Hello just wondered how everyone went about deciding on a specific date to get married? Was it symbolic to your relationship? Better weather? Cheaper??? I just can't make my mind up and would love some ideas! Han xxx

Neither of us wanted a summer wedding, as we would resent paying premium prices if it ended up chucking down, plus although we love the sun we hate feeling too sweaty if we can't just jump in a pool, so we decided it had to be spring or autumn.

We got engaged in July 2011 so autumn 2011 was out of the question, spring 2012 didn't give us enough time to save plus we were both involved with olympics so would have been a busy time. Equally autumn 2012 for the same reason as we wanted to relax after olympics rather than go full swing into wedding planning so although we pondered over Nov 2012 we decided to go for spring 2013 instead.

So it was March or April 2013. For some venues april was low season but for the one we chose it wasn't so it had to be march, then we settled on our date a bit randomly (plus I had an OCD moment and calculated when my period would be due so that I won't be on my period on either wedding day or honeymoon! yes I'm a freak!!)

So 2nd March 2013 it is! It wasn't a 'special' date to begin with but it certainly is now ?

We didn't even consider any dates that might 'mean' anything to us, bearing in mind that neither of us can remember the date of our first date or when we got together 'officially'!

We based it on the fact we wanted him to have finished uni, looked at 2014 but it just seemed like too far away so looking at 2013 he finishes uni in May- we chose the end of August so we could go away at the beginning of September- i.e when the kids are back in school! (eta- not our kids- we don't have any, just everyone elses!)

    Hi,

I'm similar to a lot of people on this thread- a teacher so summer hols was perfect (despite expensive prices. We also are planning to move away from our home town this summer so wanted to get married before we left.

Ideally our perfect date was Saturday 27th July as FMIL wedding anniversary is 26th and my parents 28th. Unfortunately, as we were (only?) looking a year in advance all saturdays were booked way in advance. We have gone for the Sunday 28th July which is my parents' wedding anniversary which is lovely.

Are there any special dates you could tie it in to?

So Aug 3rd 2013 it is!

We got engaged in March, but didn't really start looking for venues until the summer. We've been together 10 years so din't want a long engagement, but needed about a year to save. I found our venue in August, and 2013 was already almost fully booked. I wanted to avoid high summer and school holidays, but always wanted a summer wedding (I know that you can't rely on the weather here, but I hate being cold and love being able to get outside), and our venue wasn't that much more expensive in the summer. However the only Saturday they had free was Oct 2013, and I didn't want to wait that long to get married.

The venue had some Fridays and Sundays available. We decided against Sundays, so that people didn't have to worry about working the next day. Plus, Fridays were cheaper, and as long as no-one books the venue on the Thursday, it means we can get into the venue on the Thursday to decorate etc. We were offered two Fridays in early summer, but 14th June stood out to me as both our birthdays are on the 14th (OH just said it sounded like a good date to him!!!)

I am a qualified teacher although not currently in a teaching role...but alot can happen between when we decided on date Sept 2012 till 2014 so wanted a date during one of the school holidays. I also didn't like idea of paying more for summer months and easter and xmas have rougly 2 weeks off. Thererefore we decided on Saturday at very start of easter hols giving us 2 weeks off after for honeymoon etc if I do have teaching role between that time. If not then I can just book it off work as annual leave and maybe a couple of days before. The date definitely has special meaning now x

That's a really lovely idea. I will have to find out when exactly my FMIL got married, I know it was June but can't remember exactly, and my mum also got married in June, so that could work for me too!
