How do you think your H2B will want to see you on your wedding day?

Fleur10, 28 January, 2011 at 21:55 Posted on Planning 0 33

A friend of mine recently went to a wedding where the bride had had such a radical makeover that the groom commented afterwards he was a bit taken aback when she walked in the room, mainly because he had never seen her looking like that before. It got me thinking, how many grooms actually think that their bride does not look like the person they asked to marry them!

H2B and I know eachother's likes and dislikes very well, he pretty much knows that even though I will want to look and feel lovely on our big day I wont be looking like someone he has never seen before, I just want to be me, the girl he fell in love with. So, the question is, for those that are keeping it all secret, how do you think your H2B will want to see you on your wedding day and do you think he will love what you have chosen?

I know my OH would like me to go blonde again (my hair changes colour quite a lot!) But I'm not keen because I'm worried that I'll just all blend together in the photos.

He's also said that he would prefer it if I don't wear loads of make-up as he thinks I look better without it (aw, bless). I'll probably be wearing more than he'll ever know - it can take a lot to produce that 'natural' look!

Now, I have this with my spex. I wear spex all the time, I was wearing them when he met me and fell in love with me, so I'll be wearing them on our wedding day, but the amount of people who assume I'll be getting contacts!

I think he will be expecting something a bit quirky from me, but I'll make sure I look like his Kirsty.

My OH really doesnt mind, he loves me for who i am....alot of the time he doesnt see me wearing makeup so obviously that will be different on the day....

I asked him how he thought i'd look and what kind of dress i'd be wearing and he knows i love bling so he just said anything with sparkles, a massive dress, big tiara.....i think he'll be very suprised! he's sooo wrong! hehe i made him think he'd guessed right! and he said "your sooo predictable!"

    teeeeheeee....

    Hee hee, sounds familiar.

Tbh, I think mine was convinced I was going to go for a red or burgundy dress (I was sorely tempted, but wussed out) so think he'll be pleased I've gone with something a little more traditional. I'm not having a veil though, and will probably be wearing fairly minimal make-up as I rarely wear it on a day-to-day basis.

Ha ha, so he's going to be surprised then! What is your dress like? Before I started trying dresses I asked OH if there was anything in particular he really didn't like - he said he couldn't think of anything (very helpful!), but then said probably not anything too massive and princessy - although I think he probably already knew the chances of me getting something like that were slim to non-existant.

In a way I want to look a bit different, because a lot of the time when I look at wedding photos (usually being nosey on facebook lol) the bride just looks exactly the same, same make up, often same hair almost, just different dress. Now, I never ever wear any make up and always have my hair tied back completely - can't be bothered with the fuss of getting ready - and so when I get married I'm going to be fully made up with some kind of amazing hair style. I want to look completely fabulous on my wedding photos and not just like I do on every other photo of me. I'll still look like me but a much more presentable version lol TBH my OH will probably be so surprised that I'm not wearing a hoodie and jeans that he won't realise I've even got any make up on lol

For SIL2B's wedding last year I had full make up and when I looked in the mirror I thought I looked like a drag queen because I'm just not used to wearing it, but so many people have commented on how nice I looked in the photos so I'm going to aim for the drag queen look again I think, it seems to suit me ?

I know how my H2b would like to see me, and I am trying as much as I can to not do too much against that. Eg: He doesn't mind how much make up I wear, as long as it is discrete and I don't look orange.

That said, I am not going to make myself uncomfortable to please him.

He isn't a fan of waxing, as he once saw what my poor skin looks like after a bikini wax - but I will certainly be having that done for example.

I was considering curls in my hair, which I've never had before, but I don't want to look too unlike me - my hair is always down and straight, so I have started wearing my hair up, knowing it will be up on the wedding day and wanting him to realise it's me - I look so much older with my hair up!

OH is used to seeing me one of three ways:

    1. At home with no makeup, scruffy hair and PJ bottoms

    2. In work, with a small amount of makeup and just a ponytail

    3. Glammed up to go out. I wear a fair bit of makeup for going out.

I will definitely be number 3 on the wedding day, but I don't think any amount of makeup would shock him!

Before even looking at dresses, I asked him what he thought I would choose, and he said "something plain from BHS". I thought I'd go for somethign with more bling, but in the end, I've chosen something quite plain.

