How did you pick a date?

Mrs*W*2B, 15 April, 2012 at 18:56 Posted on Planning 0 44

We are at the stage of talking through date options for our 2014 wedding...i like the sound of 2nd August 2014...there are no special date for us in the summer months so we can't go off that and it's hard to know what is going to be going on 2 years in advance (royal weddings, parades, big events etc) so i don't feel we can really go off that either...our venue has pretty much got most dates available as it's so far in advance so how do we pick?

We chose our date around when the venue was available. If you don't have any restrictions then just choose whenever feels 'right' for you.

Ours is Saturday 16th March next year. We picked March as the venue was running a cheap package but only for weddings taking place between December and March. Also both our parents got married in March so we thought it would be quite a nice idea. Plus we have discounts from some of our suppliers as it is pre-wedding season!

We knew we wanted a Saturday to make things easier for guests. There was only one Saturday booked already which was the 30th. This left the 9th, 16th and 23rd. OH has a strange thing about odd numbers so we ended up going for the 16th :-)

Don't think that helps much but that's how we settled on ours!

We chose our date after researching venues and calculated how long it would take us to comfortably save enough money for everything, we also took into consideration honeymoon costs i.e not getting married in school holidays when honeymoon prices would be double the cost and resorts full of children!. We also ruled out 2012 because of the Olympics (we getting married in central London) so didn't want all the chaos surrounding this at the same time our wedding.

Haha I'm glad he's not the only one! He's awful with it, can't have the tv or radio volume on an odd number, wouldn't consider a house with an odd door number yet his lucky number is 13! What am I letting myself in for!

We knew we wanted to get married in the summer of this year. With us both being teacher we knew August was the best time for us, and we wanted to go on honeymoon after. So it was down to the first two weeks. We originally considered getting married on a Friday but wouldn't have saved any money with our venue, so decided to stick with a Saturday - the 4th or 11th. While waiting to get in contact with the vicar, our reception became booked for the 4th. So our decision was effectively made for us! 11th August it is, thankfully no-one else got in there before us this time!

We choose are 'anniversary'. We decided soon after engaging to marry as the leap year bumped our date to Saturday this year.

We became a couple on 14 July 2007 and OH proposed on our 3 year 'anniversary' on 14 July 2010.

We knew we'd want to save up for a year or so and as 14 July in 2012 fell on a Saturday, it seemed like fate for that to be our date Smiley smile

If you haven't got a particular date in mind, go with what feels good! Good luck choosing Smiley smile

We knew we didn't want to get married in the 'colder' months (altho who knows with British weather!) or 'peak' months....this left us with March, April, May or September.

March, April and May 2012 didn't leave us enough time to organise or pay for the wedding and I didn't want to have to leave it until 2013 so that only left us with September.

We knew we definitely wanted a Saturday wedding.

    So the options were: 1, 8, 15, 22 or 29th

I didnt want to near the end of September as my birthday is the 28th...the 15th and 1st were unavailable at our venue and so the 8th was decided ?

I would have loved to have got married on the 23rd April and this was the date we met but that fell on a Saturday in 2011 or it means waiting until 2016....don't think so lol

We didn't have any special date in mind either, although before we started looking at venues we talked about months and decided we'd like either March or April. The venue we chose has March in low season and April in high season (and higher prices), so we chose March! Then we had our pick of dates, I'm a bit weird about odd numbers (don't ask!) and although we were tempted, for family reasons we decided against easter weekend, so we ended up with 2nd March.

    Good luck!

Our son's birthday is August, mine September, OHs October then in no time it's Christmas so I wanted to go for the first half of the year. OH originally wanted summer as he thought that was what I wanted but I've seen so many people pay a premium for summer and it be a wash out so I managed to persuade him spring would be good. I love Spring for it's optimism and feeling of new life. We were a bit dependant on the venue's availability but also we decided to go for Easter Saturday as we thought a bank holiday weekend would be good for friends. We're getting married on 30/03/13

We only wanted a short engagement (about 6 months) which meant spring and then it came down to the availability of the venue. There was only one Saturday left in the whole of March and April - so we snapped it up! Getting married in 13 days, eek!

