How do you when you've found the right dress??

thirteentreasures, 7 September, 2009 at 15:37 Posted on Planning 0 17

I think i've found a dress but i'm not sure. I've tried on loads and nothing makes me feel 100%, but I don't think there's anything that will. Unfortunately they wouldn't let me take a photo of it.

Any thoughts anyone?

I'm the same as you, and it's so frustrating. I must have tried on at least 30 dresses! I've decided I'm going to wait a bit longer, maybe around xmas time when know I have to choose a dress by new year for fittings etc.

Maybe you will feel better about the dress with all the accessories.

I think i'm just going to have to accept the fact that I'm never going to get that 'feeling' the lucky ppl talk about. all the dresses are nice, I'll just have to choose the best one.

    Good luck x

I've only got 5 weeks to go though!!

Before you freak out, I'm hiring or buying off the peg, and i'm wearing an evening dress.

I did find a green ball dress I absolutely love but it's strapless and I feel very self-conscious in it. also the top of the bodice is completely straight, and that shape isn't great on me. it has a matching wrap but it doesn't work well, it's the kind that slithers about or just looks plonked. my mum saw it and said the bodice shape was not that flatterining though it was a fab dress. on sat i found another one in teal organza which is a better shape and has a better wrap but it's much plainer and I just don't know if I feel special enough in it. unfortunately my mum couldn't come as she's not v.well and it was a bit of a distance. I don't really have any girlie mates to drag along with me.

When i went dress shopping i was convinced that i wasn't going to get the "one" moment. For me, as soon as i put the dress on, not only (in my eyes) did i look fantastic, but i felt fantastic in the dress. As soon as my mum and 2 older sisters saw the dress, they all started crying and saying WOW!!

Now, i cannot stop thinking about it. Went into the bridal shop on Saturday and just managed to catch a glace of my dress from the corner of my eye, and i got all giddy and excited!!

I seriously thought that i would end up with a dress that ticked the right boxes but never got that "one" feeling from. I would read on here about people filling up and having the moment, and i have to admit, i did feel jealous and started questioning it. But then it happened.

Agree with Novicebride, go and have some fun. It doesn't matter if you try 5 or 500 hundred dresses on, you will find the one for YOU.

Good luck and keep us informed xxxxx

I didnt get that 'the one' feeling but felt much better after I put the accessories on and a second look at it a few days later. In the midst of planning my wedding though I have come to realise that my dress is just not a big a priority to me compared to other parts e.g. entertainment for guests.

I never got that feeling that it was The One, nor did i 'just know'. i found two dresses that were gorgeous, suited me, looked lovely, so it was more of a logical decision - one dress was £600 over budget.

i disagree that you just 'know', or that you know cos everyone around you bursts into tears. we all just agreed that the one i chose was the one that looked nicest.

I think the fact that your not sure is telling you it's not the right dress! You need to be happy with what you choose!

I put a deposit on a dress that fitted my budget not me and did nothing but worry and feel deflated everytime I thought of it! I went back to the shop Friday just gone and tried on some more styles and found my dress and became a blubbering mess (never ever thought I would cry at a dress but did!) I think you just know when you have it on you should feel special that is the whole point!

Have you tried many other dress shops?? have a good look around and see what happens, Really hope you find it!

Thanks all. I'm particularly interested that some of you didn't have a 'it's the one!' moment as I really don't think that's going to happen to me. Unfortunately I don't really have people to go shopping with and I'm on a very tight budget. It was better when my mum came but she can't come and see my latest find. It's from a hire shop so it's not like I can get it back home and try it with accessories, i just won't see it again till a couple of days before i wear it. and the place is over an hour away and is by appointment, so can't just pop in for another look. The woman was getting a bit impatient with me towards the end and I think that coloured how I feel a bit. Also there wasn't much choice in my size which is a problem i'm having generally. i'm a 14-16, but some of these places just have racks and racks of pretty dresses in a size 10 and then not much if you are any bigger. it makes me feel like an enormous heiffer which is really the last thing I need! (The Dress Lounge was the worst for that, see other post about that!!).

I'm running out of time though and I also want to make my jewellery so I need to know what I'm wearing. plus I'd rather not clash with the venue decorations!

    Hiya,

Im feeling pressured also about finding 'the one', people are asking me if I have found it yet and I say that how do you know if its 'the one', surely you would need to try on all the dresses in the world, it could take years!!!!

My view is unless you know exactly what you are looking for, you just have to go with which one you like the best and feel the most special in.

Look in the mirror, picture yourself in it on the day, and ask yourself do you feel special....?

    Good luck

I was convinced that I would not have an "it's the one" moment as I find clothes shopping a bit of a let down at the best of times. However, when I tried on the dress I've chosen I wanted to walk down the isle there and then, not a good idea when the back is being pinned in place with industrial bulldog clips as it's two sizes too big, and also burst into tears!

It's also nothing like the slinky little undrestated number I had in mind!!

I wouldn't say I had a 'this is the one' moment either. I didn't try on that many dresses (as here in New Zealand you have to pay to try them on! ?) Out of the ones I saw / tried on I realized that I kept going back to one particular one and looking for ones similar to this so I guessed that was obviously the one to go for. There certainly were no teary moments or 'yes this is it' moments either. Infact I was never 100% sure but looking back it was a beautiful dress and did suit me.

If the teal dress looks lovely on you, you feel comfortable in it and it is in your budget then go for it. On the day once you are all dressed up etc you will feel special anyway, no matter what you are wearing.

Thanks guys. I did some more dress shopping yesterday and nothing was as nice as the teal one from Saturday. Also I tried on some strapless dresses and I really do not like myself in them, so that's also made me more confident that the teal one (which has off the shoulder straps) is the way to go. It is plainer than I'd have liked but means I can go to town with the accessories..heh heh!
