How do you write your 8?

Akrigg, 6 December, 2013 at 13:06 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

Could you write the number 8 on a piece of paper and take a pic of it to show me?

Had a discussion with H2B about it. He says that everyone in the UK writes their 8 in the same way. (I'm Dutch)

Thank you ?

Bit random. I wont take a picture, but I do the "circle of eight". i.e. I start at the top, go down in an S shape, then back up crossing through the middle and round to join at the top.

I start in the middle and work anti clockwise so up to the left round and down to the right, pen doesn't leave the paper.

Make an S and do not wait, when it's joined you have an 8. That's the formation rhyme that we teach the kids at school.

Is this a clockwise .v. anticlockwise/one continuous .v. two circles issue?

I do the same as Panj. Start at top right, make an S, then a practically straight line back to top right.

Same as Panj but I start more centrally and so don't get the little finishing flick.

    Wow! Lots of replies.

Our discussion was: Everyone writes the 8 the same in the UK and that is: 2 ''circles'' of the same size. He couldn't read my 8 and i got defensive because to me it's a normal 8.

You proved Mr Akrigg wrong with those pictures because the 2 ''circles'' are not the same size and sometimes not even connected. ?

    Same as in Holland whahahaha

I hadnt thought about how different countries may write differently but now I think of it I seem to remember something like all French students are taught to write in a certain style.
