How did you ask for discounts?

Hi Ladies,

After almost two months of searching, h2b and I may have found our venue! The prices are ok, but obviously I'd like to get as much money off as possible!

For those of you that have haggled with your venues for discounts, could you tell me how you did it?

We haven't even provisionally booked yet but I was thinking of e-mailing the woman who gave us a quote and asking her if there was any give on the prices, but I kept not being happy with the wording of my e-mail so thought I'd ask you lovely lot for some advice!

Would you:

- Ask in person

- Ask over the phone

- Ask by e-mail

What would/did you say to them to try to get a discount? The venue is asking for venue hire, price per head for food and drink package (includes wedding breakfast, evening buffet and small snack, not canapes for the reception), bridal suite from 11:30 on the day, not included in the price but a service that they offer is chair covers for £3.50.

I would do it face to face, be confident as if you mean business and express your interest but say that the price is slightly more than you were expecting and could you work together to reach an agreement on a better price or are they willing to offer any additional extras.

OR - claim that a nearby venue is offering more for less

At the end of the day, they should in theory do what they can to obtain your booking, but then it will depend on what type of a venue it is too.

We are having to pay a hire fee too and there was no give on the price.
