How did you find your Wedding DJ/Disco

callbarney, 20 October, 2011 at 14:19 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi All,

Hope everyone is well. I know I havn't posted much on here lately but I intend to get a bit more active in the community and discussion.

I would like to kick things off by getting your advice and opinion on how you found and booked your wedding DJ. I'm not just talking how you found them i.e. "we looked at google and called him". What I really want to know the true detail involved in your decision, something like "We had been to previous weddings and saw how the DJ really let down the event, so we certainly didnt want to have him. So we looked on google searching for Wedding DJs and came across a few suppliers that we thought looked reliable. We called and emailed a few to get some quotes. Then we asked on the forums about the ones in pur budget and looked for any reviews. Eventually we narrowed it down to the last two and then had a meeting with the both. We picked our chosen DJ. All this took about 3 weeks"

I'm really keen to hear your story, and also very interested to know if you used a search engine (like google) what exactly did you search for as there are so many variations you might have used?

Looking forward to hearing from you all

Barney

    Good question!

I didnt think it would be that difficult, until i went to a friends wedding last year and their DJ was awful!

So not wanting to waste money and having no one up dancing we started looking around and asking people for reccommendations. OH brother told us about a band that his friend booked for their wedding looked them up and they were playing at a local bar so we went down and checked them out - and booked them the next day Smiley smile

    Hi Barney,

We started off with the list of preferred suppliers that was given to us by our venue. We then searched for others in the local area via google to compare prices. We have gone for one of the preferred DJ's as they already have a connection to the venue and were also competitive when it came to prices.

    Hope this helps!

He was the son of the people who own the wedding venue. It meant one less supplier to worry about as we knew he would be there and he organises a festival annually in our area so knew he would understand music.

The band we used was my uncles band. Easy!

Many of my bookings are by recommendations, but I don't like to make any assumptions whilst discussing plans.

Our DJ is well known to us. Carmen took photos at a Wedding he performed at (at his request, and his clients purchased many photos) So, Carmen is happy.

For us, its not about the equipment, but the DJ's performance. Music wise, we're leaving it mainly to him, we've not sensitive songs, and like me, he'll not play anything too cheesy unless requested by us.

So - knowing the DJ was experienced and run his business in a professional manner sold it to us.

We went to a wedding fair and saw a few DJ's there, but we had a really nice chat with one guy and decided a few days late to book them after we checked their website and facebook page. They have 2 DJ's that also take photos of the guests dancing away which we thought was nice, so have booked one of them. We will also give them roughly 20 songs that they must play and the rest they can play what they think suits the crowd. One thing that did make us want to book them is that they've played at our venue before so know about sound level restrictions etc

Ae asked our venue for recommended ones ... when we looked at the list, it turned out that one of them had done a friends sister's wedding, and people had commented how good they were, so because the price was also within budget, we booked them!
