How do you decide on a venue?

Snowberry, 13 June, 2011 at 18:25 Posted on Planning 0 1

I have seen 3 venues so far, one I definately didnt like but I am not sure about the other 2. I just dont know how to make my mind up and whether to just choose or keep searching. Problem is we are on a tight budget and I want somewhere with exclusive use and a 3 course wedding breakfast so I am quite limited.

The 2 I like are; Norwood Park in Southwell and The Old Vicarage in Elkesley. Elkesley is based on a marquee in the grounds, you can choose your own food, drinks, entertainment etc and are basically free to have what ever you want. Norwood Park is a stately home where the ceremony room is much nicer than the Old Vicarage and the reception is in a stable type room which goes out onto an enclosed courtyard.

I really like both and can't make my mind up between them! Any advice on how to make a decision?

    Hmmmm....

Accommodation/nearby accommodation (is it affordable...some hotels charge HUGE prices for their rooms, as they know wedding guests are a bit of a captive audience)

Does either one give you anything free - such as bridal suite for oyu to get ready in, honeymoon suite (a bridal suite could mean you could save A LOT on transport as you won't really need a fancy car if you are getting there 3 hours early - espesh if you're on a budget)

Does either have considerably better photo opps

Does your partner prefer either one

Is either one closer to you/your guests

Is either one easier to get to (Although I ignored this...ours is a bugger to find)

    Is either one cheaper

Does either one offer a good off peak deal (does snowberry mean you want to get married in Winter? November is usually one of the cheapest months)

Do you have any personal experience or do any close friends/relatives have any personal experience of either venue that might sway you

I can't think of anything else really....try and imagine you have chosen one......and then the other, whichever one you feel most pleased with/disappointed you missed out on is your venue I guess!

I want a July/Aug wedding but are going to have it mid week to cut costs. Snowberry is the name I use on all forums- its the name of two of my rabbits combined!

Accomodation wise Norwood is better as it has rooms there whereas Elkesley doesnt, and it has more hotels near by.

Both work out roughly the same costs and both are as easy to get too. They are very similar places except one is in a marquee which I am still trying to make my mind up about!
