how do i keep people occupied if it throws it down?

Hello all,

i've had a party planned for ages for my birthday - it was meant to be a bbq but forecasts so far seem to think it may well be tipping it down. lots of people are coming (well, enough, still quite a small do by comparison, i'd think less than 20 will actually show), but although space isn't the problem (more room inside than out) and cooking isn't (big cooker) i do find myself a bit nervous about what i'm going to do with all these people. normally the whole barbeque involves a certain amount of interest - is it alight? will it stay alight? has everyone had a go at prodding it? - which will now be sadly absent. i went to a eurovision party the other night which was really good. it started with the bbq, then eurovision, then everyone had a go on singstar on the ps2. gently structured and everyone was entertained.

i'm just trying to think of things i can provide for amusement. there will be food and drink aplenty, a mixture of different friends who i'm sure will get along... i don't have a ps2 but we have a wii and xbox360 - could offer wii fit or wii sports or something, gta4, but could see all this getting a bit sad if it turns into a computer games fest.

so any ideas would be gratefully received. i could let them snuggle my house rabbits but i wouldn't want the buns to be stressed by an excess of random people. living room and dining room are about the same size so i could put something in one to attract people in there....

I really wouldn't worry- people will be there to socialise and will do so without you having to organise anything. Definitely don't get your computer games out- I can't imagine anything killing conversation more.

I agree - and the weather will do as a conversation-starter in the absence of the bbq ?

    like it. ?

thanks - i had a feeling that people normally managed to speak to each other all evening with only food and drink to keep them amused, but having been recently impressed by the neat format of the eurovision thing i thought perhaps i ought to be better prepared. will let them all wander around the house, we moved recently and most people haven't seen it, and half of the guests are estate agents so between that and the tequila it should keep them occupied ?
