011 at 14:47 Posted on Planning 0 58

Hello everyone!

Is there such a thing as an average wedding size? How many people are you having at your ceremony/meal? Are you having many more at the evening reception?

xx

We had 160 people at our all day (ie church, reception, meal) and then around another 150 at night. Big Families and lots of friends!

I dont think there is such a thing as an average sized wedding.

We're having 200 approx, and we're inviting everyone to the ceremony and to the reception. Ceremony will be in a church and then we're planning to have a buffet meal and drinks/dancing til late! It will cost us a fortune but having everyone there is something we want to prioritise.

I have been suprised by the amount of people having 100+ for their wedding breakfast. I cant imagine paying for all those people to eat!!!!

We have set a rule of immediate family and some very special friends for the ceremony and breakfast - total will be no more than 40.

We are expecting to hit 200 or over for the evening tho - I have 15 aunties and uncles and my OH has 6, plus cousins etc and many many friends.

Wow! I feel like my guest list is fairly small in comparison to alot of yours. I am in the very early stages of planning my wedding (even though I am getting married next May!!lol!) In fact that is the only thing that is organised! aaarh! xx

We were going to have only 60 at the day but this was not including any friends and only immediate family so we have now included the rest of our families that we want there and close friends so that takes us closer to 100 at day and an additional 140 - 200 at the evening.

Well thats how many are going to be invited whether or not that many come will be another story lol!

I would have classed mine as about average sized, but now I'm thinking maybe it is just small - having 60 guests officially but actually all in all including kids and wedding party its 77 - then more in the evening bringing the dance total to about 220 i think.

Ours is very small compared to some - 32 'day' guests (there's 10 of us in the bridal party). We're only expecting 14 'evening' guests too.

We're having 80 for the day, and about 20 extra in the evening - we invited about 40 to the evening do but at relatively short notice so lots of people couldn't make it. Smiley sad

I have been to weddings which had 150 all day and ones where there were only 40 - all have been lovely in their own way, so I don't think there is a "right" number.

Not sure there is an average anymore...it is dependent on so many factors - the venue capacity, your own wishes, the size of your families and amount of friends...

We are getting married in Devon, about 200miles away from where we and most of our guests live, mainly because we want to move there when we sell our house and we fell in love with the venue. However this meant that we were restricted to it's maximum capacity of 70...but we found that this freed us rather than constrained us. It allowed us to choose the people who really meant something to us without having to invite the people who you invite because you have to, or feel obliged to.

We are only having one 'do' so it will be the same 70 people there all day and night.

I don't think there is a right number either, but will be nice to have a good number in the evening to ensure a good party atmosphere lol!! xx

    Ours is very dinky!

We're having 40 for the day and night. We're getting married 2.5 hours away, people will need to stay over and we don't have big families! Plus we're on a very tight budget so we can get a honeymoon too Smiley smile

First time round about 60 to ceremony and meal, further 10 or so turned up to the evening do.

This time, 3 at the ceremony (me, OH, priest) and about 60-70 for the reception.

I think average is about 80-100 day, 100-150 evening

I'm still awaiting final RSVPs but we've got 80-82 daytime and a further 30 max to the evening do. I felt this was a pretty big wedding until i read posts on here! I'm still falling out with my family about them wanting more people to attend (just for the sakes of having lots of people there) whereas we've only invited family and friends who are special to us.

Mine is 72 guests day and night - we started off at 150 then we fell in love with the Star at alfriston and they have an offer on for 72 guests so we cut the list. TBH I am happier with less people Smiley smile

Same for us. Though we're not limited by the venue capacity, we felt 70 people was plenty!! It might creep up or down by maybe 10 or so, but as every guest will be an 'all day' guest, I'm not bugeting for more than 80 people, so it better not creep too much!
