how does this sound?

fiona84, 20 August, 2008 at 12:59 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hi all

having a bit of a debate with my mum over whether or not to have a gift list. Personally i don't like them or believe that asking for money is a good option either but as we've been together for many years and lived together for most of the time we don't need anything. We (h2b and i) thought that if people wanted to give us something they could give us dollars (honeymoon in Florida) and we could buy something that we both liked/needed that would also reminds of how fab a day we've had kind of thing.

Does that sound cheeky too?

Thanks in advance

I think that is perfectly fine - it is your day and if that is what you want then I am sure ppl will be happy to get you that.

From the sounds of it lots of ppl asking for money towards Honeymoon as a wedding present.

To be quite honest people expect there to be a gift list...I know I do. So if you want money towards your honey moon, why not set up a GL with trailfinders or a company like that.

    Or

"We have decided not to have a gift list, but should you wish to (purchase a gift) vouchers or money would be a lovely gesture"

Therefore whether you get something or not it doen's matter, you've left it up to your guests to decide

    Hi Fiona

We are in exactly the same postition as you been living together for 3 years and do not really need anything - let alone hate asking for things!! So we decided not to put a gift list in our invites but are doing this:

We hope you will come and celebrate with us,

But we don’t want you to make any fuss!

As our day would be complete with you as our guest,

We can only think of one request!

We are jetting of to the Maldives – if you would like to give to our honeymoon fund or treat us to a massage or bubbly please contact the following

I think that this is fine. In fact we too are honeymooning in Florida and have done pretty much the same type of thing. This is what i wrote in the info sheets that i sent out with the Invitations:

"As you are aware my and H have lived together now for a while and so have amassed pretty much all the essentials for the home. However if you would like to give us a gift, then vouchers for Argos or money towards our forthcoming honeymoon to Florida to pay for theme park tickets would be very much appreciated."

Our friends and family were fine with that, and in fact we have had almost £2000 in money from our wedding guests, so not only has it paid for the theme park tickets but also for most of the honeymoon which is fantastic. We never believed people would be so generous. Only 6 weeks until we go now and i can't wait.

If you don't like asking for money then why are you asking for money in the form of dollars? Makes no difference that your asking for dollars in my opinion and I don't understand why something bought in Florida would remind you of your wedding day.

People will probably give you money if you don't ask anyway and I think asking for dollars is harder than a gift list as people then need to physically go to a shop and each person pay commission to change money.

    Anyway just my opinion

No sorry not feelin it. we might just leave it and if people ask then just say something along the lines of if you would like to give us something then vouchers for .... or something.

We thought about buying something in florida as there will be alot more choice there than some places round here. not to remind of our honeymoon

Oh i know money poems is a big no no on here ?.

Weve not seen anything as yet. And our honeymoon and attraction tickets are all being paid for as a wedding present from his mum and dad.
