How did he propose?

i cant wait, 21 August, 2009 at 21:43 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi all

I was just wondering how everyone got proposed to?

I shall start off, My boyfriend (sorry i also hate saying fiance still seems strange) suggested going for a walk, so we went to some woods near our home. We got to a clearing and he had set up a gazebo and had set up a picnic with champers and all other kids of treats and flowers all around. Got down on one knee and popped the question. For someone who is never romantic i was in complete shock, has to be the best moment of my life.

Mines not a mind blowingly romantic one, i found it terribly embarassing actually! We were at my parents and having a birthday dinner for my grandad, after we had given him presents and sang happy birthday, my mum says "and over to Andy!" and he got down on one knee in front of everyone! i didnt know what to do with myself! He was so nervous he mumbled half of what he said, so after we left he drove us to Alexandra Palace and sitting looking over london at night he did it all again, well that bit was romantic :-)

Well mine was trying to be romantic but I was being a miserable bint! We went to one of our favourite places in Dorset for the weekend and the weather wasn't great. My OH kept trying to take me on different walks but I was moaning at him that I wanted to stay in the car cos it was raining. What I didn't know was that he was trying to find a romantic spot to pop the question... Eventually, on the last walk we went on it stopped raining (although I'd spent ages questioning why he needed to take a rucksack when it was 'only a five minute walk') and on the top of the hill the sun came out and he proposed with a glass of champagne (that's what was in the rucksack, including the ring!!) - it was lovely...

For a bloke who normally gives me toolkits and things for Valentine's day because 'I needed one' it was very very romantic! xx

He took for me for dinner for our anniversary and afterwards took me for a walk around lincoln cathedral. he dragged me around for ages in front of the cathedral in the freezing cold snow whilst i was wearing a really short dress and heels. eventually i told him i knew what was going on and please could he get on with it. so he turned to me and pulled out a ring and said 'please will you marry me?' and i said yes but he had to do it properly. and so he knelt down in the snow and asked me again. poor bloke. very romantic though. all clear skies and twinkly stars and cold and snowy and beautiful part of lincoln. just how i'd always imagined it.

I bought OH a ring for her birthday nearly a year after we started going out. It was just meant to be a ring, not an engagement ring if that makes sense. It was too small so the next day we took it back, and they said they would have another one made in the correct size, but it would take a few weeks. I got it back two weeks later, but didn't tell her. A few days after that it was our first anniversary (to put it in context it's been nearly 7 years now), we went out (to see Eddie Izzard of all things!) wehn we got home I said I had a surprise for her. I gave her the ring and said something like "If it ever becomes legal, can we make it official?" Not massively romantic I'm afraid, but then she would have hated that. She said yes. A few months later she bought me a ring for my birthday, said it was a promise to keep her end of the bargain!

A year later, the Civil Partnership Act came in. We said we'd do it at some point, but we weren't in a rush. We'd just set up home together, I was in a job I hated, we just wanted to be settled before we started planning anything.

Over time it became less important, we still wanted to do it at some point, but it felt like we'd aleady made a lifetime commitment to each other. Anyway, fast forward a few years to last October. I got home from work at about 11pm, OH was up a ladder in the kitchen painting the walls. She said she wanted to talk to me. She said she didn't need any kind of ceremony to feel committed to me, but she did want to celebrate what we had with our families and friends, and instead of just saying we'll do it one day, let's set a date soon! That night we set the date for April 4th this year, and within days we'd booked the venue.

Not a massively romantic story, believe it or not we can do romance!!

    Hi guys,

Well me and my H2B went touring America last year and our first stop was LA and the second night we were there we were on the hotel roof and he asked me if he was to propose how would I prefer it, Alone together or in front of loads of people, and I said alone because I would probably die in embarassment. We went back down to the room and they had these massive windows and you could see all over Hollywood and we went on the balcony and next thing I no he is on one knee! It was the hapiest moment of my life and I cried for hours haha!

It did make the holiday tho, I was over the moon!? For Michael tho that was rather extreme as he isnt usually romantic in the slightest

We were on a cruise around the Med last aug and we had been for a fab dinner, watched a movie under the stars cuddled under blankets, then we went back to out room about 10.30pm and he asked if I would like a glass of wine out on our balcony. We sat down and I was moaning about my ankle hurting coz I had slipped on deck in the morning (how embarrasing was that?!) so he asked if I wanted some socks on to keep my feet warm. I said 'no', he got some socks anyway and handed them to me with a weird look on his face. I thought he was playing a trick on me and started waving these socks around very close to the balcony edge! He very sternly told me to 'put the bloody socks on Melanie' (he calls me by my full name when I am in trouble or he is serious about something!) So I pulled the pair of socks apart and found a ring box, he then went really serious and asked me to marry him.....I said 'oh my god' about 20 times before he asked 'well, will ya?' and then I managed to say yes and then I cried for about an hour afterwards. Actually he had teary eyes when I had said yes and put the ring on! Stars were twinkling,,,beautiful! Amazing that the next morning, we were at sea and I got up as the sun was rising and was on the balcony watching my diamond sparkle and looked down, there was a school of about 15 dolphins all playing right below me. I'm not ashamed to admit that I thanked god for my lot in life at that moment, then went back to bed for a cuddle! It was THE most perfect time of my life. ! (now I have gone all teary thinking about it!)

I thought we were going to a quiz night that was smart dress so OH got dressed in a suit and I put on a dress. He told me 15 mins before we were meant to leave that our friends had cancelled as they were poorly, and as we had seen them the day before and one of them was I didnt think anything of it. He said he had rang the local italian at the end of our road and they had a cancellation so we could go there for dinner instead. I was downstairs sorting myself out, and he kept called me to come upstairs as he needed some help. At this point I wondered what was going on as he couldnt possibly need me help as he was all ready. SO I went upstairs and into our bedroom and there he was on one knee with a ring and asked me to marry him. I say yes through tears. its the only time that I can honestly say my breath was taken away. I could hardly speak which is very unusual for me! Once i had stopped crying and phoned our parents he took me to the italian for a 3 course meal and champagne. it was perfect.

I am the same about getting proposed to infront of people. I had told him that under no circumstances did I want to be proposed in with people around and I knew that there would probably be crying!
