How early have you bought your dresses?

Jayla, 14 March, 2014 at 18:15 Posted on Planning 0 30

I get married May 2015 (I have no idea how I'm going to wait that long!). I've found gorgeous bridesmaid dresses that fit and that they love, but my mum is a bit worried that I will find something I like more in the next 13 months. I feel like I've looked at enough over the years to know that these are the 'ones'! When did you buy yours and did you worry about changing your mind? This could be relevant to wedding dresses too (off to look at some next week!).

I also get married in May 2015 and I purchased my wedding dress in Dec 2013! I would do that same with my bridesmaid dresses but one of my bridesmaid (my sister) doesn't come back from Australia until November 2014!

I bought mine 16 months before the wedding - I thought it was a bit early but I still love it nearly a year later.

So glad you've put this! I'm getting married in April 2015 and not even started looking for my wedding dress yet, but think I have found the ideal bridesmaid dresses. I was worried I'm gonna be doing it all in the wrong order! Lol

Question is, am I brave enough to wait and see if they would go into sale, as they are new season. :/

    xx

Ooh, I feel a bit better now! They are a classic shape and fit all shapes / sizes. Most important for me is that my bridesmaids love them.

Bopsie - my mum also wondered why I didn't wait for the sale, but seeing as the 6 and 8 are already out of stock I didn't want to chance it!

    Hooray! I'm normal! ?

we've been engaged since 2009 so although I've only just started seriously planning, I've seen enough dresses to know what I like!

If you like the dresses enough i'd go for it and buy them, the only thing is being careful none of your BM's gain / lose enough weight that they wouldn't fit Smiley smile

I get married in just less than 6 months and I only ordered mine around 2 weeks ago! Should arrive in July, so that leaves me 4 weeks for alterations

These wedding posts have made me feel so much better! I'm gettin married May 2015 and have convinced myself that I would get laughed out of the bridal shops when I tell them I'm not getting married for another year and a bit! I have also started looking at bridesmaids dresses, but I too don't have a bridesmaid returning to the uk until Christmas time so I think I'm going to have to wait on those!

I wouldnt worry so much about finding something you like more. What would worry me is there is plenty of time for them to lose weight, gain weight, fall pregnant etc. I am assuming they are all adults. For children and teens leave it as late as possible.

Just ordered my dream dress today and I'm not getting married until July 2015. It takes 8 months to come in and then I'll need alterations so think I've timed it well really. Bridal shops don't care when you're getting married if they're getting your business! Xx

The dresses are such that unless you lost a LOT of weight, which none of them need to do, they will be fine. It is very unlikely for various reasons that they will be pregnant. Leaving the flower girls until nearer the time.

I bought my wedding dress 15 months in advance and my bridesmaids dresses were bought 12 months before. I have seen a couple of dresses since then and thought "ooh that's nice" but I'm still happy with my choice. And when I buy magazines etc...I just skip past all the dress pages (sometimes 90! Before you get any actual editorial) and focus on the rest of my planning. If you see what you like..get it.

Seems like I'm right on time then! I don't think it would feel as bad if I had 12 months to go, but over a year seems forever! I've no doubt it'll fly by though.

If you have found your perfect BM dresses get them - if you do find something else later you can always sell them and if you don't then it's one less thing to worry about.

ETA - my dress was the first wedding related purchase I made! Got it on 3rd Jan and didn't set the date until the 31st Smiley winking I knew it would take a while to find the right one!

I don't think you're too early at all - I'd just go for it. We get married in just over 3 months and haven't even bought my MOHs dress yet (no bridesmaids) but we did at least go shopping to try some on yesterday. My wedding dress was ordered in about October last year but I started looking in about February/March I think!

We are getting married July 2016 and I ordered my dress (and paid the deposit) in January this year, it wont arrive until September. I love my dress, i've seen some other lovely dresses, but everyone I've seen since I just think "it's not as nice as mine" te he he. I think as long as you tend to stay the same size it shouldn't matter how far in advance you get your dress.

I have a wedding dress already arrived in my store room for a wedding in 2016!

The only thing with getting your bridesmaids dresses first is are you 100% absolutely set on your colour scheme. Ive had brides come into the shop looking for the standard ivory gown only to be confronted with blush, pale pink, shell pink, rum pink, ruby, oyster, alabaster, champagne, cappucino, aubergine, tea rose and french beige! The vast majority of these colours are quite subtle but if you fall in love with a very delicate pink dress but have gone for a pink bridesmaids theme you may clash very badly!

Ive probably sold 10% of my 180 dresses in a colour, the vast majority to brides who swore they HAD to have ivory....

I get married in 7 weeks (EEEK!!!!) and I bought my dress last week. If I'd had longer I might have had a larger budget and shopped around more, but the dress isn't all that important to me, so maybe not.

Getting married 5 September 2014, haven't bought my dress yet as I am determined to lose a few more pounds first! It is being handmade and will take 3 weeks so not panicking yet but I must order it in plenty of time just in case I hate it and need a plan B!

Ordered mine in November 2012 for 6th September 2014. It arrived to the shop August 2013. If I'd have waited until last year the fittings would have been rushed. It's just been a bit of a battle trying to maintain my weight to make sure it still fits!

Were getting married July 2015, i've looked at a few dresses online and in a couple of magazines but not with any venom, was thinking of leaving shopping until autumn/early winter this year - the last thing I want is to choose one now and then find another I like even more a few months down the line! lol

I bought my wedding dress in October last year, and bridesmaids' dresses a few weeks later. So 14/13 months in advance.

But I had a "the One" moment with both, so I just had to do it - none of us needs to change shape drastically, and we all looked good, so it was sort of a no brainer to tick off two of the big items and give myself plenty of time to do all the rest of the planning. But I do tend to like to be early, and do things well in advance.