@ Trickers - am I right in saying you do all of that regularly though?

My H2b wouldn't know what on earth was going on if I was fake tanned - my skin is pale-ish and my dress is white so it would be very shocking. Haha. That said I might try some gradual moisturiser during the summer.

He wouldn't notice fake eyelashes immediately, but he would notice fake nails - he loves them, I refused to wear em, and wont be on our wedding day - it's taken me a few years to get nice nails back after wearing them before!

    As I am.

He hates fake tan, so I wont be orange (And never have been, I'm very pale).

He doesn't like caked on make up and I don't wear much anyway.

I'll be having my hair 'done' though which I don't usually.. It's always just straight and down.

That's interesting - but as you said it hardly made you a different person, just made you feel good? I bet your hooked on the eyelash extensions now though? That's why I am putting them off - I will keep wanting them after the wedding!

I am very pale and will definitely be getting a fake tan - had one when I was a bridesmaid last year and it was only a very pale brown, just made me look a bit healthier and cut down on the 'corned beef' leg look when it got chilly lol purple splotchy legs aren't the best for the official photos ?

He has said a few things when we've watched Four Weddings or whatever about things he doesn't like for example those little hats with a veil attached (not my style in a million years anyway!). But anyway, his main stipulation is that he wants to see me smiling. i get so emotional and cry when I am happy and he has asked me not to! Not the best look when you are all snotty with tears streaming down your cheeks hey!?

Well I am planning to look like myself - but on a really really good day! I think thats what my OH will be expecting.....

Im not changing my hair style / colour - I will be 'naturally' fake tanned (ie not orange) as I am most wkends - i will have the french gel nails I usually get done for special occassions - I will have nice jewellery as again I do for special occassions - I will have make up on including eye liner - as I do most wkends ...etc

I am trying to lose 2 stone 10lb in total so have another 11lb to lose - this should make me a comfortable size 12 which I really do plan on keeping off (fingers crossed).

I really hope he loves what he'll see coming down the aisle!

Right.... I am persuaded - I was so dead against fake tan but just re-looked at my dress pics and with it being white, perhaps I could do with a bit of brightening.!

I'd prefer a real post holiday glow - but that's soo not going to happen.

Try wearing something of a similar colour to your wedding dress after your tan trial too. I saw a bride with all fake tan rubbed off on her dress, looked terrible. I know they are bad for you, but think I will have a few sunbeds on the run up to the wedding.

Haha, yep that's what I'm aiming for!

The girl my H2B fell in love with (i.e. me) was 17, skinny and had amazing skin! If I could look like that again that'd be great please! The weight has crept up since then, although only by about a stone or so, and I am trying to lose at least some of it as I don't want to look back at the photos/memories of the day and think, "I could have tried a bit harder" iyswim. My H2B has seen me in all kinds of hairstyles and all kinds of make-up so he'll know it's me whatever style I end up going for.

This has really made me think. I was planning on having an up-do because my hair's thick and heavy and curls drop out. But OH prefers me with my hair down...

I love curling my (very straight) hair and do so for special occasions.

My h2b is mad, he says he likes my hair best when it is all scruffy and loose and just hangs there. I don't, it can look like rat's tails!

I will deffo be going for a nice styled do, I am not going to let it look straggly! I am wearing a tea-length dress so he willbe able to see my legs (he hates full length dresses for some reason).

Maybe he's trying to make you look scruffy on the day to make him look better ?

I'm having my hair curled - which OH loves but I'm rubbish at doing it myself so usually don't bother.

I'm also having fake tan (which I have on most of the time anyway) and eyelash extensions (so I don't need to worry about eye make-up smearing, running, etc). I'm considering gel extensions (not really long ones but just a tiny bit of natural-looking length) because I have to keep my nails very short for work and they are always split and damaged, so it would be nice to have pretty, neat looking nails for the wedding day and the honeymoon. If I don't have nail extensions then I will have a gel overlay on my natural nails to make them smoother and stronger.

I have to say though, I think you would have to be a pretty dense guy if you could no longer recognise your long-term girlfriend just because she had different hair and make-up. I can imagine that you would have to have a lot of surgery before you would be unrecognisable to someone you knew well enough to marry.

I dont think it was the fact he didnt recognise her, she just looked so different to how he had ever seen her that he said he looked twice lol ?
