How did you find hitched?

When I got engaged (several) years ago a friend introduced me to Hitched. She was a regular poster at the time (this is pre DW).

i posted for a bit but never came to OT.

I have lurked off and on over the years. i dont know why i have started posting, perhaps it is because it felt like the right time.

Well i'm one of the newbies, I found Hitched through a google search one day whilst bored on the internet and looking at wedding stuff. After browsing the articles etc I found my way to the forums. OT just cos I'm nosey! why have I registered and started posting? I've been a member of various forums on lots of different subjects over the years and get sick of the bitchiness and nastiness on most of them. On here, so far, Ive not seen even a hint of that.

Plus its nice not to feel like I'm the most intelligent person on a room/virtual room. I know that sounds big headed but I work with people who actually thought you need a passport to travel from England to Scotland, didn't know what GMT was amongst many other things.

I found WP when I first got engaged - it kept cropping up in search results!

I'd never posted on a forum before but took to Hitched like a duck to the proverbial.

Started on OT while still planning then became a HIB - I'm here for a while yet, I reckon!

My bestie told me about it when she was researching her wedding. I started lurking when she guessed Mr Erin was going to propose. I got a little bored of WP and spend most of my time on OT -l realised earlier that l bought 2 wedding magazines about a year and l haven't opened them yet! I am crap!

Ha! You haven't had a debate with footlong or ef yet. Cleverest people I know!

I'm a newbie too. I joined in May after getting engaged. As others have said, it kept popping up on search results when I started wedding planning. I've never been on a forum before but I've found this one really helpful and while WP is still invaluable to me I'm finding myself in OT more and more. I think I came to OT because I'm nosey but I stayed because I like it!

I saw an advert for Hitched in a bridal magazine, back when I was planning my first wedding in 2004. When Hitched was yellow, and we had ribena faces. Almost 9 years later, i'm still here.

Pretty much bypassed WP, and got stuck right in to OT.

Had the day off work for my birthday last year, was sat at home on my own as no one else was off work (OH couldn't get the day off) and was googling.

Never been the member of another forum before. Now I'm addicted to Hitched!

I jumped straight in caused a bit of a stir over on WP in a certain 'is it ok to wear hats black to weddings thread'

I did not discover OT until I posted a Eurovision thread over on WP and Nutty one said a Eurovision party was going down over 'er and I have been hanging around like a bad smell ever since.

I just looked up wedding forum on google and found it. First was youandyourwedding but after about half an hour I decided it was $hite there.

Needed to know something about booking venue before booking registrar and a similar thread came up via google. Everyone was really helpful and not a nob.

I was googling something or another and landed on WP and since I knew absolutely naff all about weddings thought I'd better stick around and learn some stuff. When I get bored of bridesmaid dresses and bridesmaid wobbles threads I come and nosey on here because there's always something interesting being talked about (not always brave enough to join in though).

Pretty much this except for the HIB part.

I found it when I was researching wedding planning in my area. Hitched was mentioned a few times and a few people described it as confusing (how?!) So I thought I'd check it out to test my tiny brain. I didn't find it confusing in the least, surprisingly! And even though I'm not the most prolific poster by any means, I've stuck around since!

I think it came up in a Google search when I was looking for musicians in my area and I decided to take a look. I never introduced myself to OT just started posting occasionally.

I think I searched for "wedding forums," tried out a couple and found them either unbelievably twee or a bit chavvy, and settled down in Hitched. Looking back at my posting history, I started posting in OT about 2 months after I joined, though I lurked before that. I never "introduced" myself to OT, just dived into threads, which was the done thing on previous forums I've been on, where introduction threads are either ignored or shouted down.

I came across hitched before I was engaged (although had inklings it was going to happen soon) through a google search for something in 2012, then throughout wedding planning I read the WP forum regularly but never posted, for several reasons - I had never been on a forum before and it seemed a bit scary, my wedding planning seemed to go relatively smoothly or I was oblivious if it didn't, when there were hiccups along the way I did what I tend to do when I get worried/stressed/upset and ignore things hoping they will go away and resolve themselves so I didn't post then.

Given the amount of time I spent reading the forums I then found OT and over the time it made me laugh (and cry), but I was impressed by the support on here and the sense of community that when I realised I was feeling a bit lonely and lost I decided I should stop lurking and join in (sorry that all sounds a bit flowery and naff but hopefully you know what I mean). It's all still new to me and I am wary a bit I guess, but I am loving the conversations.