I did this!!! Luckily being on the pill, I could pinpoint the exact dates! I've also used it to plan when to take my last pill as we are keen to start the baby making but can't afford it before the wedding!

We wanted to get married in April, I wanted an even number to counter balance the odd number of the year (2013), so we went for Friday 12th, as I love Fridays (who doesn't!?) and I love the number 12 (does this make me the weird number freak in the relationship?).

Nutnut - this was a happy coincidence for me, I hadn't even thought of it, but luckily I have missed it!

We wanted to it to be during the university holiday period as a lot of our friends are students in other parts of the country, and we wanted to make sure they could be there as we wanted to get married on a Sunday. We also wanted to get married in the summer but avoid the Olympics, so originally our date was 19th August (the first Sunday after the end of the Olympics). We then realised as time went on this didn't give us enough time to plan, so we've moved it to the Christmas holidays and it's now 16th December (as we thought the 23rd was too close to Christmas).

We were engaged Jan 2011. Knew we wanted to marry on Zanzibar, and didn't want to be engaged for more than 18 months. Due to rainy seasons, that put us early spring 2012. I was also told I could be on an 8 month work course (no leave allowed) at end of April so it had to be before then. OH's birthday is Jan, mine is Feb, so we avoided those and went for March. Flights limited us to 15th or 28th, and 28th was risky weatherwise, so chose 15th, despite it being the Ides of March.

Then in August 2011 I had a letter from work saying they were putting me on the course in October 2011 - July 2012. Had to cancel bookings and rebook, accept high season price rises, and settled on 7th Aug as enough time after my course, and tying in with available flights (which aren't every day)

We originally wanted the first Friday in September but our venue couldn't do it, so we went for the following week.

Our venue charge the same for Fridays as Saturdays and we wanted the whole weekend to have the wedding and then relax before going on honeymoon on the following Tuesday.

We got engaged yeeears ago just before my 30th birthday, so I told OH I wanted to get married before my 40th!

That's late June 2013, and he wanted it to be after football season finished - so we were left with about 3 weekends to choose from. We wanted it to be a Friday so we could spend the whole weekend with our guests, and I liked the sound of 31 May, so that's what we booked.

We wanted early Sept, but the venue we wanted only had the Sat of August bank holiday free so we took it. It was weird, the photographer and flower lady were both fully booked apart from one Sat that year, and that Sat was the Aug bank holiday, so it worked out wonderfully. We were very lucky.

Our wedding was organised at relatively short notice. Oddly some friends of ours had a similarly short notice wedding the previous year, and they too ended up with the Sat of August bank holiday because it was the only date available. It seems an oddly unpopular/conveniently free date!

We're getting married on 11th May next year - we chose the date because it was my maternal grandmother's birthday and I was extremely close to her. Unfortunately she passed away just over 8yrs ago. I miss her so much, it's really hard knowing that she won't be there to see me marry the man of my dreams. So we thought getting married on her birthday would be a way of keeping her close Smiley smile

We got engaged in June and wanted to get married last year, but it would have just been too short of notice with my family being in the US.

We didn't want to get married this Spring or Summer because we wouldn't have been able to go abroad for a honeymoon. (Passports with the UK Border Agency, as my visa was up for renewal)

Not 100% sure that the passports will be back in time for our Sept 1st wedding, but I liked that it would be a holiday weekend in the States, and we didn't want an Autumn/Winter wedding.

We just went for a 'hot' month in between mine and OHs bdays that would give us enough time for a honeymoon before I go back to school in Sept! The venue only had the first Sunday of Aug available and we knew it had to be that venue, and I knew I didn't want to get married in 2013 and OH didn't want to wait til 2014.

We started going out 2 June 2005 and I always thought that would be a special day for us to marry.

In 2012 this date feel on a Saturday and hence our day of choice.