When I got engaged a friend said the I needed to go on hitched, I joined up and dived straight in with no intro! I can't remember finding OT but I am glad I did

Also through the powers of google- the day after oh's brother got married I was bored and thought id google weddings and came upon hitched- was just on wp then I was just lurking over here and just started joining in in some conversations.

I think my OH found it when we were looking g for venue listings. I stumbled into wp when looking around the site and found it really helpful so signed up. I find searching for old threads really useful for lots of question but means I spend hours on hear reading! Never used a forum before and didn't look at any others. Found it when posts on wp weren't feeding my hitched habit enough!

I got asked to join from the hitched Mods themselves, to shake things up, inflict wisdom and fluff on the boards and to generally rule the roost?

And in actual truth I like many other stumbled across it after getting engaged, VERY quickly got bored of wedding planning and scooted over here where my fat arse hasnt left since.

I was having a moment over wedding dresses. I dont like them and couldnt find anything that didnt look like a meringue. Footlong helped me with some awesome dresses and helped prevent a full blown meltdown

Umm, I don't remember how I found hitched, but I know it wasn't the forums I came to the site for. I wanted somewhere to browse loads and loads of wedding dresses and venues, etc, and hitched did the trick. It's why I get so annoyed when people in WP ask questions like, where can I find a list of questions to ask my venue, or where can i find a template budget, etc, etc. It's all on hitched, take a nosy!

It took me a couple weeks before I found the forums, and based on my post history it was a thread titled 'doggy people' that made me post on OT, big surprise ?

After OH and I had talked about marriage and getting engaged I had a little, sneaky google on wedding forums and spotted hitched and a couple of others. Hitched looked pretty good and busy but I didn't want to join any till I was properly engaged. After we got engaged I joined a couple of wp forums, but Hitched turned out to be the best and I stuck with it. I like the fact OT is busy and friendly too as I need a break from wp fairly often!

I think I came across the website before I came across the forums, but it was probably through a search engine.

I was on WP long before I joined OT. And I joined WP before I was even engaged ?

I was looking for information on eloping and H came up in the searches; that was late 2009 I think -we did the deed in Aug 2010. I left a while ago as it got a bit fluffy here, tbh, but have now returned!

I was googling wedding planning websites around the time or just before we got engaged. Hitched, Confetti and You and Your Wedding were the top results. I quickly decided the other two were full of fluffy shite, but liked the more straightforward feel of this place. After my wedding, WP didn't feel like home anymore and a few people I'd met over there said they'd started posting more in OT, so I checked it out too. That was just over 2 years ago and I'm still here!

I found hitched when I got engaged in 2010 bit only lurked on wp. A girl I worked with was on confetti anf I was worried she was also on hitched so I didn't post for fear of being 'outed'.

I didn't bother after I got married but came back and lurked on ot and delurked on a lurker thread!

I was looking for venues, I can remember it quite clearly, I was off work after having my wisdom teeth removed. We booked a venue we found via hitched and ended up cancelling and losing our deposit. So glad we did though, was definitely not the right venue. When I joined WP it was so different to what it is now, I wish I'd got married in 2012/2013 with all my pals. There was no OT once I'd got married, it was dead so I stopped posting until I came back on to BT.

I think I googled "Wedding forum" as I was already on dog & photography forums, so joining a forum seemed quite natural, wanted to make sure I was doing stuff right etc.

I stayed on WP for a while and gradually wandered over to OT, I don't think I did an intro though.

I joined Hitched under a different name when I got engaged early 2011. However very quickly after getting engaged, my life was thrown into turmoil a bit (due to various non-engagement-related things) and I never got into posting. In fact wedding planning was not a good experience for me at all - got married though, so that's the main thing! In June my SIL announced she was engaged and asked me to be a bridesmaid (eek). I thought I had better do a much better job at being a bridesmaid than I did at being a bride so I signed up to hitched again. I've not yet been brave enough to even pop my head around the WP door, let alone post, but OT is lovely and welcoming. In the back of my head I also have this random idea that I would quite like to renew my vows with H at some point - our way, on a beach, no one there, how we had initially wanted our wedding to be. We'll see what happens with that though... I'm full of nutty ideas
